ok, so im a newbie. its my first year. in actuality, if i have a conflict... what is the possibility of being able to see more than one band in a time slot. how far are the stages.. this is based on the 5:30 - 8:00 slots.
can i see 2 bands?
The longest hike from a stage to a tent is only five, maybe ten, minutes or so.
If the sets are a total overlap, then you'll have to decide which to see first and judge half way through whether to leave and catch the other band or stay and enjoy the rest of the first one (I've done both). It can be accelerated by positioning yourself on teh side of the stage/tent nearest to the stage/tent that you'll be heading for. You won't get a great spot for the second act, but you can always see/hear something.
If it's a partial overlap the rules are the same, but you don't have to decide which to do first.
If it's an end:end then you can catch both only missing a fraction of one set.
Most things at Roo are very relaxed but the time schedule is adhered to very rigidly, sets are not allowed to run over and bands are not allowed to come on late. You can trust the schedule.

well here's where your strategy has to come in. if you plan to see more then 1 band in a time slot, you pretty much can't be up front for either band. if you are up front for the first band you want to see, you'll burn too much time moving through the crowd on the way to the other stage, and you're definitely not getting to the other band before they start unless you are hardly seeing any of the first band.
now, realistically i think when i was focused last year (key word ;D) i could get between what stage and the other tent (furthest 2 stages) in just about 10-12 minutes. by focused i mean you have to move when you decide to leave the first band...don't dawdle packing up blankets/other sh-t, don't get food/drinks on the way to the next stage, don't stop and stare at that crazy guy along the way, just put your head down and GO.
furthermore, you have to remember its going to be hot, and walking quickly through a crowd in the heat can be tricky and tiring which will slow you down...added to which during the 5:30-8pm slot when conflicts are worst, the sun will be setting and probably shining in your eyes, sunglasses or not, for some of the time.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

possible to see 2? yes, but don't f-ck around
I agree with xiphoid420 that you need to give yourself some time in between shows. 10-12 min is a fair estamate. In 2004 I was able to do 3 shows during the 5-8 slots, but it takes ninja like skills to weave in and out of the crowds. Well, not really, but you gotta hustle to pull it off.

You can easily get out of front row from every stage except the Main stage. Exit left and right from the tents and second stage, don't go straight through the crowd.
I can easily be front row from one show.....leave half way..and hear music on the way out. Get to the next stage....they are still playing... walk towards the front, enjoy the end of the show, and get in front for the next band...start over...and smile!!!

May the force be with you as well, then. I forsee a lot of scheduling conflicts for myself, some ninja/jedi skills will definately be needed.

dudes..!! thanks for all your advice. its really funny because im going to bonnaroo with none of my favorite bands playing. i thought i didnt have any "must sees" (aside from regina specktor) but SUDDENLY there are a ton of conflicts for me. and besides the conflicts i have, they conflict with bands my friends want to see. the funniest part is that i just went over this schedule with my friend.. and shes like,.. "you like them?" and im like .."I HEARD THEY ARE AWESOME!" so this is my reply for everything. apparently, i really need to listen to the bands who are all on and conflicting at once and see who outweighs who.
it does seem that the biggest are the white stripes / regina thing (im for regina.. but i want to hang with my friend who <3's stripes) and as previously mentioned the john butler trio and conflicts. <sigh>
good thing is .. i really dont WANT to be up close. just close enough to hear... and dance.
thanks for the suggestions!~!
and speaking of the sun in your eyes.. you reminded me.. that i need new sunglasses!!!
here is what i would do in a perfect world if this were the actual schedule:
Brazilian Girls T-Bone Burnett (whole set) James Blood Ulmer Hot Chip (whole set) Black Keys Manu Chao (whole set) The Roots Tool (whole set) String Cheese (whole set) DJ Shadow
Saturday:
Hot Tuna The Slip Railroad Earth Spoon Ziggy Marley The Hold Steady Ween (whole set) The Police (whole set)
Late night brings the most conflicts for me for this schedule!?! -game time decision
Sunday
Ornette Coleman (whole set) Junior Brown (whole set) Wilco Feist White Stripes (whole set) WSP (whole set)

what time of day does anyone think old crow medicine show will get? i think they started the day in a tent back in 2005...?
Heres my schedule if that is exactly how the lineup ends up:

Sunday:
Pete Yorn Ornette Coleman Wilco Ralph Stanley John Butler Trio Decemberists The White Stripes Regina Spektor Wolfmother Widespread Panic (maybe full?)
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Man...Friday day = no problems SCI and STS9 would be tough... Id catch both though. But Saturday... holy sh!t I might as well turn into a conflict!! F*CK!! ???
Probably not, but gtwrecked was putting them down for that time bracket just in general.
Yeah last year's schedule had Tom Petty down for a 3 hour slot too. Whether Tool fills up that time is to be determined, but I would bet that the schedule has them for around 3 hrs.
