they weren't gonna get Nick Cave or St Vincent anyway
They weren't going to book Nick Cave because he appears to work exclusively with AEG and it doesn't look like he's doing any festivals next year, at least until after the April/May tour. (He could play weekend 1 at Coachella, a few days before the Boston tour opener. That would make sense, since it's AEG/Goldenvoice.)
Boston Calling has already booked St. Vincent twice, and they'll probably book her again. Personally, I couldn't care less if they book her. To me, she's a phenomenally talented guitarist who makes music that doesn't move me at all. Just put someone I want to see more on the other end of the grounds, and I'm fine.

Soccer Mommy announced a late winter/early spring tour for next year, and there's no Boston area date, despite NYC and Philly shows. She seems like someone that Boston Calling would put on Blue at 5 or 6 pm.

I’ve come to realize that bands who skip Boston on a tour months before BC don’t usually come back for the fest, but this particular case is interesting because her Europe tour ends in Poland the day before the Friday of BC

yee, thats what also influenced that post. plus i believe BC is one of the few livenation festivals she hasnt played at yet. the whole skip boston thing was a better marker for 2019 and before but sometimes it applies now
i think Jack White will be doing the festival circuit again, and will probably headline BC again. new album getting great reviews (i think it's really good), plus he's gonna have to make up for the money left on the table by doing these small venue pop-up shows somehow, right?

imo he will sub, he’s shown recently that he’s willing to take sub spots and he just doesnt have headliner level pull anymore, his last standalone tour he headlined agganis arena, which is on par with The National, QoTSA, King Gizz etc
Whoa, I just checked their site and they wrote "See you in 2025". No dates or references to Memorial Day weekend or Harvard Athletic Grounds. I wonder if this signals a change in dates or location.

No Slowdive, Soccer Mommy, American Football etc unless they come back after Something in the way fest. Massive L by Boston Calling, all those bands would be perfect for BC. I have a feeling they will get like Justin Timberlake or Shawn Mendes this year based on SA lollapalooza and the fact that they booked Ed Sheeran last year.

i just want them to book Olivia Rodrigo. would be by far best case scenario for a pop star given current options

Can take Soccer Mommy off the lock list and move her to most likely out - she's one of the headliners for Something In the Way festival at Roadrunner and performing on February 1st.
That also means you can take Slowdive, American Football, Balance and Composure, Fiddlehead, Mannequin Pussy, Militarie Gun, Enumclaw, Wishy, Ovlov and all of the other acts for the festival off any perspective BC list.
Would have helped if I read a few posts above.
You can also put Maya Hawke, Joy Oladokun (although probably too soon to return) and Geordie Greep (former lead singer of black midi) on the out list as they just announced shows in Boston for 2025.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
It would be too soon to bring him back, anyway, after 2023.
I've got to admit that Boston Calling has always had a sixth sense for booking artists who get much bigger within a year or two of playing the festival, or in two recent cases, blow up big time between the time they're booked and the festival dates.

Artists lower on the poster for SITW could still be in play -- they've booked artists before who had opened for somebody else in town a few months earlier...Chappell Roan, for example.
I half-jokingly suggested this earlier, but given who's unavailable and who could sell a ton of wristbands, a Noah Kahan - Hozier - Chappell Roan top line makes a lot of sense. What's also very likely is that there will be a couple of ubiquitous festival headliners doing what Foo Fighters and Stevie Nicks have done the last two years: raking in the festival headlining dollars at the precise moment when they're just starting to become a little bit less popular than they were a few years ago. Boston Calling seems like they'd jump on a headliner or two in this category.

MJ Lenderman's spring tour wraps up in mid-May and then resumes again in mid-June. It could be some well-deserved time off, or it could mean that they're going a few festivals in that window. We'll see.
