I'm not really thrilled with many of the bands playing this year either. There are a few "must-see" bands but, not all that many(IMO). That being said, all the bands that are currently listed will, most definitely, be there. There is still ample time for many artist additions but, regardless of how you feel or who gets added, It is absolutely worth the time/effort/price! Bonnaroo is all about discovering new music. I spend most of my weekend (this is my 4th year) just wandering around from tent to tent, band-browsing. I discover, at least, one band each year that I end-up really digging. It's a great place to have the "It's free, so f*ck it!" musical experiences that tend to make me a more well-rounded music fan. Some bands that I thought I didn't like, I find that i'm wrong about. With some bands that I hate, I establish exactly why I feel that way. Some genres that i've never had any use for, I start digging. It's a great atmosphere filled with great people exploring great music! It's that simple! It is a beautiful experience, if you let it be! Enter with an open mind and you will leave with a full heart!
For what it's worth, you might want to check-out the following bands(so far): Ornette Coleman STS9 Sasha & Digweed Tortoise Dj Shadow

Festivals should be all about experiencing new things, especially new music. I agree with oatmeal completely, you gotta open your mind REALLY wide. All of the artists listed above my post are great examples of artists to check out and be pleasantly surprised by. Each will bring an incredibly unique and energetic live show that just might blow your mind.
I haven't got much to add but repetition. The reason I love festivals is the new music, for instance, not 5 minutes ago I downloaded a Michael Franti and Spearhead concert (my first exposure to them) and they've already earned a top 5 spot for me.
Throw caution into the wind and start listening, you won't be disappointed.

I don't consider this line up to be "shaky" whatsoever. I think you might want to expand your musical horizons a little bit . . . based on which artists you think are "cool," it doesn't seem as if you have a feel for much outside the mainstream. I think if you listened to some more bands on the line up, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Just give some stuff a chance!
see, I disagree competely. There are multiple bands on this years lineup that I see as "flooring". Wheras, the past years, of the bands you listed, Only The Mars Volta is up there for me...and maybe The Allman Brothers.
I actually tend to think this year's lineup is stronger musically than last year's. It's just not as diverse or timely. But overall, the presence of musicians like Bromberg, Coleman, Morello and Thompson really adds to the usual cast of suspects.
At the same turn, the same lineup this year released last might very well have generated more wow than this year given a lot of the top acts released albums and did festival circuits LAST year.
I have been checking out some bands currently. I like a few. You maybe right. I maybe a little disappointed because lot's of my friends would have went but are just not too interested because they don't want to search. - it's lazy but true.
I'm gunna go and I have a couple friends that may come . I just hope that the wow is still gunna arrive in a few weeks. I want to bring all my buddies.
the Brizillian Girls are cool , STS9 rock too. I'l still gunna have fun.
Thank you for being cool. I'm not tring to disrespect.

Since the initial lineup...I've gone out and tried to get as much music as possible from roo artists... Not only so I know exactly what I want come schedule time, but to also turn my friends and I to knew music.
To each is own....One mans Radiohead is another mans Tool....
so to call any one year lineup...not as cool or less shakey as the others....
is kind of taking on the thought "THE WORLD REVOLVES AROUND YOUR LABELS"
and it doesn't!!!!
But enjoy roo, find new bands....and open your ears!!!

Personally, I think the White Stripes are one of the top 3 bands around today that I'd want to see anywhere... but it's even better that they're at Bonnaroo.
STS9, the Kings of Leon, and the Roots are going to be amazing too.

I agree that it is all about exploring new stuff at Bonnaroo, my first year I only went to the shows of bands I really wanted to see (some of them I had already seen). I enjoy going to Bonnaroo more now to see all the bands I have never heard of or never seen (despite the fact I will see Ben Harper and The White Stripes, who i have already seen). The last few years I have spent almost all of my time at sets of bands I had never seen or never heard of and it payed off. I would never have even known about The Black Keys if I wouldnt have wandered into their set in 04, or Dr.Dog if I hadnt stopped to see their set in 05(which I will be seeing this year as well, I guess thats another repeat show for me), or Devendra Banhart if I wouldnt have followed an extremely enthusiastic Devendra fan I met at the Seu Jorge set (great guy). That adds another aspect, get out there and let someone show you their music, you may just like it...but enough of that...

For me and my musical tastes, this lineup couldn't get better. I like all sorts of genres, and for each genre that I love, I get one of my most favorite bands in that category of music. (Art rock/Hard rock) Tool (Reggae Rock) Michael Franti (Acoustic twang rock) John Butler Trio (Acoustic alternative) Damien Rice) (Jamband) Widespread Panic (Classic Rock) the Police (The everything genre) Ben Harper (Bluegrass) Old Crow Medicine Show (Hoping for Nickel Creek) (Electronica) Sasha
And the list goes on and on, seriously, it can't get any better than this. Just do what everyone else on this board is saying, expand your musical horizons. You won't be sorry!

Suitcase,
That's one of my favorite things about Bonnaroo, the opportunity to educate myself about new music. Mind you, it's hell on my pocketbook, but I've already learned about a boatload of new music this year that when I went out and listened to it, turned out to be tremendous. I have Bonnaroo to thank for all of that.
