A fun third horror of this whole thing is watching Americans with exactly 0 stake playing moral olympics. Hope everyone is enjoying the adrenaline rush after you get an ideological smackdown on some other terminally online person.
Don’t have an opinion: apathetic typical uninformed American

just wanna apologize for being a dick. The core of what I said resonates as true to me, but there's obviously a middle ground between the two categories above which I feel was a pretty good summary of my post lol. Not my place to judge how any individual reacts to the horrors of the modern world being shoved in our face 24/7
in brighter news it seems like US pressure got Israel to turn back on the water. hopefully they don't bomb the infrastructure into it not working, but that's a good thing

From what I’m reading, they are turning the water back on in South Gaza only.
North Gaza does not have water.
It’s also a little hard to convince 1M Palestinians in North Gaza to agree to forced relocation to South Gaza, when that place doesn’t have water and is also getting bombed.

"We turned the water back on like you asked. But its not our fault that missle hit a distribution point. 🤷🏻♂️"

not to sound too glib but in politicking small steps are still steps.
just in comparison how we handled our shit w Afghanistan/Iraq, Israel would be better off small scale targeting leaders of the movement based on intelligence vs large scale bombings so hopefully whatever pressure we're applying shifts that focus.
ideally biden and co aren't listening to the grahams of the world and looking to push that scale of action. whether or not Israel does that is another issue, but it does make me feel better as a US citizen that, that sort of pressure is being applied.
Over 700 Palestinian children exterminated by Israel in just a week. Many more to come. The beheaded babies brigade so prominent on here at the start has gone strangely silent.
One person (not me) here made this claim in the politics thread, after the uncorroborated report came out across multiple news outlets. One. Why are you trying to make it sound like that was some sort of hill many people were trying to die on. And again, we know that babies were murdered in cold blood. Does it really matter if they were beheaded?
The atrocities we have seen unfold over the last week are disgusting, full stop.
Since this will probably circle back around I'll go ahead and give a response.
First off, it doesn't change the fact that it's an atrocity. Even if none of the deaths were intentional and it all occurred in the fog of war(I have my doubts from the history of Hamas and similar groups), there's no excuse. At the very least Hamas was knowingly targeting civilians either to kill them or to kidnap them.
Why it matters is because of it's use as propaganda. Which you seem to understand in other instances. Let's think of something from our history. Say something documented and true... the US killing children with bombs for years in Vietnam vs The My Lai massacre. The personal brutality of the actions at My Lai were more shocking to the world. The anti-war movement grew in response to this being uncovered.
For a couple days the 40 decapitated babies story was a major focus of people's outrage and used as justification for the ongoing onslaught against the people of Palestine. The large majority of whom had zero to do with the attack. Something our media does a fucking terrible of making clear. Now would most of this have happened regardless of the media and some leaders repeating unproven allegations? Certainly. That doesn't make it any less of an example of sensationalism for the purpose of getting the masses enraged and therefore thinking less critically about the military actions taking place. Actions that the citizens of the US help pay for with over 3 billion a year in military aid, etc.
Maybe people wouldn't be so adamant about it if Israel hadn't have sunk the entire Gaza Strip into a fucking humanitarian nightmare within a couple days time. But it's a great example of the media manufacturing consent and getting the public to go along with their insanity. And it's frankly just shitty journalistic practice regardless of sides. Just being a mouthpiece for the Comms of any country in wartime is fucking dumb.

Your points are all fair and valid, I agree and understand why that type of sensationalist reporting is dangerous. I'll point out that the propaganda machine is currently working overtime on both sides, although we're seeing a lot more of it from the Israeli side via American media outlets.
Specifically in reference to the post I was responding too, it felt like gabfrab was overstating or exaggerating how much that report was actually used in the discourse of conversation on this message board. One poster mentioned it in defense of Israel (several times) in the politics thread, I don't think that constitutes a "brigade", and I personally felt like I was getting lumped into an argument that I never tried to make.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Another apparent air strike hit the Rafah Crossing. Damaging the road.
There are trucks right there on the Egyptian side waiting to deliver aid. Israel had told the US and Egypt there would be an exchange of aid for refugees with dual citizenship.

This country is so absurd. lmao. Liberals spending time attacking their left instead of actually calling for a total ceasefire. While Iran is strait up saying regional attacks WILL begin if the humanitarian crisis isn't dealt with soon. They are saying Hezbollah will fully join basically. Israel knows this. They aren't evacuating northern settlements on accident. At the moment it's a threat but public pressure will build in Egypt and Lebanon for sure. Israel can't fight a two-front asymmetrical war. Guess who's up to bat if they are dumb enough to try?
The Dems should have been calling for de-escalation the moment this was obviously getting out of hand. Like the day all the basic needs of civilians were cut off to 2 million people. But instead they had internal memos specifically forbidding them from that word. Fucking worthless as always.

Just a reminder, The White House said it was disgraceful and repugnant to ask this guy for a ceasefire. We love our Libs doing democracy don’t we folks?

God fucking damn. Well, if anyone has ever wondered what the brink of a regional war in the Middle East felt like. Welcome to it.
“At least 500 killed in Israeli air strike on Gaza hospital: Health Ministry The Health Ministry in the Gaza Strip says at least 500 people have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a hospital in the besieged coastal enclave.”. - Al Jazeera
i just..........really dont know what to fucking say at this point. that tweet from the Israeli prime minster is beyond reprehensible, like he is literally making Trump look like a not-that-racist, not-that-bad guy in comparison. i am full of so much rage right now.

Yeah, this is gonna unfold in something bigger. Gaza is never getting back like it once was, not even the open prison it has already been for over a decade..
Iran and loads of other Arabic countries ready to jump the gun and all of them Western countries taking the side of Israel whilst defending Ukraine. Hypocrits.

You lost me on the bolded part. I don't get what's hypocritical with the responses or whether they are even comparable. Russia attacked Ukraine (plenty of soft-civilian targets early) and whose current government is hostile to all of the western governments (except perhaps Hungary) and represents a legitimate threat to free countries within Europe. Hamas attacked Israel, primarily innocent civilians. Russia bombing Ukraine and Hamas launching thousands of missiles and crossing the border into Israel to take hostages are the sparks for both current escalations. They're also unrelated events and circumstances except for some of the alliances involved.
Were you making a point about the atrocities both citizenries (Gazans and Ukrainians) are facing and that in some way the support/responses should be the same?
