Before the initial artist announcment Dylan was rumoured on a few sites to be playing June 17th. Then that was taken down. Dylan has released his summer tour schedule with a gap from the 16th to the 26th, its the only gap like it on his schedule. I found this interesting espescially since he will be in the area on the 16th.
I was dissapointed with his show in '04. Didn't help that he was criminally late taking the stage. I'd seen him three other times, from '99 to '01, back when he was still playing guitar at his shows, so it was odd to see him behind the piano the whole time. I didn't stay for the whole show so maybe I missed some good stuff.

My brother and I are Dylan diehards so we enjoyed the show. But, I see your point, I think we're the only kinda folks who really get excited about his shows these days.
He's reaaranged most of the classics to accomodate the still worsening vocals.
That said, there are A LOT of Dylan Diehards...so I'll still be excited to see him play.

This is one of the few additions that I really hope happens. I saw his show last May and loved it. He only plays piano these days so many in the audience don't know what to expect these days and were disappointed, but I still love it. All the new arrangements are interesting.
Don't get me wrong, a Dylan addition would be cool. I mean anytime you have the chance to see one of the greatest modern musicians perform, it's a blessing. I don't know if I'd go see him at Bonnaroo again, though. It'd depend who else was playing at the time. There was a time in my life when Dylan was my absolute favorite and I feel really lucky to have seen him while he was still playing guitar/harmonica and hadn't messed with the arrangements of his classics so much. Those shows will go down as some of the greatest things I've ever witnessed. I just don't think he can live up to those performances (for me) anymore. That's sad to say. I do think, however, that if you've never seen him and you enjoy his music that you should go see him at least once. The man is a living legend.
Not sure where Dylan would fit at this point. Unless we want to revive the Thursday headliner rumor. That said, I've heard great things about his latest tour. I'd love to see him added. If Dylan wants to play Roo, Dylan can play Roo. Just my opinion.

I've seen Dylan live once. It didn't do much for me. He seemed bored and "somewhere else" through the entire show. He never once said a single word to the audience. Not "Hello", not "Thanks", not a word. Tickets were $45 (back in 91 or 92) and he only played for about an hour. If I hadn't got my tickets for free, I would've been pissed. The whole show just seemed so pointless and obligatory. If it weren't for the fact that it was Bob Dylan, it would be the single most forgetable concert-going experience of my life. It just bored the hell out of me. And now that he's been selling his songs off for use in commercials, I have absolutely no interest in giving him another shot. When the "Voice Of A Generation" starts selling wonder-bras and thongs for Victoria's Secret, he ceases to be relevant, credible or worthy enough to waste my time on anymore. His "free cd with any purchase of $25 or more at participating reatailers" campaign (for Victoria's Secret) was the gruesome, unnecessary death of an era. (Just my $0.02)

The show I saw from his most recent tour was very good. The new material provided added highlights for a two hour-plus set of rearranged classics and covers. He (and his band) still got it, in my opinion.

Sounds like perhaps he just has very hit-or-miss performances. Myself, I've seen him twice (once @ roo), and mildly enjoyed it both time.

^ The voice of reason. It's good to see someone express their opinion without smiting someone else for theirs. Very refreshing. As soon as I have some to give, i'm giving you some karma.

I would be absolutely stoked to see Dylan. I was very disappointed that he wasn't on the initial line-up since he was on the rumored one. I think his new album's amazing and would love to see some of those tunes. I understand how his personality can really rub people the wrong way; I was studying under a guy on an island that taught Dylan how to paint and he said the whole time he was teaching him to paint he never heard him say a word. He described it as total confidence. Just a guy that felt like he no longer owed the world a single thing after his work had been bent and shaped to please others in which he had no say. To some it might seem like arrogance, and that's completely rational. I think he's just a weird dude, it was like seeing David Byrne back in '04, he seemed like a complete asshole, and he may be, but i would still go see him in a heartbeat. just my two cents
Having seen him at Roo '04 and then about a month or so later in a club setting, I'd also go with "hit or miss". I fell asleep during the Roo show but the club show could only be described as "a rollicking good time" by all present.
I've seen Dylan once a year for the past 4 yrs now, and 3 of the 4 shows were nothing less that great. Especially last summer's, that is among my top 10 favorite shows I've ever been to. The only one that didn't do it for me as much was his 'roo show in 04. It just seemed lackluster.

Dylan actually picked up the guitar again for a recent show... First time in several (5 or so?) years. I agree that he was much more fun 5-8 years ago than on his more recent tours, but hopefully he'll start adding some guitar back into the mix.

Just bumping this one as no-one seems to have noticed it.

Whaaaaaaa? Where did you get that impression? I saw his entire set and never felt as though he was an asshole, however you meant that. I'm not mad, just surprised. Please elaborate!
steveternal, from what I saw of Byrne he kept yelling at his sound guy throughout the whole thing about how he couldn't hear anyhting, telling other band members to either slow down or speed up, or that they were off, etc. What really got me was his yelling at his sound guy though, it just seemed kinda unproffesional, i had never seen anything like it. I don't hate the guy for it; i understand if you're on that level you expect everything to be working right for you, he just seemed overly angry. I thought i was making the whole thing up but that was the first thing my friends mentioned after the set.

Yeah, my girlfriend got front row tickets (Row 1, Seat 1, in fact) to his show in Madison a few months back and I thought it was great. A little disappointed to not see him play guitar, but I expected that and plus it was just so cool to hear new versions of Tangled Up in Blue and Like a Rolling Stone. He did just sort of sit there all night, though, in a mariachi outfit too. Then at the end he took of his hat and I could see that classic Dylan hair standing straight up and I think I had a flashback to 1964.
I say add him, but I'm kind of afraid to add anymore "must-see" bands to my list.

It happens. I wouldn't dislike him for it. Some people have no clue what they're doing behind a board and it blows my mind that they actually get to do so. Nothings a bigger bitch than being on stage and getting embarrassed due to something thats not your fault. Most musicians are perfectionists, but its only so you can enjoy their music.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
^^^^ I don't really remember Dave Byrne's sound problems. But he made an early comment about whether he'd play a whole set. It did seem like he cut it short. That might have been because of an impending rainstorm.
It was a good show, but he did seem to have something up his ass the whole time. Maybe he just doesn't like smelly hippies, and we all were smelly hippies by day 3 that year.

Dylan's been "selling out" since the begining. To me its part of what makes him so interesting and original. How predictable would it be for him to avoid that stuff and put all of his energy into anti war protests and global warming concerts. The man is going to live his life and do what he wants. Modern Times is excellent AND EXTREMELY RELEVENT.
