As far as ranking my favorite years of Bonnaroo, That's impossible! Two many different factors but I Will Say that 02 and 03 being the first two years with such great lineups, DISGUSTING!!!
Every Bonnaroo offers something that you can't believe your seeing, but have to be a part of.

2006 was my rookie year. I didn't make the mistakes a lot of you say you made your first times. I saw a lot of music, and I was even a part of the crowd outside the cinema tent watching the USA Vs. Italy soccer match. I saw everyone I really wanted to see, and even saw some great shows that I never thought to check out until five minutes beforehand. I had an amazing time, and I really can't wait to go back to Roo.
water during the day, beer at night... that is the secret.... and go to shows all day long... you can lay in the back and chill... hey.. the last day of last year i layed and ate pizza during Brother's Past.. laid down and smoked in the back during soulive.... stood up and danced during the streets first few songs... saw malkmus's entire performance and then met phil lesh during matisyahu, and then met the comedians from best week ever while watching sonic youth.
like cheezwhiz, my first year was 06 and I had a great time thanks to inforoo, me and my uncle did pretty well for our first time. THe ice in our coolers didn't melt, we had a great shade set up and I got to see almost every band I went to see. Bonnaroo will definitely be a staple of my summer for years to come.
I have been to 4. Missed the first one it sold out to fast. Each year is more fun than the last. I have got Bonnaroo down to a fine art. Bonnaroo is what I call my walkabout each year. Nothing like disappearing off the face of the earth for 5 days! I already have my ticket purchased for number 5 and the RV is ready to roll.
2005 and 2006 here. And if last year was any indication, i will have even more fun this year. It just keeps on getting progressively better and better.

I've only been to 05', but nothing in the world could stop me from going this year. When i went, although i was absolutly dead at the end, i got A LOT in. I probably saw atleast 15 full shows, then bits of others. Suprisingly i remember it all, because i was pretty enhanced.... the whole weekend. This year i'm going mostly sober though, and want to catch about the same amount of shows, it was really the max you can.

This will be Roo #4 for my buddy Kevin and me. For us 04 had the best line up and the worst weather plus it was our first so we were in wide-eyed wonder. Every year has has it's highlights and we've never been disappointed. We check out all or most of 20-25 bands every year, some new, some old favorites. Once you realized the secret to success is: H2O by day and ETOH by night, it's all gravy!

My wife and I have been every year, and will likely be back in 07. It may sound wierd, but I think Roo '02 saved our marriage. '03 and '04 were by far the most magical, but last year was pretty fantastic as well. Roo is the only major music fest I have bothered to attend; every other fest I look at just doesen't seem to measure up. I can't wait to see what they do this year!
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it
All but the first one for me. I nearly quit my job to go down and try to find a scalper on the eve of Roo, and I really wish I would've in hindsight. I've always had pretty much the same amount of fun and great experiences every year, so I am just going to rank by the music.
2003 was in my opinion by far the best lineup.
2004 had more bands I wanted to see than any year other than my first.
2005 was pretty damn amazing.
2006 had a stellar lineup too, but I guess I've found that for my tastes it has gotten progressively worse. I loved the bands I saw for the most part, had a great time, would never miss it I don't think, I just found a couple times when there wasn't a band I had a real big desire to see, which never happened before.
I'll be missing my first in '07 because my first kid will be born in May (it's gonna be a boy!). I try to talk myself into thinking that '07 couldn't possibly top '06, but some of these prospective lineups make me cringe with jealousy.
My rankings:
1. '06 2. '02 3. '03 4. '04 5. '05
All five were great, the top three were transcendant. The weather got me down a bit in '04 (if I'd have known to catch M. Ward at the time it probably would have changed my weekend), and '05 is last just because my usual crew wasn't with me.
I'm fine with missing '07 for the birth of my firstborn, but if M. Ward, Aesop Rock and TV on the Radio end up in the lineup....I'll be jealous.

Congrats on the kid. My son was born in May '05. Becoming a parent will change your life. You have to make certain sacrifices, but it is worth it 1,000 times over. And look on the bright side...when you go to Bonnaroo '08, you will appreciate the hell out of it (I know I did last year when my wife kept the kid for the weekend!).
