It's kind of an interesting look into the Police from inside. I rather enjoyed it.
People in the comments have gotten all in a tizzy about Copeland's disparaging comments towards Miles Davis and John Coltrane, which I personally find very amusing. A lot of people are saying "Oh I just lost all respect I had for him, both personally and as a musician!" That just doesn't make sense to me; his playing isn't any different now that he expressed that opinion. I mean, sure I disagree with him (Miles Davis was a god, basically, and Coltrane, while not my personal favorite, was certainly not bad in any sense of the word), but he's still a kickass drummer and composer and he's entitled to his opinion.
That apart from the fact that he fairly obviously said that just to get people angry and talking (you've got to admit, jazz since bebop is very much a he-man macho who's-got-the-biggest-balls contest as to whose fingers can move the fastest - Stewart isn't at all wrong there). "And my main reason why I love dissing jazz is jazz musicians." Yeah.
Anyway, I just posted this to see what you guys think. Any ideas?
I love scenario of Sting discovering reggae: "Sting certainly discovered reggae. He had a New Years Eve party in 76-77 and he borrowed my record player because he didn't have one, and also my record collection, and for the first five days of the following year I think Sting was deeply lost in a world entrenched by reggae. There was a real sudden and dramatic conversion."
I just keep wondering what the equivalent would be now-- borrowing someone's iPod?
