I know that is a longshot, but Trent is free all of June/July then in Europe during August. I think US dates may be coming during that time because he is really excited about this album. The album is GREAT, by the way.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
Don't see it Happenning. Tool and Radiohead were big BIG stretches for the Roo to make lineup-wise, considering before that, they never had bands like those of that caliber. If NIN is a possibility, I'd say they would only be a possibility for next year, in a late night or headlining slot.
Has there been any confirmation that WSP is headlining on Sunday? I find it odd that Both of the other Headliners have confirmed their times, but not WSP. Possible they aren't headling?

No, they've headlined multiple days in years past, no way they get downgraded now. Besides, I believe when they first announced it on their website, WSP said they would be headlining along with Tool and The Police.

Maybe we could finally see the Maynard and Reznor hook up that was promised years ago. I think the project was Tapeworm or something, so this is completely not out of the question. NIN would be sick though since I have not yet had the honor to see them live yet.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
NIN is a bigger band than Tool, so I think they'd headline, but man, a late night outdoor NIN gig would blow my mind, especially if they can incorporate the great visual show NIN has. That is just too extreme for some rooers. I mean can you imagine sitting at Bonnaroo hearing "March Of THe Pigs" or "Big Man With A gUN" or "You Know What You Are." and people were talking about how Tool was too harsh...
Yeah, I'd love to see it happen, NIN is my all time favourite band, but I just don't see it ever happen.

I think Tool is far darker then NIN. NIN may be heavier then Tool, but so is TMV. NIN puts on an awesome show, and if Tool can headline theres surely no reason NIN couldnt play.

I think NIN is more popular, but they tour all the time, and Tool's limited touring is really why they're headlining. I'd definatly be down with NIN headlining though.

;D. Wow, its been a long time since I've heard the Tapeworm project mentioned. Years ago I had this great picture (animated) of Trent lighting a Tapeworm CD on fire with the caption "Trent Reznor hates you".

Ehh. I've always thrown alot of appreciation in Dave Grohls direction. He was a constant and engrained face in my musical upbringing. That said, he's really dropped off in recent years. I still love the passion he brings to the table, and Ill always pay good money to see him get behind a kit. What I wont do these days is pay good money for a Foos CD.

why is that blasphemy?
Because FF are a more current, happening band, whereas it's been 20 years since The Police had their last hit (not counting Sting's solo career). IMHO, it's the "we'll reunite when Hell freezes over" factor that's making The Police such a big draw, not necessarily their music catalog.
but if you were to compare mere staying power of the music and the actual (excuse me, but) much better musical quality of The Police. Ha, I want someone to find a Foo Fighters album that's better than any studio Police record... please do that for me.
edit: dont' get me wrong, I respect Grohl, but the Foo Fighters were never exactly a great band. I really love some of the additional drum work Dave's been doing lately though.

Thats a tough statement only because music is entirely based on perspective. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I enjoyed the first (self-titled) album from the Foos more than anything I've ever heard from the police.

Foo Fighters might have made the right music for the right time, and is nostalgic to allot of people. I just don't think they will be remembered quite ever as well as the Police. Nor will Foo Fighters ever be in line for a "top bands of all time" status like Police is and has been for a couple decades now.

I never said one was better than the other, so I won't argue that. Besides, better is a subjective term; I doubt I could convince you otherwise, especially if you've already made your mind up.
As for staying power, the argument could be made that The Police (5 studio albums produced over 5 years) are about to be overtaken by the Foo Fighters (5 studio albums over 10 years, and still going strong). As to whether anyone will be humming Monkey Wrench, This is a Call, Big Me, Everlong, My Hero, Learning to Fly, etc. after 20+ years remains to be seen (but at 10+ years, they're still holding up, IMHO).
I'm not trying to diminish The Police's legacy of pop music (they were a fond part of my childhood), but rather point out the hype engine powering 'the summer tour of 2007'.
"All in all, the creative act is not performed by the artist alone.. the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act." -- Marcel Duchamp
Foo Fighters are nowhere near being as good, nor will they have the staying power as the Police............i think you could poll that one and lose every time.
Comparing the Foo Fighers to the Police is a little ridiculous. The Police were massively huge. Foo Fighters are solid rockers who are just starting to be able to sell out arenas. Not hating on the Foo because they put on a great show and The Colour and the Shape is one of the more underrated albums of the 90s. But The Police were as big as U2, Coldplay and Radiohead are now in their heyday.
As for the topic at hand, NIN will not be at Roo this year. Too big and the headlining slots are filled. Plus, throwing them in there would totally destroy the balance Superfly aims for in their lineups.
But back to topic, if anything, as for this year, maybe, though highly unlikely, could do something with EL-P, and I think that's the only thing that could get him.but it would be amazing if somehow Trent and Tool rubbed out some of their tapeworm stuff, I think the only song of theirs that saw light of day was "Passive" I might be wrong though.

I happen to have an album's worth of Tapeworm, well, 10 songs at least. I guess there's a possibility that it's fake, but it certainly sounds like I would expect a Maynard/Trent duo to sound like. Here are the titles:
Chemical Clarknova eyeofthebeholder Fading Fiest (which I'm thinking is a typo of Feist, which is actually a word...according to dictionary.com anyway) Interview (not a song, really an interview) RMX Short Slowdriver Vacant (live at an APC concert, this one at least is definitely real)
