There has been a lot of talk about tool headlining, and although i havnt been to a concert, so i havnt seen the people who guy, i would definatly say the music fits in at bonnaroo. Their new cd isnt incredibly heavy, and theres really no yelling on it, i think mars volta is heavier than tool for sure. If you think tool is too metal for the roo just check out their newest album 10,000 days. Most of the songs are atleast 6 minutes long, you cant yell for all that time, its really good stuff. Their fanbase is another story though, since i havnt seen it, but i think tool would be an awesome band for headliner, and is almost neccessary after radiohead this year. Sorry to beat a dead horse, but just puttin my thoughts out there.

I would absolutely love to see them there, just because I'd love to see them anywhere. But, as has been pointed out, I don't think they'd mesh well with hippies......at all.
Catch them on their fall tour though. Tickets are going on sale this Saturday for a number of shows.
What people seem to forget, or not realize, is a large portion of the Tool fanbase are the hippies. I have always loved all the Jambands, been to countless Dead, Phish, Panic, etc etc. shows, and I LOVE Tool and always have. Most of the people I know who are into Jamband type music, also love Tool.
I understand they have a whole other type of fan also, but I think if you poll most of the "hippie types" you would find a large amount of them love Tool - because they have an appreciation for good music and talented musicians.
And yes I would love to see them headline Bonnaroo

Maynard (the lead singer) is constantly talking about "prying open your third eye" and mind expansion. I think that's something most hippies could really get behind.
I like many jambands (it's much of what I listen to now), but I'm a metal-head from the 80's. I personally think Tool is the Zep of the 90's and beyond. Progressive time signatures (along with a killer drummer) and top-notch musicianship place them at the top of the heap of new "heavy" music, IMO.

What shows are you talking about? I don't see any new ones on thier site. Street Scene in SD is the only US show I see. Where are these phantom shows you speak of?

I've got to believe they'll add more shows eventually. They only tour once every 5 fricking years, they've got to make it worth it.
After Lateralus came out they had their big tour that hit the major cities but then added another leg that even hit my hometown of Toledo, which NEVER gets big acts. I know they already had that theater tour, but I don't really count that. If a bunch of dates aren't added to this trek, I'd put money on a winter/spring tour.
Nothing close to Nashville either I swear the only good thing that comes near here is Bonnaroo and DMB........
I hope you didn't miss The Black Crowes a few weeks ago at Starwood. The Roots were in town in May. Ryan Adams and Bela will be at the Ryman soon. We don't get a lot, but at least we're not stuck in Oklahoma, Wyoming, Montana, or one of the Dakotas!
I would love to see Tool play live, Aenema is one of my favorite cds of the past 10 years, but Bonnaroo just isn't their type of venue or atmosphere. They're not really a band you'd have fun seeing with 2 days worth of dust caked under your fingernails and in your lungs on a glorified camping trip.
While I agree that many hippies do like Tool (you know, the whole counter culture thing), I think it's Tool that might not really dig on the hippie scene. While they DO have plenty of songs out there about mind expansion, drugs, injustice, etc., they also have a lot of stuff that's more. . . well, violent I guess. Even though most of this hostility is directed toward those who are unfair and unjust, I think the basic "value system" of Tool is very different from those we think of as hippies. The hippie resolution is peace, love and understanding. Maynard would rather see it all wash away, imo.

Got my tickets for the MA show, sure to be a great summer with all the reggae I'm seeing along with: Steely Dan, Roger Waters, 311....damn, the list goes on. Still, I might be willing to trade all these shows for a chance to see Tom Waits. hey bluevelvet, you're lucky, he's stopping in Nashville and not NY or Boston this time...then again a Waits show is not a "good" thing, it's a "great" thing!

Hehe I'm not a Tom Waits fan, but I would trade that for Tool coming to Nashville
