The thing that really sucks is MTV and local radio stations use to lead the way in getting out good music. I guess by your definition of mainstream (which is cool by me) if a band becomes "unlucky" enough to have MTV producers find them out early or a radio station disc jockey that loves there tunes they are screwed and destined for mainstream paradise. If a band can avoid these types and stay off the mtv radar and off the radio they won't be mainstream?? Can a band carry a huge audience and almost everybody knows them but never was on mtv or radio be mainstream?.......The term mainstream IMO is useless in music almost like tring to put bands in certain genres.....years ago it was easy u had rock, rap, country ect......Music today crossess all boundries...for example listen to SCI one song sounds like bluegrass then another sounds like your at a rave dance party.....

so if u change your shows every night then your not mainstream??? hmmm
I just think music fests in general are the wave of the future. Fests in genral are becoming the norm not the exception mainly b/c there is so much choice in music nowadays and there are no huge bands like the dead, police, theboss, the list goes on and on that can pack it in night after night. So to hear the 'roo on radio doesn't mean 'roo is changing it mean the way people choose to spend money on music is changing
