I actually hate Deerhoof. I caught them opening for the Flaming Lips and wasn't very happy. But that's the best part about Bonnaroo. If I don't like what's on one stage, I can go check out another one.
Deerhoof is cool, but im kinda in same boat as pimprock, i love their music but her voice gets on my neves after a few songs, but very lipish. Not to degrade her talent in any way though :-) Cant wait to see the lips late night btw!

Rock on Diversity.
word up. they opened for radiohead on the west coast, and i think i was laughing to myself the entire set in disbelief of the noises that were being transmitted to my poor poor ears, i think part of that was due to their sound being off, but to each their own!
I mean, I listen to 'The Runners Four' and I hear a band that would be pretty big within indie circles if they had a different lead singer. I just sort of think they might take the no wave thing a little too far...

Would be a great Thursday night.
Got me really aggravated reading some of your other posts. I can't hate on anyone who ups Deerhoof though. Why don't you make an account and become part of the community?
Got to catch them twice last year. Once opening for the FLips and once at a venue in NYC that Ive never seen and now am in love with. Called Hiro Ballroom, thoroughly Japanese themed with 2 ACCESSIBLE floors. I must say, Satomi is one of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.
They also put on a pretty good show. My interest in them has kind of snowballed over the last 2 years. Just one of those bands that took me a bit to really appreciate.
If you get the chance and the price is right, they're definitely worth checking out.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
I am sure I will catch flack for this, but, I saw them open for The Flaming Lips back in September and I thought they were horrible. I guess they could fit in at the diverse Bonnaroo that is going to happen. Just not my thing though.
Wow. Honestly, I have no idea how someone could hate this band. Okay, scratch that. I could. But wow. Prepare for wild post-show hyperbole:
First, they are a modern day Velvet Underground. I say this because if you know anything about VU, you'll know most people who saw them live hated them. Why? Because they're sound was so out there. Same thing applies to Deerhoof. They're pretty much throwing any genre of music you can think of into a blender and coming out with their sound. There was one point that the drummer was playing a dub beat, the guitarist was pulling metal riffs and the singer/bassist was doing this sing-song little girl voice with a bass line to match. Sure it's weird. Sure it's hard listening, but you'd be hard pressed to find many bands as talented, adventurous and unassuming as these guys in the indie scene right now. There sound jumps from hyper active rock to chill bossa nova to introspective ambient all in the course of 10 minutes. It's crazy.
To each his or her own, but see this f**king band if you know what's good for you. Even if you hate them, you need to see them cause they're just totally different than just about anything out there I've seen. I'll definitely catch them again the next chance I get.

Yes Deerhoof does go all over the place...however to me, it sounds more like a jumble of noise than a sound I emjoy hearing personally. Not sure that I agree with the VU comparison, either, but I guess to each his own.
