Well as most of us heard MMJ said they were taking 2007 off to do some recording and such, but lollapalooza announced their line-up. and low and behold, MMj half-way down the list. I was stunned. This could however be convincing evidence of a late addition by guys. Take it as you will, but i'm still hesitant to rule out My Morning Jacket altogether.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!

I prefer Bonnaroo's lineup as it is, but since they share a some bit aready, maybe Roo could pull a frew goodies off a that lineup (Roky erickson, MMJ, Yo la Tengo, Fem Kuti etc.).
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
I was soooo set on not going to Lolla this year. It's just such a hassle getting back from the festival (I've stayed in the 'burbs and taken the train in the last couple of years). But now that they have MMJ (and Pearl Jam and a few other acts that aren't at Roo) I don't know. Even the gf who was definitely in the "no" camp is considering it.

this was my thought when i saw the Lolla lineup, i dont think the possiblity of MMJ at Roo is non-existent. I dont understand why most people on this board think that if they e-mail some bands management, that they are gonna get a straight answer anyways. they wouldnt tell you if they were gonna be at Roo, they prolly sign papers forbidding them. maybe i'm being optimistic, but at least i'm being realistic about the e-mailing bands bullsh*t
Yeah, but you're treading dangerous grounds when you outright lie to your fans. It makes more sense to either not respond or leave the door open. I'm more likely to lean towards the people who say that they've spoken with a band's management are making it up than a band's management blatantly lying to fans. Who knows, though.
PS -- Please do not misread me, I'm not saying that anyone in particular is lying about their interactions with bands, etc. Just saying that to me it makes more sense than the other.

MMJ said it themselves. They look forward to 'Roo every year. If they don't play 'Roo, they'd piss a lot of people off. Also, if they don't play I think it's not like they wouldn't know what they'd be doing.

I take their lolla add as a pretty positive sign. I don't think I'm being too biased when I say that they love Bonnaroo and probably like it more than any other festival/major event that they play. Although if they do tour with PJ we're probably screwed.

Why do so many people think it is up to MMJ whether they play roo or not. It is up to superfly to ask them and all indications for this year are almost no repeats. Umphreys has expressed their disappointment at not being asked back for 2007 as well. So statements like this:

The whole MMJ is definitely not playing Roo this summer was completely based off a couple of emails management sent to curious fans. I said it then, I'll say it now, unless there is a previous engagement or health issues involved, don't count a band out. Management routinely lies when it comes to festivals. They do not exist to inform a band's fans. They exist to make the people they represent money.
I personally don't think an MMJ appearance at Roo is likely, but if they did play Roo, part of their negotiation with CSE to play Lolla might have been holding off on a Roo announcement until after Lolla tix go onsale.
Heres' the thing about MMJ at Bonnaroo 2007, their late night set in 2006 was the culmination of 4 straight years at the festival. There is pretty much no place left for them to go but downward now. And that's not to say that they would put on a bad show, but they aren't gonna put on a 3 hour marathon this year. It's just not gonna happen. So they are pretty much left with 2 options. A shortened gig on the mainstage, or no gig at all.
As much as I love MMJ (and went to Langerado this year mostly for them), I think it's healthy for them to take a year off. A year off allows them to shake off the expectations that came out of last years set, and come back to rock our faces. Who knows, by this time next year, they may even be Headline-Caliber. (that would be my dream anyway).
That being said, I was shocked to see them on the Lolla list. Hopefully they play Friday, b/c at this point, friday is the only day I am considering at Lolla.

MMJ at Lolla will be epic...
Taken from Jambase...
MMJ My Morning Jacket will be performing with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra at this year's Lollapalooza Festival, taking place in Chicago's Grant Park, August 3-5.
I just read their wikipedia page, and it said this...
They will not perform at this year's Bonnaroo, to rest and record a new album. This was confirmed by the band's management, but is still being disputed by some of the band.
Who knows what that means...but is it somewhat encouraging...
