hA nyone on these boards mentioned the band MAN MAN yet?
I just saw them poen for modest mouse last night, and honestly they had more enthusiasm then modest mouse. all there songs jam for long and they like to jump around and sing in high pitches sometimes.
In a nutshell their music sounds like a carnival on shrooms with a great depression jazz sound to it

i'll be seeing them with Modest Mouse on Sunday. Hopefully MM will break out Dramamine and Breakthrough... i saw that they did them sequentially for an encore a few nights back, but other nights they play neither... I'm praying to god... those are two of my favorite songs.
Sort of Captain Beefheartish. They're a great live act, but seeing them live sort of made me realize I was listening to them more because I'll probably never get to see Tom Waits or Captain Beefheart live. Fun show though...
"Music has always been a matter of energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio." -Hunter S. Thompson

I don't see why Modest Mouse isn't on the lineup this year. Their new cd came out in march and it has a very Bonnaroo feel to it............. To me it does anyway. Plus they would be such a great late night performance, I mean come on, listening to Cowboy Dan at 3 in the morning? what can get any better?
Some of my friends went to go see Modest Mouse yesterday in Atlanta. Said Modest Mouse was really good, they just had an AWEFUL set list. I didn't go, because I know I'd leave angry, seeing as though the new Modest Mouse album is a huge disappointment.
They said Man Man was way better than the band they opened for... Hm, I guess I'll check it out.
It's simply not the band I remember from before the last two albums. I understand that bands change, but this album and the last have very little on it that remind me why I love this band. I've already said all this before, so I'm gonna avoid going into a little debate. If you like the album though, good for you, it seems like they're gonna be making music like this for a while, now. It's just not my cup of tea. Peace.
Edit: Just checked out some Man Man, and I gotta say it's pretty impressive. I need more time to sit on it, but so far looks like a good discovery!

werd up, I know exactly what you mean. But if they ever happen to come around again i would check them out because even there new songs are very energetic and have a full sound to them that you wont hear at any other show.
That's what my friend Chris (also roo goer) said. He doesn't really think the new albums as big a disappointment as I do, but he even said that the new songs were much better live. I would love to see them at Roo though, no way I'd pass that up.
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.

I just saw MM and MM (modest mouse and man man! hey! ba dump, chiiing)
Anyway, Modest Mouse's setlist was atrocious, they only played one song for the encore, the set was incredibly short, no Dramamine, no Breakthrough, no Cowboy Dan, not even a little Bury Me With It. They did play Trailer Trash and Doin' the Cockroach, but the sound was atrocious and they just sounded like feedback fests. "Tiny Cities Made of Ashes" was really freaking crunk when it got to the "DOES ANYBODY KNOW A WAY!" part. "Spitting Venom" was great live. Isaac saw some people with a banner that said "Night On The Sun" to which he responded: "Uh... to all you guys holding up the Night On The Sun Banner... I'm gonna go ahead and say, so I won't look like an a$$h0le.. at this point the band doesn't even know how to play it, sorry" That pretty much sums the concert up. Its still f**king modest mouse, isaac brock is a JOY to watch perform, but the setlist was very lackluster.
Man Man was incredible. The singer was throwing water into the crowd, jammin on the piano, hitting drums, jumping off his stool, and the whole band was incredibly tight, just groovin. The whole place was bumpin before too long. I wish they could have played a bit more.
Agree with some of the sentiment on the new Modest Mouse, as a long time fan, I think it is absolute trash. Complete trash. But whatever, that's one man's opinion, which doesn't go very far...

i was at this show as well and modest mouse's set list wasn't that great. they left out so many songs, it wasn't even funny. good show for the songs they did play though.
man man is ape nuts! i've never seen anything like that. all 6 of them were standing on top of each other almost. they probably played 56 different instruments between them as well. i would definitely have to catch man man if they came to bonnaroo.

I saw them last night in Austin, they are freaking incredible! They play so close together and the amount of energy between them are crazy. Such eclectic music, perfect for Bonnaroo.
