^^^I mean, the thing is Smashing Pumpkins towards the end was really the Billy Corgan show. I think Iha brought the harder edge to the band early on that sort of went missing the later years when Corgan became more and more dominant.
You do realize that the only album Billy supposedly ever played everything (save for drums) was Siamese Dream, their second album. That's when it was the "Billy Corgan show". The rest of the albums all had significant contributions from all members. James wrote multiple songs for Melon Collie, but only one made the album. Have you heard any of Iha's work... ever? Songs like "The Boy" (a Pumpkins b-side), "Take Me Down", and even his solo album are all very mellow works.

At one time I REALLY liked the Pumpkins, but they kind of lost their attraction for me. They are a really good band, but I just can't take anymore of Corgan's monster "Rock Star" ego. He steadliy stripped a once great band of their relevance and appeal with his "my way or the highway" attitude. I read somewhere that D'arcy will not be a part of any reunion effort, wich doesn't surprise me all that much. I don't think she can handle him either. Regardless, if they are added to the Roo, I won't be there. *This is just my opinion. I am not trying to offend ANYONE.*
First of all, if you would read an interview or two that Billy has done recently, you'd know he isn't an egotistical maniac anymore. He's mellowed out (sadly, by "finding" [whatever that means] Jesus). Secondly, D'arcy is a useless crack whore, and was never much of a bassist. Melissa Auf Der Mar should play bass in this reunion get up, but rumor around the Pumpkins fan boards is that it'll be Courtney Love... which I would hate, but I'm still going to do anything in my power to see the Pumpkins this summer.
^^^I strongly agree with your assessment of Iha's contributions to SP (his solo album, "Let It Come Down" was a pleasant surprise)... yet I wish you'd give more respect to a man's religious experience. "Finding Jesus" need not be thought of as sad. But that's all I'll say on that subject.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i wish they couldve played bonnaroo, if they were the smashing pumpkins, the originals, even though lolla is a no brainer, but its just billy and jimmy which is still essentially zwan, now i'm hearing courtney love might play bass? corgan has one of the best voices in music and i like the pumpkins more mellow stuff, i hope i get to see that this year
They'll headline Lollapolluza this year, I'd bet. I'm not really disappointed that they won't be at Roo. I'd seriously rather see Zwan, cause I've heard amazing things about their shows.
"It’s not about the money, says Smashing Pumpkins manager Paul Geary re: the band’s forthcoming reunion. “They’ve had some amazingly big offers — some seven figure onces [sic] to play certain shows — and Billy has passed on several because he didn’t think it was the right thing for the band.” Geary also said that he thought it was “unlikely” all four original members of the band would participate in the Pumpkin’s reunion but that Corgan is committed to bringing the band’s music to a younger generation."
Honestly not a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan wouldn't mind checking them out i guess but them not being at Bonnaroo wouldn't hurt my feelings. With Rage, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam it is looking like old Lollapalooza lineups but that isn't terrible i guess.
zwan live WAS a "religious" experience in the best of ways.
and I'd also like to second what was said earlier regarding Iha's contribution to the band (being more melodic and mellow) although I thought he was a nice yin to corgan's yang
(from Pitchfork) Smashing Pumpkins Reveal Album Title, Release Date
Smashing Pumpkins announced via MySpace bulletin this morning that they will release a new album, Zeitgeist, on July 7 of this year. 07-07-07! How'd they land that lucky date? Well kids, it's a Saturday, proving that Billy Corgan, Jimmy Chamberlin, and whoever the hell else is in the band think they are above and beyond the ways of the music industry (most albums come out on Tuesdays, see). Thanks to various reader tips for keeping us posted on this info.
Since we last reported, the Pumpkins revealed two more European festival dates, one at Nickelsdorf, Austria's Nova Rock Festival, and one at Interlaken, Switzerland's Greenfield Festival.
Dates:
06-02 Nuremburg, Germany - Nürburgring (Rock am Park) 06-03 Nuremburg, Germany - Zeppelinfeld (Rock im Park) 06-15 Nickelsdorf, Austria - Nova Rock Festival 06-17 Interlaken, Switzerland - Greenfield Festival

it sounds like that nova rock festival is the place to be...i think dave matthews, pearl jam, smashing pumpkins are all playing there, i'm sure theres more awesome bands, it is a european festival, and they know what they're doing over seas

Nova Rock also confirmed Linkin Park, Incubus, Marilyn manson, Slayer, Papa Roach, Drowing Pool, and a bunch of other Family Values veterans. Considering Pearl Jams history with festivals, I find it suprising that they would choose a festval with this lineup. It's also a questionable decision for the Pumpkins. That festival is a joke. www.novarock.at/
