Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I've seen his name come up in years past, but you're right about not too many mentions of him this year -- it's kind of a wonder that he hasn't played Roo yet!
I saw him quite a few years back in Chicago and he put on a fun show.
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."
It's embarassing, but I only realized that Paul Simon was the Simon from Simon & Garfunkle in the past month or so. It just never really clicked for me. Still can't name anything he's really done, though, recommendations?

Would Simon & Garfunkle be too big for Bonnaroo?
I kinda feel that Paul Simon alone is bigger then Simon & Garfunkle right now. After they did their solo stuff a lot of people realized that Paul Simon kinda carried the weight of the band. I've seen Garfunkle play at some random theater for 15$, and didnt hear great things about it, so maybe Paul's better off on his own now.
i d be happy if adrian belew was with him. i think it would make a great show. im so excited about going to the 4 umphreys shows with belew that i can hardly contain myself until march. and as long as hes there with simon, king crimson should play. and he should play a latenight with umphreys. adrian belew should be the dude who just jams with everyone at roo.

start with Graceland, his best album IMO. also, his self-titled and One Trick Pony albums are great too.
I've always thought of Paul Simon as a great Friday night headliner. He could bring out and play with just about anyone @ bonnaroo
Since I'm probably the biggest Paul Simon fan on the board, let me weigh in on a few things.
First, he is putting on a great show, even with his new band. I saw him in July and he was hot (especially with Steve Gadd on the skins). I definitely think he'd fit just fine at Bonnaroo-- he's on my wishlist and my guesslist-- but to be honest I'd be surprised (no pun intended) if he's a headliner. If Dylan can't headline, I don't think Simon can. I don't believe "Surprise" even charted that high, although I may be wrong.
And yes, Simon solo is bigger than Simon & Garfunkel. While people have known since Simon's self-titled solo album in 1970 that he was the more important of the two, their reunion in 2003 was a bit of a letdown (saw them then as well). Simon put together some exciting and fresh arrangements to their old songs, but their chemistry was gone, and even worse, their trademark vocal harmonies. Solo Simon would do much better at Bonnaroo. Garfunkel should stick to his day job, which is teaching high school math.
Finally and perhaps most importantly, to recommend stuff for isaac and others looking to get into him. My opinion is that Simon is easily one of the greatest songwriters the world has ever known. His ability to marry beautiful yet poingant melodies with remarkably complex harmonies and song structures is really one of a kind. Add to that, he is a peerless lyricist; I'll be very bold and say he's better than Dylan, Young, Waits, anyone else. His observations and imagery are breathtaking.
So, where to begin? Begin with Simon & Garfunkel. Probably you should start with their most lauded work, "Bridge over Troubled Water", but soon move onto "Bookends", their most adventurous and rewarding. For solo Paul, again go with the popular vote, "Graceland" and perhaps "There Goes Rhymin' Simon". (You might also want to take a detour through his other excellent early albums, "Paul Simon" and "Still Crazy After All These Years"). But-- and this is really the one absolute requisie-- you must finally listen to his very greatest work, "The Rhythm of the Saints". Not only are his songs and lyrics in top form here, but he completely reinvents world fusion from the top down. It's quite simply beyond anything anyone has ever done. It'll change your life.
Perhaps too much hyperbole, but I really don't think so. Now stop reading and get to work! Thanks for your time, everybody.
Honestly Simon would put on a way better show than Dylan. Not that I wouldn't be pleased with Dylan as a headliner I just think Paul would fit it much better....just the vibe of the concert and all....it would be an incredible show.
Hey, I still agree with you there-- Simon live tops Dylan live. My only reasoning is that, yes he's a legend (he's probably one of the few people who could play Bonnaroo that has actually been recording longer than Dylan), but does he have the current popularity to warrant a headlining spot? And that I'm not sure of. Believe me, I'd prefer him to headline: a 3 hour Paul Simon concert would kill me with happiness poisoning.
I just checked: on the Billboard chart, "Surprise" topped out at #14, and none of his singles from that album apparently charted. Just for the record (again, no pun intended).
My exact thoughts when I saw this. I'd be happy if he was there, but he's not going to headline.
??? Paul Simon wouldn't be at Roo unless he was headlining I'm sure. And he'd be a great one at that....
Don't get me wrong he's a great artist, but I don't think he's going to have a large enough draw to headline a night at a festival the size of Bonnaroo. As a pre-headliner, he'd be perfect.
I would love Paul Simon as a headliner. How awesome would Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard be? Also I think he would be great at having guests up with him. In 2001 DMB had him guest for a song at Jazzfest also, so perhaps he could make the rounds with some other artists too.
Paul Simon would be a very welcomed headliner. He has plenty of songs non fans would recognize, has plenty of material to fill the slot, and he could have a number of combination of guests and it would sound great!

Are you kidding....Paul Simon would get a large enough vote.....in fact I think he would draw in more fans than Tom Petty.
After listening through his stuff on Youtube, he's got a very pleasing sound. I'd definitely check him out if he was there, and if he was the initial lineup, he'd be among those first two or three CD's I'd get.
