if we're defining 'complete' to mean being present for every minute of an artist's performance then i have very few complete sets under my belt, as i was constantly 5 minutes late or leaving 5 minutes early +/- a few minutes. i caught a total of 16 acts (maybe 3-4 complete?) last year and i definitely made rookie mistakes, not taking care of myself properly and partying too hard caused me to wake up sunday incredibly sick and i slept the entire day at the campsite missing every act that day. i'm definitely in a much better position this year, having found my show-seeing groove from hitting other festivals since then.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I would count a 5-10 minute cushion at the start or beginning of a show being missed as complete. Sometimes a few minutes can be missed just working through the crowd towards a particular stage/tent.

Thanks to all of you for sharing a wealth of information for us 'roo virgins so's we don't fall into the rookie pitfalls and miss many of the bands we have come to see.
Oh and how do you remember all the bands so well from like 3 years ago (or even last year) if you do all that drinking and stuff I hear about? I will def put a lil' notebook in my backpack/chair. I want to be able to go the distance, miss as little as possible, and be able to post on this thread next year.
I saw 11 full sets at Langerado and 19 artists in total. In addition Langerado doesn't have nearly as much music, but i also wasn't battling 100 degree heat. I am definantly going for at least 15 1/2 to full sets at Bonnaroo

I just looked at the 2006 lineup and I saw 19 different acts total. Full shows, I would probably say around 10-12. I also had a lot of fun spending time in the silent disco, and with the dj's in the arcade tent.

That's 25 bands, not including bands I haven't listened to enough and may want to see, or any artist additions. This will be my first time to Roo, although I am staying in VIP. Will I be over my head trying to catch all the bands I listed above (more importantly the "must sees")? I like many other would prefer to catch the entire sets.
^^^Chances are that Saturday afternoon at least three of the acts you listed as A's will be playing at the same time. Be ready to make some hard choices. I have attended every Roo and at every one there is at least one two hour period where every stage has someone playing that I want to see. It's usually Saturday afternoon.
Also they give you a handy pocketsize schedule and map in your program when you get there. Take care of this little gem, as it will save you alot of walking around trying to find the stage when you have to walk away from someone you love to go see someone else you love.

After looking at past years' schedules I figured I would run into that problem. Looks like we'll all have to make some decisions, but I should be able to deal with it.
I'll be sure to have a map and schedule at all times...no way am I going to make rookie mistakes and miss my favorite bands : )

Partial Sets: Seu Jorge Ben Folds G Love Ramble Dove Neville Brothers Jr Gong Les Claypool Dr. John Dumpstaphunk GRAB superjam Refugee Allstars Matisyahu Sonic Youth Bonnie Raitt Phil Lesh I also caught quite a bit on the sonic stage last year, icluding the Wood Bros, Devotchka and the Futerman String Quartet thing, and part of one cafe act on Sat night (I forget who). I would have had even more but I didn't see anything on Thurs night (except Silent Dinner jamming on shakedown; does that count?)

I guess my point with this thread....is that you'll see fewer than you think.
With all the fuss about additions it's important to remember that you've probably got more bands than you'll see already.
I know that's the case for me. SOOO MUCH MUSIC!! Anyway..I guess I usually see full sets. So while I do browse other shows...my totals are for totals sets.

This was eye opening. I felt like I improved vastly from 2004 to 2006, but, all in all, it looks like I just saw more of the shows that I saw. Here it is:

last year i saw the wood brothers, seu jorge, ramble dove, oyesterhead, petty, umphrey's mcgee, bisco, buddy guy, MMW, radiohead, GRAB, refugee all-stars, sonic youth and phil...so that's 14.
i hope to see at least that many this year, depending on conflicts, etc.
I saw 9 full sets last year. Plus 4 full sets on the sonic stage. I got 8 partial sets, so overall 21 shows that I caught some part of, which is not bad.
Last year got 10 full sets and 6 partials, plus Electric Apricot and the Les Claypool Sonic Stage interview. I had several must see bands (moe., Son Volt, Oysterhead/Petty) so I tended to just camp out in front of a stage instead of trying to catch a little of a lot. I know I missed a lot of good stuff but I saw some unexpected stuff, too, and left feeling like I really saw who I wanted to see. And my deep admiration to those who made it all the way through the UM/Bisco show!
I find it a great time saver to pull the ol' napparoo under a tree in the center. If you feel yourself getting drained in the early day going to camp to rest can be self defeating, with all the walking. If you flop in ceteroo you can just pop up and rage with no hassles. Has worked for me several times.

I love the fact that you can just go to sleep basically anywhere, even in Centeroo. Does anybody ever get onto these guys sleeping, or do people just ignore them? I am new at roo and just want to make sure that is an option we can use to save ourselves for all of the shows.

pretty much just ignore them. i can't sleep during the day with that heat so neither i nor anyone i've gone with has tried but i've seen tons of people doing it and not one of them being bothered.

^I plan on passing out under neath one of the tents when it is too hot to sleep in the morning.

^Chilling/sleeping/zoning/whatever next to the Comedy tent is really nice(if it's still in the same place). There's plenty of mid-day shade and the intake from the ac units create a very nice breeze.

^ I've also heard that the cinema tent is the way to go. It's open all the time. I just need to pop in some Miles Davis to chill and drown out the sound.

I saw most of these in full except for Claypool and MMW, I left MMW halfway through to catch the end of Claypool. I stopped by the Preservation Hall a few times as well.

wow, last year was my first roo and I was able to catch 11 full shows and 4 nearly fusll shows and gave a lot of other bands a quick listen, that was with missing everything on thursday and wussing out on mmj ahlf way in... easily could have been 15-16 full shows. I don't feel so bad now, can't wait for june.
2006 popped my Bonnaroo cherry. Great time. In all, I was able to hit up about 13 full & partial sets.
I ended up passing out early Friday night (around midnight) so that I would be fully prepared for Radiohead on Saturday.
I highly regret missing Common, Blackalicious, and the other Friday late night acts, but I felt great on Saturday.
Just don't push it too much. Such is the key to Bonnaroo and life in general. Stop when you think you should stop, and keep going when you need to. Don't worry about getting your money's worth. The experience will make up for itself.
