Hozier by a mile
To acknowledge my bias, I've listened to a ton more Hozier than Noah.
In my opinion they're not even really comparable except the instrumentation they use and their long brown hair.
Noah Kahan is a folk pop artist. He makes perfectly acceptable 4 chord songs with wistful folk lyrics and it makes sense that people like it.
But Hozier is much more comparable to like, Florence & the Machine or Bon Iver. His music is not particularly simple - whether in instrumentation, composition, production. Not to mention it pulls from a huge range of genres. Also his writing is delicious and sexy and earthy.

this is a good defense. and it actually tracks something in my personal musical taste about hozier and florence and bon iver. they are all artists whom i respect without reservation but also rarely listen to (except for bon iver's vocal performance on Taylor Swift's "Exile" whew so good). they all have obvious talent and skill, and there is a complexity and care put into their music but for me it just doesn't add up to anything particularly... interesting isn't the right word, i guess what i'm looking for is entertaining? or i say it too much but a lack of emotional connection.
while i can't claim to be a noah kahan fan really, the simplicity and clever lyricism and melodic shamelessness of "Stick Season" is more appealing to me than anything i've heard from the other three artists. but i'm not sure he has replicated that in any of his other songs.
