yeah i agree. people like to hate on 21 a lot but ive been really pleased with their stuff. i dont buy my basics there but they have a lot of nice things. i think you do have to keep sizing in mind with them. i almost feel like if you are thin you can wear any of their sizes even xl because of the way their stuff hangs on the body.

I love it there! I don't know where else I could go spend $50 or 60 and come home with a couple dresses, some jewelry, and a few more things! Their dresses are getting so cute and I might need to buy a couple for Bonnaroo. They're pretty lightweight and comfy.
If any of you ladies want to stock up on cute Old Navy dresses, their friends and family 30 percent off sale is coming up March 17-20 in their stores and also online. Here is a link for the coupon. You can either print it out and use it or use the coupon code online.
I also got a card in the mail advertising an upcoming 25 percent off sale on all dresses. You'll need a coupon for in-store only, but these shouldn't be hard to come by--check on retailmenot.com and nose around a little bit. That promo starts on the 25th for people with old navy cards and on April 7th (I think) for those who aren't cardholders.

There were SOOO many cute dresses at Old Navy this weekend. Didn't work out for me (their cut is just not quite right in my case) BUT they had some great options for people who are less hard to fit. Lots of cotton gauze stuff too which is a dream in the heat.

I know flip flops are blech for Bonnaroo but on Black Friday I bought like five pair of Old Navy's flip flops for THIRTY CENTS A PIECE. I'm not a fan of the new style with the little bumps though.
Thanks for the how-to plasticpepper!! I'm not very crafty when it comes to making clothes but I think I'm going to try it. I also bought tie-dye supplies today for a couple sheets (for our campsite) and a couple shirts. Found great lightweight tanks at Rue 21 and Old Navy today for only $5 each. And Old Navy had a ton of other cute stuff that would be great for Roo!
Hey, I've been lurking in this thread for a little bit, but this is my first time posting, so hey! I just wanted to start off by saying thanks to everyone, the information here is really useful.
I have one that has a really excellent tie dye and I love the feel of the fabric but the year I wore it to Roo it drove me crazy because it kept dragging in the mud or I would step on it while walking. I also prefer shorter skirts in general. Recently I've been pulling the waistband over my boobs, belting it in the waist and wearing it as a dress, and I thought I'd just ask if anyone had any other suggestions.
Emmy, I wouldn't wear anything too long at Roo because, yes, the ends will probably drag in the mud. You could definitely wear it as a dress though!
Ladies, I am so excited I had to share so ya'll will know the sew-in did some good. I just had my first adventure with a seam-ripper! I took the seams out of a sewed-on belt on a dress I got (I didn't like it) so it would be beltless. I am beyond proud of myself!

you could tie it up on one side so that it would be shorter all around. gather a bit of the skirt in two places and bring those pieces together and secure with a hair tie/band . can you roll the waistband??
you could also sew a piece of ribbon on the left and the right side of the bottom of the skirt. now sew a piece of ribbon up high on the right and the left side of the skirt. when you wear it you could tie the two pieces together so that the skirt comes up a bit on each side (tying the right bottom to the right top etc) making the entire skirt shorter without ruining the skirt.

also. i think flip flips are fine for roo - you just want to take some extra shoes in case of rain/mud or incase you need more support at some point. i have to swap out shoes at roo to rest my feet. i have some sandals that have really rough massage bumps in them. i cant wear them to walk in because the bumps are really big but im telling you....10 minutes walking around in those and my feet are refreshed and ready to go! by all means take the flips!

you could also get some novelty pins and pin the bottom up in several places along the bottom so that it would make a scalloped bottom. im not sure that my descriptions are working but id focus on pulling the bottom up in a way that does not ruin the skirt for future wear but which creates an attractive "bunching" of the fabric. luckily broomstick skirts are generous enough in material that i think you can do this without sacrificing the comfort.
Shoes.... Anyone try the croc ballet flats tracking through the mud? I want to buy a pair of gold ballet flats to wear with everything, but I'm not sure if the ballet flats work as well as those ugly ugly original crocs.
And maybe I would wear the ugly ones if I could get band pins to put in the holes like they make for Disney characters and things...
belltwala1 your descriptions are clear, lol. Thanks for the ideas, I've tried rolling it up and pins but the ribbon idea sounds like it would work pretty well. I'll have to test that out when I have time.
Even the Forever 21 sports bras are nice! I really like them. Just beware, anyone buying from F21, of their sizing. Everything is so inconsistent. I have some stuff in XS/S an then bought a top a few years back and I had to buy it in large, hahaha.
this is SOOOO true! i am actually wearing a small dress right now from them... but yesterday i wore a large shirt! so funny.
as to what someone else said, people do hate on forever21 but i don't care. i can always find something to fit my sense of style and it is just so inexpensive! of course it isn't the best quality, but the price makes up for it.
i ordered a new hat from there a couple of days ago... i am so eager for it to come!

If you have narrow feet I don't think they'd stay on very well. Haven't tried them in the mud, but, I wear the ballet flats for work. I have pretty narrow feet so they slide off easily with and without socks. They would be really easy to clean up, though if they did get covered in mud.

WELL - THANK YOU to all the ladies who enjoy the Rootu! (Thanks for posting the pic DT - you are right, Im not shy ) Im actually about to delve into making a fantastical amount of RooTus for my Etsy page. So if any of you non-crafty ladies are interested in purchasing - let me know. Since this will be my first go at them Im not looking to make a ton of money - so they'll likely be at cost. In fact, if anyone is REALLY interested, shoot me a PM with the colors you'd like - so I"ll try to get the right tulle when I head out for the "big stocking-up" purchase.
I would also like to comment on Forever 21 - I agree that people like to hate on them (see my post in the Sasquatch proboards...) but for the price????? They have PERFECT festival clothes. I mean - $15 for a dress that is super cute - and if you get it all disgusting at Roo, I have no prob washing it and using the fabric for craftin'. Or just tossing it. Their stores trip me out - my OCD flares in a not so good way - but the website is easy to navigate. AND - if you buy stuff that ISNT for festivals, and you take care of it, it can last! I have 2 or 3 shirts from there that are still kicking it after 3 years.
JHO!!! Im so proud of you and your ripper! I am guessing you removed the belt from the brown dress???? YOU GO little miss sewer!
OH! I forgot too - I have a few ladies who've requested pins, And iM sorry I just havent gotten them out yet. I will make a deliberate effort to get those sent tomorrow!!!

Also meant to welcome EMMY! Love it when the lurkers come out!
AND - the F21 bandeau bras - I bought about 7 of these last year. Im on the larger end of 34C and they are wonderful. I wear them over a real bra for under low cut things in non-boob atmospheres (work, etc) bc then you arent dealing with 2 layers (tank and then shirt). Im mega hot natured so they're great for that. In the summer or at fests, or at things that are boob-appropriate, they come with cups so I've worn them sans bra. That's a big deal for someone with boobs that should be reigned in! I highly recommend them.

I wore a couple maxi dresses last year to Bonnaroo and they do trail in the mud if too long, but I really liked it for evening. During the day I found it too hot because the breeze couldn't get through. My maxi dress had a full skirt so I knotted at like knee-height on both sides and it pulled the skirt up while still giving it flow.
I love the idea of pulling it up and wearing with a belt as a strapless dress!

I'm a makeup artist... I just don't see how I'm gonna make it without at least a little bit.. I wouldn't feel like myself... BUT I do also have common sense... foundation??? bronzer?? any form of powder? ew no.. it'll look gross, feel gross and make your skin gross! eyeshadow??? totally unnecessary. all I can really see myself wearing is my hardcore nars mascara and some waterproof eyeliner... hot pink or some kind of fun lipstick and of course filling in my brows cause i just cannot go a millisecond without them.
thinking I may bring glitter or something fun too... just in case!

my friend wore the Mary Jane ones and loved them. They're not as clunky as the originals, but still have a strap over the top of your feet so they stay on

I don't post much in here (have I ever?) but I would LOVE a pin! If it wasn't for this thread I would have had no idea how to dress for my first Roo! This will be my 3rd Roo and I still read this thread everytime I am here. Can't really see me wearing a TuTu but at least I will be able to spot some of you in the crowd
I'm still trying to decide what shoes to wear. I've thought about the maryjane crocs too but I've never worn any crocs so I'm not sure how I'd like them. I've also thought about the Sanuks (the shoes and the yoga mat flip flops) and these Merrells... www.merrell.com/US/en-US/Product.mvc.aspx/22903W/0/Womens/Lorelei-MJ?dimensions=0
I wore flip flops the entire time last year and I was comfortable but my feet were so gross by the end of the day. Any feedback?
