Van Morrison is an absolute legend in my book. I was wondering how the rest of you felt about Van Morrison, and whether or not he has a place at Bonnaroo.
He has a history of outstanding live shows (See Live from San Francisco 1978), and I think he would make a great fit for a late night spot like Dr. John had this year in future years. Thoughts?

I've never really listened to him and I am certainly of the right age group that might enjoy him But if he was at Bonnaroo it would be on my list of shows to see.
I only know of Moondance, but I like it. I think I'd be pretty indifferent to seeing him live, although if he was at Bonnaroo I'd try to make it for his set.

I have never, ever been more let down, or felt more ripped off, than I did after seeing Van Morrison two years ago.
He played with Solomon Burke, who opened, and was AWESOME. Van came out and played for oh, maybe 45 minutes. His voice was terrible, he had an awful stage presence (he barely acknowleged, or even looked at the crowd), there was no encore, and the music was sloppy. Also, tickets were like 75 bucks a pop.
I love his music, but I hope they keep him far, far away from Bonnaroo. He may have been great live in 1979, but 25 years later he sounded like a complete hack; just a waste of my time and money.
same thing occured to me. i had nose bleed seats @ the united center in May, and they were $75 a pop! at that price, i was expecting a full house and an amazing show. well the place was half empty, and his set was barely 1.5 hours long. his backing band was great, but he didn't seem really into the show.
now if he played bonnaroooo, i would def. check him out. a late-night set would be ideal, and if his show started to suck, i would just go watch something else

I've heard nothing but similarly sh*tty stories about his live show. Even when he was in his performing prime, he was a notorious assh*le who never had any real respect for the crowd. I'm nto sure I'd even bother if he showed up at Roo.
Still, Astral Weeks is one of my top 20 albums of all time and Moondance would definitely find a place relatively close to the top of the list, also.

Ive seen Van morrison 3 times fantastic every time! Once in Belfast great show, at the guiness fleagh in cicero (chicago) and at the hollywood bowl. As far as the stage presence comment I find that amusing. He stood still and sang every time. I liked it kind of less is more. not everyone has to run around and do david lee roth karate kicks. I still remember some wankers complaining he didn't play brown eyed girl. Maybe im showin my age . Its too bad some of you had bad experiences, Its hard for me too imagine. "Ordinary everyday people just dont seem to comprehend"

lol, That is a very worn out song man. Hes not steve miller playin the same songs over and over for 30 years . ( sorry steve still love ya) Dont be a wanker (just kiddin dude)
I'll agree to that.. I wouldn't be mad at all if he didn't play Brown Eyed Girl. He has soooooo many other GREAT songs that would make up for it. Sure, BEG is a very, very good song.. but it's definitly not his best. Wasn't even his biggest hit.. I'd rank it about 13th or 14th best among his songs.

i saw van at acl this past year, he headlined friday, the first half of his set was mostly newer country songs, which sucked, van is not a country artist but his lead guitar player is, the second half was much better, a couple covers, the last like 5 songs were the strongest point of the show with moondance, wild night, brown eyed girl, something else i can't remember, and closing with gloria was amazing, i would love for him to at bonnaroo but i doubt it will happen,
Brown Eyed Girl wasn't his biggest hit? than what was?
The answer (stateside) is "Domino" (at #9). "Brown Eyed Girl" was his second biggest hit in the states at #10. But I think it's pretty safe to say that "Gloria" is his most famous song, and the one he'll probably be remembered for when all is said and done.

domino, i keep forgetting about that song, heard it the other day, tupelo honey is my favorite though, does any dave matthews fans think they should cover tupelo honey, listen to that little acoustic solo in there and tell me that doesn't make you think of tim reynolds
