Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I don't know if it's just me, but I really don't understand the attraction. I've been to shows, and yes, they're very good but I don't see anything particularly mindblowing. Am I alone? And if so will somebody please fill me in as to what I'm missing
i wasnt into either show in 05. although the weather didnt help. thats the only time ive seen them. i have friends that swear by em so im waitng to pass judgement. i left the black crowes show at roo and wasnt impressed and wrote them off. but this year at all good they tore the place apart. one of the best shows ive seen. so ill give wsp another chance. i do enjoy alot of their music. just wasnt that impressed at roo.

I dont really get it either. At 05 i probably watched about 30-60 minutes total of all their sets. I understand why people enjoy them, but i dont really understand how they got so huge either.
I'm with all of you, don't see the excitement. I didn't dislike their shows at Bonnaroo (I went to parts of both shows in 05 and all of their show in 03), but I could take 'em or leave 'em.

I've seen them twice - once was front row and I also feel the same way. I ended up leaving my front row seat and going to hang out on the lawn instead because I was just not feeling it. I do LOVE some of their songs, but they don't blow me away with their live shows. Having said that, I would still be happy to see them at Roo
Wow, ya'll give WSP the same reviews I gave Radiohead! I guess its each to his/her own. I especially like the vibe I get at a WSP concert. Having a good dance partner helps too
Sounds to me like no one in this thread has seen them with Jimmy Herring. Which I havent yet either. But JH is one of the best guitarists on the planet.
I'm looking forward to them at Langerado. Their '05 Roo performances left me a little cold, but I've seen a lot of live footage that leads me to believe I was missing something there. A second chance is definitely in order. I have a couple of discs by 'em and enjoy them quite a bit. Definitely a summer time band for me.

widespread is the shit
best live band still touring. it depends on your opinion though, if you aren't into dirty southern rock you'll probably not be into them. but seeing them in an arena is definitely better than at a festival i think. widespread shows need to be LOUD!
and my friend molly makes a great dancing partner at their shows
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
Panic with Herring is ridiculous. I caught the NYE run and Jimmy absolutely tore the place up. He's a fantastic addition with a new style on guitar. They all really enjoy playing with each other too. It's very apparent
I've been up and down with them. I've seen them for over a decade. They always play 2 nights here in Memphis, and I rarely miss it, as that is usually the only gig in town whenever the circus rolls through. I've never been a huge fan, but have seen them over 30 times due to their constant touring in and around this city, as well as multiple stints at Bonnaroo. To me there is much more interesting music going on out there, but they put on a solid rock show. You really need to know the catalog to differentiate the songs, otherwise, live, it just all sounds the same. They have some smokers, and some slower tunes that stroke the heartstrings of the soul. They get a bad rap for being a southern band, which they are. To me they'll never be worth following around the country or even travelling very far to see just them. They just don't do it on that level for me, but there are bands that do do it on that level for me, so I can completely understand the appeal that one may have to follow music around, whatever their band might be. Especially a band like Panic who has a large rotating catalog, an incredible bass player, a virtuoso on guitar, and the desire to take risks with covers as well as improvisation.
You really need to know the catalog to differentiate the songs, otherwise, live, it just all sounds the same.
This has been my number one issue.
Light Fuse/Get Away is the only official live release of theirs that I own and while I love throwing it on for a drive, I have a hell of a time picking out the individual songs. They rock, they can play circles around many other bands, but the way their stuff can all blur together kind of bugs me.

widespread is in the top 5 of the best bands i've seen live, i didn't even see them with houser, i came on late to them, my first shows were roo 2005, those blew me away, i've never seen radiohead, i'm sure they are pretty good, but widespread really does it for me, they are the kings of bonnaroo and the jamband scene with the absence of the grateful dead and phish, and i respect the way that widespread has built their success, unfortunately string cheese incident is making its last run this year, and i feel they belong right below widespread on the jamband scene top artists list, i wish i would of got into them earlier to, i hope either one is at roo this year, it just wouldn't be roo without either
i agree about herring. he jamed with the black crowes at all good and it was amazing. i agree with the post that most of the songs sound so similar is what keeeps me from really getting into it. so i dont know how much jimmy will help that. but hey ill take a wsp show over a kick in the nuts anytime. and i am looking forward to seeing them with herring. id rather see them again at roo then the newly rumored dylan headliner.
I don't really dislike them, I just can't say I've heard anything by them I really liked or that made me want to seek out more music by them. I've heard bits of 3 or 4 shows they've played at 'roo but always ended up leaving early. I guess I've never really given them a fair chance as far as really paying attention and dancing. I'm also not really a fan of the southern rock sound.

...dude, you're all confused. Aren't you talking about My Morning Jacket?
I don't think they're either "blah" or bad... I think they're a great jamband, I just don't really fathom the whole" OH MY GOD, WIDESPREAD PANIC!!! BUST A NUT!!!" attitude. But you know... whatever...
