Just got out of michael's (I was dragged out kicking and screaming because I could spend all day and all my paycheck there if left alone), and I got some peacock and pheasant feathers and leather to make my own version of the feather hair extrnsions.. I'll share if they turn out well.
Mine are pheasant. I would love to see what the peacock look like!
Sorry.. Not the best photo because I was using my phone again. I decided to go subtle with the chain of feathers and start them from underneath my layers. I just chained peacock feathers together at alternating angles using little metal findings to attach them to the leather cord. I used the rest of them to make a set of earrings with the pheasant feathers, so I can go with the clip "extension" or the earrings. I checked out the bass pro shop today and they were all out of the long grizzlies... Shocker.. Haha. But they did have rabbit fur that was colored like the grizzly feathers and the guy working there said people were starting to use the fur, too. I found some pictures on line that looked cool, so if you are looking for something different the fur is an option.

That's ADORABLE!! Gold star for you!! I might have a Memorial Day project now! I've been working on tie dye sheets for our canopy today. I love crafts!
Ok crafty ladies. I need your help. I'm making cotton, thigh-high leg flares, but they keep sliding down. I think I need some of that sticky stuff like on thigh high tights. Any idea what that stuff is called and where to get it? I'm definitely open to any other ideas as well. These suckers need to stay in place while hooping.
This might be good. It was the brand used in some of my old dance costumes and things. It is hard to find in chain stores, so you might have to order it online. This stuff really is supposed to be the best clear elastic around. It's got that rubbery feel you are talking about that will help them stay up but it is gentle enough to use on baby diapers and things so you won't chafe.
Ooh, nice job on the peacock feathers! I went to Michaels & Joann Fabrics last week looking for saddle feathers (of course the didn't have any!)...but they both had peacock & a few other wider kinds...I wasn't sure what those would look like so I skipped it but now I'm rethinking that! I might grab a few an start playing while I'm waiting for my others to arrive from ebay. Thanks Annabelle - a friday for you!
Yes! It will melt. I kept my deodorant on my cooler. I usually keep makeup limited to lip gloss. It sweats off by mid-morning. You may wanna keep your makeup bag in the cooler in a waterproof bag.

And thanks for all the compliments ladies!
Thank you! I need to go to Jo-annes today, so I will ask them about it. Otherwise, I will definitely be ordering from that site.

i went to a microburn this weekend and learned how to make some adorable "dreads" that are easy and fun
you will need one or more colors of fat or fluffy yarn, regular hair elastics or twisties and smaller tiny hair elastics. you can do without the tiny ones - see belwo
just take several colors or one color of "fat" or "twisted" yarn. not regular yarn althuogh that would make regular colored extensions.
decide how long you want your dreads to be and cut many lengths in TWICE that length.
now take the group of dreads that you want in one area of your hair and place them through a hair elastic so that half of the length is on each side of the hair twistie. this makes the dread the length you desire and doubles the thickness.
now just take a really reallyl tiny hair twistie and secure the group braids around the bigger hair elastic so that it doesnt move on the bigger hair elastic. it will look like your bigger hair elastic has a ponytail attached to it.
if you dont have any of the tiny twisties then just take another piece of yarn or take on end of the existing dread and tie the braid tightly at the base of the area it croses the big elastic. this is so it wont move around or fall off now just attach the bigger eleastic to your own hair just the same way you do a regular hair elastic.
you can do two large dreads or you can go wild and do many smaller ones.
this is VERY VERY VERY easy to do. a girl showed me in five minutes and i did my own and i have no idea what i was doing. ..just remember that the fat or fluffy yarn will look more like dreads when you get them in your own hair. and they really do look good once you put them in your hair - they look like they are briaded in.
Going back to my thought about curling feathers.. I know feathers are naturally straight lol, I just think it would look silly in my curly hair. I think I'll just hold out for now.
My new concern is tanning! This spring has been SO mild here.. I haven't been in the sun at all. I'm even paler than normal for me (and I'm normally ghostly white.) I'm considering an airbrush tan. I know people probably won't care about my white legs, but *I* do. Has anyone done this before? I don't want to be orange.
I am always pale. I just don't tan and I have problems with the sun. I've tried just about evey tanning product out there. Since more and more celebs are going fair skinned, I don't worry about it like I used to. The very best color results I have ever gotten are from the airbrush tans that a trained person in a day spa does (be wary of where you go to get this done- not everyone at small tanning salons is as well trained as they should be). The second easiest way, but not neccesarrily the second best looking tan is the magic mist booths. One of the major benefits of the airbrush tan over the misting booth is the color selection. Tanners aren't a one shade does all, and a professional can pick the best shade for you. The magic mist may not be the right shade, and it is sort of drippy, so you have to be extremely careful with you hands, feet, knees and elbows.. And anywhere there is enough of the product to drip down your body, but it overall does a good job. Then you have lots and lots of NO NO WORD!!! store self tanners. The gradual self tanners are my favorite (jergens if you can stand the smell- I apply at night). Sublime glow gel is one of my favorite one and done self tanners. The color is a nice golden tan with pretty and very subtle shimmer, and it goes on evenly. Banana boat has some good products, too. My favorite product hands down- taking into consideration color, scent, and evenness is aveeno, but it is hard to find it in my area.
The problem with self tanners at a place like bonnaroo is that because you are dyeing you skin, it will tend to come off as your skin cells shed. In a normal showering everyday kind of environment you can exfoliate and keep your color even. At bonnaroo you can't control your skin regimen as well. On top if that you will be sweaty and walk around so much that things will not rub on you evenly. Backpack or purse straps, shoes, even shorts, undergarments and socks can rub the color off your body unevenly. The results of this can look anything like a natural tan line to a full on disaster, and it can turn your clothes temporarily tan. If you don't have experience with your skin and a specific product bonnaroo is probably not the best place to try it out. You are taking a gamble, and it could turn out just fine, or it could turn out awful. I wish I could tell you there is a product that is fail safe, but there are just too many variables. Airbrushing at a pricey salon is probably you best bet if you moisturize every day, but all products work similarly and have the same drawbacks.
I'm going to go pasty pale I think. My legs will just be like a daytime glow stick.
I've done the in store spray tan before, and now do my own (years of field work = really tan arms and white legs). You can get aerosol self-tanner and it's really easy to use. It looks totally natural on me, but not everyone's skin is the same.
A quick note on self tanners. If you get an orange spot, magic eraser will take it off.

Wow, thanks! I didn't even think about it rubbing off. With my luck it would look awful. I guess I don't have very much time to experiment, so I'll end up going pasty pale, too.
I'm thinking of skipping the long hippie dresses that I am accustomed to wearing at Roo. For some reason I feel like either wearing shorts or really short dresses this year. I really want one of those little shorts rompers. I have no fashion budget though so I might hit up the thrift stores and see what I can throw together.
Yeah.. It could work out just fine, but if it doesn't then you might feel even more self conscious. I think that feminine dresses and skirts are more flattering than shorts for fair skin.. You look dainty and feminine like a porcelain doll, but I feel weird wearing shorts because I think of super tan legs under daisy dukes when I think shorts. So I stick to skirts and dresses and just accept that with my red hair, freckles and green eyes I was just never meant to be a bronze goddess.
Nope, bronze goddess will never be a word used to describe me. I embrace the paleness and SPF 80. Honestly, I have absolutely no desire to be tan. As for self-conciousness, not a problem. I just wanna be comfortable and in my long dresses I just end up hiking them up all day.
Of course, in long dresses I have less area to apply sunblock
So how many of you ladies are going to the brunch? I know there is a thread for it, but I was curious who of you I may see there...
And I'm so considering socks with crocs.. I know it is like socks with sandals, but they have those little tiny no show socks that would help if I end up blistered... I've always been surprised how much socks help blisters.. I used to get bad blisters with zoomers... Those tiny blue flipperish things people use swimming laps.. And socks would make it to where I could complete my swim. So my question is would you find it terribly strange if you saw someone's socks peak out just barely if at all with lady crocs? Normally I wouldn't even consider the combo, but I want my feet comfy.

Target had some cute rompers this week! I'm a tad too old for them, plus I stress about how hard they'd be to manage in the portapotties, so it's sundresses for me!
Has anyone worn the Chacos' flip flops for an extended period? I have the sandals, but they're on their last leg, even though I wore them only 4 or 5x (thanks, friend's dog!). I thought they were ugly to begin with, so I'm considering the flip flops, but I need something with support. Thoughts?
Sass, I never even thought about pora potty logistics! Forget that idea. I am going to look for a few things today....really I just need a good shoe. I had that air cast all last summer from a bad ankle injury and it still hurts like hell. Tennis shoes would be best but too hot. I need some ankle support though.

You have time to try it out, first, if you do it this week. Then, if it looks great, you can get a second layer before Roo.
I can't decide if I like the romper trend or not, but if you do and really wanted to wear one, Ross had some by Energie for like $6... They had a false tank built into them.. It's hard to explain, but I had thought about removing the false tank and putting a real one under it for the portapotties. That way you could skip the getting naked to pee part.
