ZIGGY MARLEY HAS AGREED TO HAVE A PRIVATE INTERVIEW WITH ME AT BONNAROO!!!
I just got an e-mail back from TuffGong saying that they spoke to him today, and he'd like to speak with me. We're going to set up plans as things get closer to Roo time.
Holy hell, this keeps getting better and better each day!! Now, I'm still awaiting responses from:
- Wolfmother - ?uestlove (The Roots) - Gogol Bordello - Lily Allen
I still have to contact a few more artists. Maybe I'll try to get an interview with Maynard, Sasha/Digweed, DJ Shadow, and Aesop. Anyone have any suggestions of who else I should interview? I'm also looking for questions to ask the musicians, so please, if you have ANY suggestions, please let me know. Ya might as well post your questions, so I can take note, and ask them when I get the opportunity.
I'm absolutely blown away that he's agreed, and honored at the same time. The Marley family is the absolute embodiment of what I believe music should be. I've been a huge fan of his for a long time. Sorry that I'm rambling, but it's not everyday that someone gets to meet musical royalty.
Chandler.. I really don't know too much about Tool.. That's why they weren't exactly on the top of my list. I'm sure Bob Weir will be at the press conferences, I could def use some questions to ask him. I may drop his management an email tomorrow. Ziggy was #1 on my list to get an interview with. I'm so pumped!!

well, maynard is generally considered to be one of the least interviewable artists out there. He'll almost never give interviews, nomatter who you are....and when he does, he's usually a sarcastic, arrogant ass.

dude holy sh**, maynard? ya man, good luck w/ that one. i could probably count on one hand the number of interviews he's done since 10,000 days. but if you pull it off man, you have my respect.
I'm tempted to try.. even if I bump into him backstage, but honestly, I don't know much about him or Tool. Wouldn't be a very prudent decision to interview someone I know nothing about. BTW, I just dropped Tom Morello's people an email.
dude ask the lips if they will interview! wayne's really cool. i saw them on amazon and wayne delivered at war with with mystics to a fans house it was awesome!
Yeah, I'll drop Shadow's people an e-mail tomorrow. I'm too beat to do it now.
One thing about interviews... I know there's going to be a LOT of press conferences where we'll (press peeps) get to talk to the musicians. I've heard that they're pretty intimate gatherings, which will be nice. My original plan was to be extremely "fly by the seat of my pants," because I'm usually very spontaneous that way, but I'd like to line up a few key interviews. They'll make great material for my podcast and for articles that I'll be writing.
I'm really pumped about having a good bit of freedom to interview people, but I'm also really looking forward to meeting a ton of people around the grounds of Roo. I'll be armed with my field recorder mic, so be ready. I'll be taking a ton of pictures to put on TheMoeTrain.com, so you all might find yourselves on my site. Don't worry, I'll have plenty of business cards to give out, so you'll know where to find your pictures (I'll e-mail you the actual sized pic if you want it).

Keep me posted on the Tom status! BTW....how long did it take to hear back on your Press Creds? I am putting out some feelers....
I totally agree with what you said about Ziggy and the Marley family. I believe there is something special abut Ziggy. After all, his fathers last words, "Money Can't Buy Life" were told to Ziggy. I would be honored to meet him as well.
Bama... It took months. I honestly had totally forgotten about applying, until an e-mail showed up in my mailbox one day. I honestly was surprised to hear back from them at all... but it sure as hell was a very pleasant surprise!
I do a podcast (Moe Train's Tracks) that has 26,000+ listeners. My first goal at Roo is to get tons of material for the podcast. Also, I'll be doing some articles for Philly/DCStyleMag.com, JammedOnline.com, and possibly CollegeHumor.com (THAT material is going to be off the wall). I'm sure I'll be submitting feature articles to several other websites and publications. I'll probably get in touch with a few Reggae sites since I'll be talking to Ziggy.
It's cool as hell covering Bonnaroo, that's for sure, but I'm really looking forward to taking the whole scene in and really experiencing everything.
I'm freelancing for now... hopefully after this, I'll have something more steady. I applied for a press pass a few months ago. The podcast is what got me the gig.

Yeah, I was afraid of that....
Oh well, can't hurt to try Got a sponsor for a freelance job today, sent in the app....we'll throw it against the wall and see if it sticks....
HAHA! Thanks! Even if I don't get a pass, at least I'll get to write some stuff and get it published. The photo pass is what I would REALLY like to get....but my little digital will take some decent pix, enough for newsprint quality. Who knows, maybe I'll do a spread on Moe Train's Tracks and the podcast!
Ha... Cool! I'll def be around! From what I was told, the photo passes are given out in really short supply. I think they want to keep some "quality control" for what professional pics come out of Roo.
BTW, I'd like to do a plug for this site on my Pre-Bonnaroocast. (I'll have my new computer in a few days, so I can get started on it) I wish the URL was "inforoo.com"! It would make things much easier!
I think The Hold Steady is on the verge of something really big. I totally dig their album. GREAT storytelling and overall energy. Actually, I think I have some questions written up for them already. I haven't heard too much of Rodrigo y Gabriela yet, but I've heard them been described as "the second coming of Buena Vista Social Club." If you haven't heard BVSC, you NEED to listen. Talk about raw, traditional talent. Great stuff. The two guys from The Black Keys are really raw too... Crunchy, bluesy rock. Junior Brown is another artist I haven't heard much from, but man... What a musician!
There are a ton a great bands on the Broo bill. I'm def going to talk to as many artists as possible, but... ya gotta understand that I'm a "rocker." (I'm a punk/ska/reggae/hip hop-ish musician myself) I gravitate towards those types of bands. I'm not a big fan of country at all. I certainly respect what they do, and if I'm a bit tanked up, I would POSSIBLY break out some country line dancing, but that's about it. Most likely, I'll check out a few country/folk acts, but won't be reporting/writing about them. Gotta have some kind of knowledge about a band, or else it would be half-assed.
Rodrigo Y Gabriela are one of my "must sees"...I have their CD/DVD and it is absolutely killer! Kinda got a BVSC vibe, but much harder to pigeon-hole into a genre. Our Best Buy had them in the "Rock" section. Itunes pulls them in as "Jazz"....they aren't either....I absolutely HATE covers of "Stairway to Heaven"! Refused to even attempt to learn it on guitar when I started playing. Theirs is the ONLY version other than the original (which is one of my LEAST fave Zep songs) that I will listen to. And their cover of Orion is fantastic!
I'm listening to R y G right now on MySpace. Holy hell. They are amazing! MUCH better than I had remembered. They are now a must see in my book. I'm blown away by their talent.
