So i'm new to bonnaroo this year. For those of you who have already been to bonnaroo or seen some of the bands performing, which bands would you make your first reccomendations to see live? I've listened to sts9 for several years now but have never seen them live, so that is what i am most excited about. from what ive heard their live show is out of this world. and yes ive seen tool's new live show. but what bands/artists should i be sure not to miss?
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
Really, you can't go wrong with whoever you pick. All the bands are really good this year. I think I'm probably just going to stay at whatever tent or stage I'm going to for preheadliner so I'll probably be in whatever tent, the Black Keys are playing at 5, all day on Friday. Oh and don't be surprised if Tortoise is a late night set, we are a little short for late night shows on Friday and Tortoise and Hot Chip look like a good fit, especially after Tool.

This just in: a web reviewer whose site i read (http://www.geocities.com/bradreviews) is saying that Hot Chip was off the hook, and that I should trust him and see them at all costs.

Do not miss String Cheese Incident. They WILL put on the best show of Bonnaroo 2007. At least that's my honest opinion. It's also heavily rumored that they'll be doing a late night double-header w/ STS9 in which case there'll hopefully be some collaboration.
Ok since I said earlier any band is probably a good bet, I'll put down the ones I really would recommend
Don't miss STS9 cause if you see something else, theres your chance to see String Cheese possibly. The Black Keys Tortoise The Roots Ween the Flaming Lips Ornette Coleman and Wilco
Obviously, don't miss the headliners
If you want to catch String Cheese but also want to catch the Roots and the Black Keys, I'd say its worth the gamble missing String Cheese then going to see STS9 and see if it is a double header. That's what I'm doing.
ZIGGY MARLEY Gogol Bordello The Police Wolfmother DJ Shadow Aesop Rock Lily Allen Rodrigo y Gabriela The Nightwatchman Sasha and Digweed Girl Talk The Hold Steady Ben Harper The Roots The White Stripes
I would say, try everything in your power not to miss Gov't Mule. The hype right now is just out of this world, you know they're gonna do something truly special.
Don't miss White Stripes, bound to be one for the ages, what with the new album and such, and not having played in years.
Don't miss Tool, unless you really hate them. Even if you're neutral, come on by. I mean, wtf else is happening?!? I ASSURE you of something classic...
Tortoise is one show that I personally will not miss. I cannot miss this show, no matter who is playing in opposition. Except for maybe....
....Ornette Coleman. No reason he should be passed up, as your chances of seeing a Jazz legend get slighter if you miss him.
STS9 is disgusting live and possibly with the String Cheese Incident who will be ending things soon, That is a CANNOT MISS Show, and I'll be in the front row. (If they collaborate for a few, my face will melt!) ( 2 of 10 favorite bands touring easily )
Other Must Sees: The Police (how many chances will u get ever) Flaming Lips (unreal live show) Sasha & Digweed (late late night sunrise show) Galactic (ain't nothing but a funky good time) Bob Weir & Ratdog (gotta get the dead fix) The WMD's (K-Dub, Moseley, Droll, Sipe) (sick!) Gov't Mule (something special for roo in the cards) Those are my big must sees, other's I will almost definitely see...
Old Crow Medicine Show Girl Talk (CRAZY) The Slip Tortoise Tool The Roots Ziggy Marley
Still the thing about Bonnaroo is u always have a gameplan and it rarely gets followed to a tee. You will stop and see something you didn't think you'd check out cause there's a funky sound tickling the ears. Get it to 10 or so u can;'t miss and then explore it all my friend. u can trust me, I have been every year and will be there every year. Enjoy yourself newbie!
I think Girl Talk is crazy, and since he did that thing at Coachella where he spun a bunch of Coachella artists together, I think he'll do the same at Bonnaroo (The Police vs. Hot Chip?, Tool vs. Lily Allen?). However, I don't see the festival atmosphere being the ideal for Gregg to work his magic; rather I see him as a small club kind of artist (though that may be personal preference).
There are a few sets that I am looking to be as epic as MMJ last year: STS9, SCI, and Kings of Leon.
