Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I just thought this would be a fun topic for discussion.
In his interview about three weeks or a month ago, the head of Superfly (or AC, I forget) talked about this year's Bonnaroo, said the lineup would be released by the end of the month (obviously failed,) and said that they were excited because of the surprises that they didn't think anyone else would have.
Anyways, obviously this COULD be referring to the Police but a) they might not have had the Police booked at this point b) they might not have the Police booked now and c) he said surprises, so I'm guessing it's not just the Police and a bunch of jam bands. So who do you think could be included in these surprises/roo exclusives?
Even though it would be a terrible bet, I think Tom Waits would fill that beautifully, as has been much discussed. The Police too would be an exclusive, because I really doubt they play two festies. Who else ya' got?
one point i'd like to make is, with superfly talking about all these GRand Suprises, wouldn't an announcment of the Police reunion just be way too OBvious, i don't see it as much of a suprise to anyone since they have announced their renunion and all (haven't they announced it ?)

Most of the artists i am usually suprised with are the second tier acts. I was so suprised and grateful that Stephen Malkmus would be playing Bonnaroo. I think there will be some big suprises in the middle and lower part of the list. Oh and Tom Waits would be huge.
The Police are this year's Radiohead, there is no way to confirm it, but all signs point to yes, so i wouldn't call it too big of a suprise.

the replacements got back together (sans the dead member) to record some ne wsongs for their new greatest hits album. a replcements reunion at roo would shock and delight

Tom Waits would be a total tallywhacker (in a good way, of course)! A Talking Heads reunion would damn near kill me (it won't EVER happen, i know)! The Mars Volta could definitely pull-off a small stage show this year. I would explode!

or if we fall into a timewarp and end up in the arly 80's
but to be truthful 5150 was my favorite album for a while. id see them if they were going up against modest mouse, beck, and fountains of wayne. thats for sure.
Nice surprises for me would include: The Arctic Monkeys, The Redwalls, Barenaked Ladies, Counting Crows, Golden Smog or Loose Fur... Those aren't my big hopefuls for this year, but they would all be nice surprises.

Yea, I really don't see Counting Crows as out of the question at all. They've never played before, and, honestly, they put on a stellar live show. They're playing jazz fest, and I could definitely see them at Roo as well.
I'd like to see that Zeppelin reunion everyone is talking about.

I actually am not too keen on the Zeppelin idea.
I am not a fan of nostalgia acts and the energy and excitement of Zeppelin on the early 70's absolutely cannot be replicated by these guys 30 years later. The excitement around these types of shows (and you can put The Police, The Who, and even the RATM reunion for coachella) seems to revolve around people being able to say "I saw xxxx" and feel cool. If someone says they saw Zeppelin in 1975 I think that's pretty cool and they are lucky but seeing Zeppelin in 2007 would probably just depress me. You can't go back in time so I always want to see the bands that are current to us now so when I am 55 I can think back on the great shows intheir prime. Phish, Panic, Radiohead, U2, Metallica. . .these are the big guns of our time.
At least with Phil and Friends they are still jamming and each show is different so they can get away with the nostalgia act and still be "fresh".
If Zeppelin wrote new material and played a combo of old and new I'd feel different but I am just not too interested.

Are you kidding me? Old or not, any form of Zeppelin at Bonnaroo would be amazing. Thye may be old, but they are legends for a reason. With the way you think, Neil Young would have been done years ago, and the man is still rocking!

Pavement reunion would delight and shock me.
Pavement would be sick!! I do recall reading an article right after Bonnaroo that quoted Malkmus backstage with Sonic Youth talking about what a blast it was and something to the effect of..."makes me think a Pavement show would be fun"

Malk/Jicks would be straight too...
And the thing about Pavement is that it's not if but when. They've all expressed interest in a reunion. I've heard the year 2009 thrown around in a few interviews, but you have to think they're all looking at what reuniting did for the Pixies (a similarly underappreciated indie band) and might be wondering why not get a little bit of that cake too.

I would love to see them. I've passed up a few opportunities, not knowing how their live shows are. I guess I was afraid of them being bad and ruining their studio work for me. August and Everything After and Recovering the Satellites got me through a really bad break up and are really important to me. After listening to their new live album, I really wish I had seen them.

Neil Young does not fall into the nostalgia act because he continues to put out new music. An old artist who continues to work and create is not living off nostalgia. . .they are career working artists. Dylan is like that too, still making great new music year after year. Zeppelin has nothing new in 27 years.
Legends I agree, but I have marginal interest in reunion acts.
