I'll be a first timer at Bonnaroo, and curious if someone can tell me how the late night shows work?
Which night(s), what bands have played in the past (I do know Mars Volta played one night, and I really wish I was there to see it), what time to they play at, and how long are the show?

bands usualy start at midngiht, and they play for a while, usually like 2 hours or so. my favorite show last eyar was dr.john as the ngiht tripper late night
sts9 already annoucned they're having a late ngiht slot this year, so i hope that helps

All depends on the bands, and theres several late night slots. Google for the schedules, and see how it worked out. Some bands play till the sun comes up, you never know.

What you also need to know is the late nights are when the crowd is particularly "active". It turns into the most bizarre spectacle after the headliners finish and I love it!
i agree about it being a spectacle at night. its awesome! i cant wait for late night. the shows are always memorable as well. bonnarooooooooooooooooooooooo!
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**

Don't forget The Mars Volta. I really hope they play again this year.

know why? you know that big arch everyone walks through after the headliners are done? its not really an arch, its a portal
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Haha, agreed about the portal! It definitely is an outstanding experience! We already know that STS9 and Sascha are doing a late night...would anybody be down for some Late night Ween? I know I am! What if Ben Harper did late night? That'd be amazing!

I rather harper play during the day, because id like to see him, but i have a feeling if he were up against the late night acts id see them first. I also dont think girl talk will put on a marathon show, i havnt really heard of him playing past 2 hours, and its basically just him and a laptop. I think he'd be a good act for the masquerade.
Yeah, I'm thinking maybe Girl Talk/DJ Shadow though, depending on who they add. If Shadow starts out with hyphy, it would make a lot of sense. We'll see though.

I could see them stacking the two, that could work out well, especially considering there would be little transition time needed between the two, if any at all.

So how should we expect it to work, say 2-3 bands total? Assuming 2, one playing Friday night at midnight and the other on Saturday? Or do they have 2 bands at the same time each night? Or is it one band at midnight and the other at say 2 or 3am?
Or does it switch every year?
Sorry, I'm just so excited to go, and these late night shows sound great. I want to know more!!! : )
Theres the schedules from the last two year, so you can see there how late night works. The bands with no one playing after them have the liberty of playing past their slot, and some do.

Wow, thanks a lot...music basically from noon until 4 or 5:30 am...that's nuts!
As a side note I don't like a couple of the conflicts
Oysterhead at the same time as Robert Randolph & Sonic Youth at the same time Moe
Guess you gotta expect that at all festivals...anyways, can't wait to relax after the headliners, drink a couple beers and watch some jams at 2am!!!

I hope they step it up this year, because looking at those schedules i think 05's latenight was waaaaay stronger then 06's, although i prefer 06's lineup overall. They gotta bring it back to 05' form, and one of the previous years they had primus and ween in the same latenight. Hopefully we'll see a return to form, i think they're off to a good start.

Yes, it was glorious, best show i've ever seen. And the more i remember, probably the best i'll ever see, although the headliners this year have a chance to be very special.

i remember waiting forever for The Mars Volta, i had sand in my shoes and i was a bit grouchy, but once they started playing, well, it kind of changed my life.
i felt sorry for that dude who failed trying to jump on the stage, i seriously thought he was going to die.

www.jambase.com/festivals/bonnaroo/page2.htm I'm glad i didnt go in 04', because i think saturday late night would've given me a anuerism. Saul Williams made the wait fly for the mars volta for me.
