Both Allison Russell and Sylvan Esso are opening dates for him very shortly after, so either could be in play, as well.
Yes, the dates line up and I would love Childers, but he was just here in August. Isn't this just an extension of the current tour?
Would love Allison Russell as well, but she's performing at a festival in North Adams later this month and then at The Sinclair in December.
North Adams might as well be NYC, it's so far away, so i don't think that rules Allison out. And even with the Sinclair show, anything booked around here for later this year won't really impact someone doing a festival circuit and coming back next May. This lineup will get announced in January after those shows have all happened, so i dont think there would be any concern.
I didn't realize that when Childers was here last month it was just 1 night at the Pavilion. Maybe he wouldn't be headliner-level after all..?? Idk him well enough to have a strong feeling about how big of a draw he actually is around here.

Chance The Rapper did 1 night at the pavilion in 2016 before headlining, and was also on the upswing like Childers so I think headlining (closing Green) is most likely. Closing Red is a possibility too if they book three bigger names
With the big country names on tour I wish Sturgill Simpson had plans, was gonna see him in 2020 (with Tyler Childers opening!) But yknow

Sturgill's been doing a lot of acting lately. He had a small role in the latest season of The Righteous Gemstones (the latest Danny McBride comedy on HBO) and is appearing in the new Scorcese film, Killers of the Flower Moon, alongside acting legends like De Niro, DiCaprio, and Isbell.

There was 60,000 people in the verified pre-sale this morning for Zach Bryan's Gillette show. Childers new album comes out Friday and already has a hit on it on country radio. I think he'll be at a whole new level come May.
It'd be interesting to see how they build a lineup around him though. I know we make cracks about how Calling is turning Americana - but it hasn't looked like Sound on Sound yet.

im sure they’ll find plenty of boring folk stomp for the undercard
it's not as much of a clear conclusion to make as Tyler Childers, given that he's actively in the area MDW and this FOB tour ends like 7 weeks before MDW... but yeah, i wouldn't rule them out. honestly i'd MUCH rather get Jimmy Eat World and Hot Mulligan than FOB, but all 3 wouldn't bother me either.

i think Sturgill's only sang twice since he ruptured his vocal cords. once for willie nelson's birthday and another time just randomly at a nashville bar. pretty sure he's gone on record a few times saying he hates touring and doesn't want to do sturgill simpson anymore and wants to do stuff in bands.
