When I see The Police at Roo it'll be a new record for me as the longest time between seeing the same band twice. I saw them at the Camden Town Roundhouse (London) in 1978 (with Blondie), so that's a 29 year interval. My previous record holders were New Order (1981-2005) and The Cure (1980-2004).

Wow! I'm not even 29, period. I'm giving you karma for still going strong...some of my friends my own age think it's 'stupid' to leave the house and go to rock shows and such.
Blondie were great (as were The Police), it was the time of Denis, Denis, Rip Her to Shreds and X-Offender. Personally I think they went downhill from there.
I try to take my kids to shows when I can, but it's Evanescence, Simple Plan and Good Charlotte etc. Every year I have two weekends all to myself - one for a retreat and one for a festival (Coachella or Roo), plus a few single shows when I can.
EDIT: Karma and a Swamp Butt - in one thread! Whee!
How old are your kids, if you don't mind me asking?
I have taken my kids to see Trey Anastasio twice (ages 6 and 9). They love phish/trey. They never saw phish, and i would never take them to Bonnaroo (too big too hot too much) until they are teenagers at least. My 6 year old was actually disappointed when phish broke up. He was 4 at the time, and I told him about the impeding split, and his reaction was "what? but i never got to see..." Broke my heart a little bit, but phish was definitely not a place for kids. Trey on the other hand, I have no qualms about, as the scene is virtually non-existent these days. Hopefully they are following in my music-loving footsteps. I have to smile a little when I catch them singing a Trey Anastasio or Radiohead song... that's my boys!!
My kids are 14 and 15. They get exposed to a lot of my music and I get good feedback but when I ask if they want a copy of a track on their iPods, they kinda loose interest. Both very much single track listeners, whereas I'm an album guy.
I want them to discover their own music for themselves, I see my job as being to open a few doors that they may not have realized were even there...
EDIT: great screen name GOUGEaway, you'd have loved that 2004 Cure show, it was the Coachella with Pixies and Radiohead.
yea, i've never been to coachella, I wanted to go that year the most to see the reunited pixies, but just couldn't make it happen.
you win some you lose some. I actually went to ACL to see them, and then they put the Pixies and Trey up against each other, and those were the 2 bands I went there to see! arghh!! I've been hoping for the Pixies to play Roo since then. Doubt it'll happen this year, but with the exanded lineup it's always a possiblity.
Well, I saw Van Halen in '77, and if they come to the SF Bay Area this summer I'll see 'em again. That'll give me 30 years between shows. I've seen 'em a couple times since '77, so does that still count?
What!? When did that happen ? Just yesterday it was still on. Even Sammy Hagar was pshched. Turns out that was in 1978 not 77, so I'm at 29 years. But, I went to all of these Day-On-The Green shows from 77 to 1981, so if Fleetwood Mac comes around, I'll still have my 30
