I'm hoping ALO will be back this year at Bonnaroo... they have a new album coming out in May.
More on the new album Roses & Clover, due to release May 1st of this year, later…but for now…
Get to know Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO). If you don't already know them by their groove, their friends (Tea Leaf Green, Jack Johnson), or their reputation as musicians with a vibe that's so calm its otherworldly.
After Bonnaroo 2005 I wrote Zach. I had really connected with ALO's music as the absolute opener of Bonnaroo (they played first on Thursday night there, changing the lyric of "Welcome to your barbecue" to "Welcome to your Bonnaroo" and we all went appropriately nuts and fell in love with the band). I was equally impressed when I later saw Zach play with Jack Johnson during a rainstorm on the Bonnaroo grounds, providing exactly the extra complexity and harmony Jack had been needing in his career. Once I returned from Roo, dirty copy of Fly Between Falls in my hands that i picked up from a vendor and the tinkle of Zach's piano and Dan's mesmerizing guitar still echoing in my head, I wrote Zach to tell him how I enjoyed the show. We shared a few words about being dads and late twenty-somethings about to be early-thirtysomethings. The fact that he personally wrote me back at all was nice.
These guys are the real deal. They aren't a typical "jam band" whatever that means. These guys are a summer breeze, they're the coozy on your beer, they're the smile from that cute girl across the neighborhood BBQ.
I just listened to an early copy of Roses & Clover and I'm happy to report that they've somehow even gotten better-- more mature in the studio tinkering (and probably equipment) but still with all their comfortable atmosphere of coolness in tact. That's no easy feat. I've had many a band in a similar place musically awkwardly stumble through fame and persistence to not come out the other end as beloved or together (Everything, I'm looking at you longingly). But again, these guys are a different crowd to begin with.
Check out Fly Between Falls right now and get caught up. Catch them at a show, even a festival ("Dear sweet Gods above please let them add to Bonnaroo this year"). I'll give you a better look at Roses & Clover as we get closer to the release date and after I'm done curling up a few nights with it.
agreed Fly Between Falls is an awesome album and for anyone who has ever been to Roo i dare you to listen to the song "Walls of Jericho" and not get a smile on your face
No word on it yet. We’d love to be there. I’d personally love to see The Police reunion, wow! We’ll see, we’re holding on. It probably wouldn’t hurt to send them an email like this, keep ALO on their radar. Try their website for contact info.

Hey, I just want to let you guys know I enjoy your music and think you're amazing. My friends and I got together tonight for dinner to discuss plans for our 3rd trip back to Bonnaroo Music Festival. At first, we were debating whether to attend Wakarusa instead, but majority vote went to Bonnaroo. My friend, Jenny, was very upset about this because she really wanted to see you guys at Wakarusa(and she's not really a Tool fan), which brings me to the reason of my email. I know ALO wasn't listed in the Initial Artist Line-up for 'Roo, but they have afew artist additions announced later on. So, is there any hope that ALO will be playing at Bonnaroo 2007? I'd love to be able to lift Jen's spirits if you are going to be there, so if it's not too much, just shoot me an email back. Keep up the phenomenal work and take care!!!
I haven't gotten around to emailing the bonnaroo people. Actually, I don't really know who to email, but I say we all get behind this and push for ALO. I think it'd be a great addition to the fest. They're Roo vets!
i jsut picked up Fly Between Falls on iTunes and loved it. THat song Walls of Jericho put a huge smile on my face and made me think of Roo. I would be quite happy if they decided to join the croo
