I don't know much about Tool. Do they have enough to headline Bonnaroo?
They are incredible live......Trey said it best in Rolling Stone "They are the most psychadelic band out there" Have you heard "The Pot" they are beyond funky

They are one of the most popular bands in the world. They have been around since the early 90s and they were a pioneer for the current prog. rock movement. They've released 7(?) albums. They are all about political activeness and challenging authority. They are all UNBELIEVABLE musicians.
In short, yes... they have 'enough'.
I would suggest downloading/buying Aenema or Lateralus immediately (I got my Tool start with Aenema, personally) and familiarize yourself with the music. They are a GREAT band.

Ive seen them 3 times so far, and I have to say that their show was beyond anything else Ive ever seen! including:phish, radiohead, petty, the dead. I went to the show in chicago in nov and they have now included lasers into their light shows, which is something new from the last time I saw them. I can only imagine what it will look like from the back of the lawn seeing those lights play off of 60,000+ people.
as far as the music goes, they get lumped into the metal/hard rock category by most people, which is unfair. I view them as more of a dream theater esque rock opera type band. Most of their albums flow together so perfectly that you might think it were just one track. Their live shows do this as well.
rest assured, no one is going to start vicious mosh pit, and you will most definitely enjoy the show.
I really dont think so...they just finished a US tour which had huge ticket sales so alot of people have seen them already. Everyone worried about Death Cab and Radiohead last year and I didnt see any difference in the crowd. I think the Police will bring a more diverse crowd than tool will (at least diverse in brining more "older" Rooers)

will they bring a different crowd to the 'Roo?
I think you will find that the majority of the people going to Roo will already be Tool fans, along with loving jambands, or at least are familiar with their music. I am the biggest hippie out there - I'm a huge deadhead, I love all the jamband stuff but I also LOVE Tool. It seems to me that most people going to Roo have a very diverse love of music and are more open than most to any kind of music - as long as it is good music, being played by talented musicians. So I really don't see there being much of a difference in the crowd, maybe a little but nothing that will make a difference.

You should really check out some Tool before Roo. I am a pretty recent convert to them and it took me a while to get into them, but now I wonder why because they are truly an amazing band.

Great music is great music. I've found that most Tool fans are not the same people you see at Ozzfest (well... a few might be). Tool fans are a very wide-ranging variety. Every Radiohead nut that I know is also really into Tool.
Basically, if you give them a chance and get around the labels that people try to put on music, you will probably find yourself a big Tool fan. Great music is great music.
When people stop putting labels on music (ie: alt. rock, prog. rock, indie, emo, etc.) the world will be a better place.

DEFINITELY.
I would advise everyone that is going to 'Roo to download/buy Lateralus or Aenema in the near future and give them some listens. It will be a much better show for you if you know what to expect and have certain songs that you would like to hear.
It could be a bit of culture shock if you go from Ziggy Marley to Tool without ever hearing Tool before.
It took me about 2 listens to Lateralus before I was completely hooked and had forgotten that I wasn't 'supposed' to be into 'hard' music.
