That's dumb. I didn't go in 2023, so with the camping now separate from the Centeroo ticket, I'm struggling to see what the advantage is in having VIP over GA+ now.
Upcoming Shows: 11/8 - Goose @ The Andrew J. Brady Center 11/13 - Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros w/ The Wolfpack & The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall 2/14 - Alan Walker @ The Fillmore Detroit 4/15 - Ben Folds w/ The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra @ Cincinnati Music Hall

You sometimes get preferential treatment at the pit lines. You get to eat a couple of not so delicious meals of gruel at the Thursday welcome party and then Crunch Brunch. Centeroo Lounge 12-1am and 11-12 on Sunday (AC). There's a braid and glitter salon you can get all primped up at.
Then you have the viewing areas:
The Mound at the WHAT Stage
Elevated viewing from a grassy hill, located stage right of the WHAT Stage. 30 minutes prior to first set until end of last set Includes a full-service bar with beverages for purchase Accessible via Centeroo - look for the entry portal to the right of the food stalls by The Mound Lawn chairs available on a first-come, first-served basis
WHICH Stage
Private area near the front of the stage, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Hours: During set times Entry from back of viewing area next to the ADA platform - if looking at the stage it is on the left side.
Is this worth hundreds more than GA+? I'd say no. I didn't think it was worth it the one time I did it, and those tickets were like $550.

Last year, the only really nice perk of VIP was close viewing for Which Stage, and the short cut through the VIP lounge. Seriously, at this point it is the weakest upgrade in the history of Music Festivals.

When it was tied to the camping, it was worth it to me due to the easy access to Centeroo, never needing to use a Port-a-Potty, access to air conditioning in Centeroo and at the campsite, etc. Now, it seems GA+ will get me what I need in Centeroo going forward. I'd much rather try for pit at What and Which than use the VIP areas, though by the end of the day on Sunday, the Mound is pretty appealing.

I had a great spot on the mound for Paramore and Foo Fighters, but realistically you have to be strategic to get good spots on the mound.
This year, Im just doing Moon Colony for camping proximity and a GA pass. Although the price for proximity camping isnt necessarily a bargain at this point.

I wasn't gonna do moon colony this year with the price increase until I saw the centeroo entrance on the camping map. It sucked being camped close and then having to trek all the way around to the arch.
Are the food vendors in the same places each year or are they jumbled
Some of it changed when they opened up WITW and stopped hamageaddon. Trucks have been in the same place last couple years. I don’t know if every vendor is in exactly the same place, and usually there is a little bit of turnover. Can’t wait to find out what ‘the best food I’ll have all year’ is going to be. Diet is different so be more looking toward vegetarian options which isn’t something I’ve actively sought out in the past. Plus there seems to be a focus on more food in the plazas. I don’t know if it’s appreciably different but at Groop last year they had a couple breakfasts.

With the whole decoupling concept, it's not the perk it used to be. I still greatly enjoy the Which Stage viewing (it's nice to be able to just walk up when an act is starting and get up close), and last year the Centeroo lounge served as a great viewing area for That Tent, especially during afternoon sets. 3post1jack1 and I just chilled on some chairs during Jupiter & Okwess in the shade while giving each other foot massages.
The hill at the What Stage is nice if you are ok with just chilling off to the side. I've made it a yearly tradition to just chill up there during the Sunday headliner (probably not happening this year as I'll want to be closer for Fred), but it's probably the worst main stage viewing area of any festival I've had VIP passes for.
The access into Centeroo is a huge benefit, it's nice never having to wait to get in especially when I see how brutal the GA line can be on Friday around noon.

agree with all this, especially the foot massages which were very nice.
it's definitely not a good deal, but i'm doing VIP again this year because i do so much less live music and music festivals than i used to so it's easy to justify the minimal comforts the upgrade provides. the VIP centeroo lounge location is really primo now, i'm frequently walking through that area so easy to pop in and use the bathrooms or just take a few minutes in the AC to recharge. and as you mentioned having it be a low key VIP viewing area for That is nice. it's actually kind of like the What Hill in that it's far from an ideal viewing position but you can sit on a stool and take a load off for a bit if it's an act you don't need to be close up for.
I do like the What Hill for the different perspective it provides, it's cool to have a little elevation, gives you a good view of the crowd:
i'll frequently start a What Set on The Hill and then make my way into the crowd for better sound.
Which pit access is fantastic and probably the best benefit, though highly dependent on scheduling. priority line for centeroo access is nice, though i typically only use it once a day because once i'm in centeroo i'm usually in for the rest of the day.
basically i just repeated everything you said in different words. the benefits of VIP aren't good enough for me to recommend it, they are just good enough for me.

Yeah, unnecesarily fencing everything off to the point it was done was midly annoying and seemed completely pointless. Giving moon colony a dedicated entrance would be a great way to sell those tickets and it would justify their price a bit more.

Wait there wasn't the back entrance last year? We take that way in always that shoots you out right by the mound?

If there was, I couldnt find it. I had moon colony and VIP and from what I saw there wasnt one.
1. Between Say She She and the PL / Nation of Language slots.
2. Between Mdou Moctar and the Key Glock / Shy FX slot. 4 hours of nothing.
I can't harp on the early Thursday one too much... I do legitimately enjoy walking around some and there aren't really any opportunities for me to do so on Sat - Sun.
That Friday gap is insane though. Especially considering that there are 19 shows from this lineup that I'd really like to see but lose to conflicts (I can see many of them as partials, but I hate that).
Thursday probably Sid > Durand but maybe camp.
Friday LYNY > Hamdi > Faye or GCJR > maybe see Dominic Fike so we can get pit or super close for Khru
I have the same 2 gaps in my schedule also.
Thursday , Im checking out Ocie Elliot , then maybe a little Sid before heading back to camp. Pre-Party for PL, and get in to get a pit spot around when NOL begins. Don't mind this gap at all b/c it gives me a chance to get ready for PL.
I agree that Friday is WAY more brutal. I have nothing after Bonny Light until Shy FX at 745pm, so I don't know what Im doing. I know we will be planning our "when to leave Shy FX to get Khuangbin pit" stuff, but a very brutal 4 hrs of nothing.
I still would rather have the Friday 4 hrs of nothing rather than the 1 1/2 hrs of nothing after IDLES, waiting for PL Sunrise. THAT will be brutal.

My brother keeps talking about Diplo...sigh If only Idles started 30-45 minutes later.

i got nothing between Say She She and Pretty Lights. Ferris Wheel/Fist Fight probably.
between Mdou Moctar and Shy FX i'll wander around centeroo a bit but then catch Hamdi, he has kind of an old school dubstep sound, i dig a few of his tracks. and Jessica Audiffred (standard americanized dubstep i think but i'll look at the lights and enjoy the bass). maybe pop over to Faye Webster for the meme.

nope. It was fully fenced off. and they moved the moon colony showers over by where the back entrance to the mound was too. To make matters worse, they had fencing that went down broadway on the north side of moon colony. from where we were camped, we had to basically head towards WITW, then double back to go all the way to the arch. added almost a half mile to our trek. We couldn't get there til thursday mid afternoon, so we would have been camped way further away if we just did GA, so it could have been worse. but logistically made no sense why they set it up like that.

when you pull in this year, let the volunteers know you aren't just any regular schlub staying in moon colony, you are the HOST of inforoo brunch 2024. they'll give you a premium camping spot then near the arch entrance.

Yeah but anyone could say that. How will the volunteers know he's the REAL Inforoo Brunch Host? Can we make an ID badge?

Im curious now that they have Moon Colony on the other side of East Broadway, if they will fill that portion up first, or the portion closer to the stage first. Last year, I came in early Thursday and so I was basically right by WITW. Im coming in a hair earlier this year, and am hopeful to be a little closer to the arch this time around.
Does Platinum still have the ability to enter through into the VIP mound?
