With Shin's frontman James Mercer appearing on three tracks from the new Modest Mouse album, I think it would make sense for both bands to be added to the lineup. Although I must say I think the Shins seem kind of boring live, but I haven't seen them in person before, just on TV. Their records are great though. Saw MM at Roo in '05 and I've been a big fan of theirs for years so I'd be excited to see 'em again. Opinions??

MMs new album aint that band. Not exactly my cup of tea, but very listenable. I have a thing against MM now ever since I heard them say something to the effect of their fans not meaning anything to them anymore. Thats f*cked man. Dont bite the hand that feeds.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
Yeah, I'm sorry, I'd love to see Modest Mouse live sometime, but dammit. The last two albums aren't Modest Mouse. I hated Good News, and this new one only seems like a babystep forward. I fear that the band that made Teeth Like God's Shoeshine, Dramamine, and Cowboy Dan is no longer...
Yeah, not to say that I don't love Modest Mouse. They're one of my 10 favourite current bands, I just love the older stuff sooo much more. As I've said before, if Modest Mouse signs, there's more chance of me going. which I will.

That is just not true.
It's still MM. I dig their older stuff better, you can't beat it. However, seeing MM would be absolutely stellar either way. I'm not the biggest fan of their new album, but hell, I'm sure they put on a damn fine show.

I prefer the older stuff too. Few indie records in history hold up to "Lonesome Crowded West" or "Builiding Nothing Out of Something". That said, I think this new record kicks ass. "Parting of the Sensory" is up there with MM's best tunes, with Brock's observations as cynical and introspective as ever..."Someday you will die/and somehow something's gonna steal your carbon". And the rest of the record doesn't slack. Hell, even "Dashboard" is starting to grow on me and I thought that song sucked before the album leaked. Modest Mouse may never make another "Trucker's Atlas" or "Dramamine", those songs are cornerstones in a prolific career. With "We Were Dead...", the band shows creative growth, which after nearly 20 years, I will gladly take over stagnance anyday.
Hey, I'll be the first to say I like older Modest Mouse albums more than I've liked the last two. Moon & Antarctica, Lonesome Crowded West, and Long Drive are classics that will always be the heart of what Modest Mouse is to me. But their new stuff is good, too. The great thing is that it is still Modest Mouse. They still play their old songs in concert. They rocked the f**k out of "Cowboy Dan" at Roo in '05.

The Shins aren't the best live band. But hearing them live is pretty damn entertaining. You would be suprised how much fun you would have at their show. Last time they came here I saw them. I was impressed that a band with that kind of music could put on a pretty good performance.

Modest Mouse Is a great band. I have grown a bit disappointed over the years with them only because of the Good News album. Not that it is bad in any way, I love songs like Bukowski, Blame it on the Tetons and Good Times Are Killing Me (which in 05 they brought out a bunch of their roadies to play on, which was awesome). But they will never be able to replace songs like Doin The Cockroach and Lounge(some of my favorite live performance songs). This is also bias since I idolized This Is A Long Drive... through my high school years. But they would be a good add to Bonnaroo. Maybe even an Ugly Casanova add would be sweet (wont happen but I can wish).
I will admit that sometimes their live shows are hit and miss but Isaac has cleaned his act up a bit, when I saw them in Chicago a few years back he was too drunk to really perform and ive heard that from a couple people but it still makes for an exciting show either way.
But arguing is kinda like Talking Sh*T About A Pretty Sunset...
I'm not entirely certain that Brock dominating that band was what was best for their sound in the long run. They still sound good, but I agree that it's hard to say they are better now than they were before M&A.

I saw modest mouse at the fox in atlanta and it bleeeewwww. Ruined my opinion of them. THey palyed for sixty minutes and soudned horrible and out of tune.
Never seen MM, but I can attest to The Shins power. I've seen em twice. The first time was all standard versions of their songs and they played em quickly. The last time I saw em, they were opening for The White Stripes (ironically), and they were really friggin good. Better than The White Stripes actually, cause Jack White was f*cked out of his gourd. He couldn't even stand up. But yeah, give me em both please.

I agree MM new album is fantastic. Not too sure about The Shins, never saw them live before. I caught MM at Timberwolf Amp Theatre at King's Island amusment park two years ago and they were fantastic! I hope to wake up and see them added tomorrow before class

Me not being a fan, to defend mm's roo 05 set, they were having a lot of technical difficultys, and were playing on which stage, which is a difficulty of its own.
I fear that the band that made Teeth Like God's Shoeshine, Dramamine, and Cowboy Dan is no longer...
But, when you think about it, how many bands can make songs as good as Teeth Like God's Shoeshine and Cowboy Dan on every album? The Lonesome Crowded West was an anomaly, it was one of those albums that we'll be talking about in twenty years, and it's not something to expect a band to live up to. They're people, and their tastes change, the music they enjoy changes, and they change as people. A lot of fans want a band to stick to what they've been doing, but few people seem to realize that the band is made up of multiple people who have their own likes and dislikes.
It is normal for a band to change their sound over time.
It is unnatural for a band to retain the same sound throughout their career. People change.

i'm a huge modest mouse fan and while their older stuff can't be touched - i don't think they've made a bad album. and this new one is simply amazing! the old die hard mouse fans hated good news cos it was so poppy but this one is definitely a step back towards something rough and "old mouse"-like. although there are a few definite pop songs on here....i'm still stoked that isaac's unintelligible ramblings are coming back..when he kicks into those crazy rants on "march into the sea"...whew!
any rate i love the new modest mouse record and the new shins record..and they both should play this year!!!

Wow, I'm suprised there have been no additions yet. I was hoping to get up for class and have a new band but....i guess i'll have to wait until 12. Happy ticket day!

I thought Modest Mouse in 05 was terrible. A big disappointment because I love their albums.
Saw The Shins just a week or so ago in St. Louis. They were great. The crowd was great.
I saw The Shins as well at the pageant in STL. I thought the crowd was fucking HORRIBLE! I was about 2 people from the rail and no one was into the show or singing or anything. The band was great though. Would love to see them again, with a much better crowd.
