A couple of observations about the separately ticketed events. When the Sakamoto show was in NYC, they ran 5-7 performances a day and it lasts an hour. The reviews have been glowing so I think I'll definitely try to prioritize making it in.
The 2006 recording of the La Monte Young (which I'm still trying to get my hands on--I only found a couple of web hits for the original CD-R that Young sold) runs about an hour and 45 minutes, so I'm guessing they run it twice in a day or once Friday once Saturday. That'll take up a chunk of time, but it's only been performed a small handful of times and seems really immersive.

I'm wondering what venue they'll use for this. My heart is hopeful theyll use the Civic Auditorium so it's reducing the footprint and time to and from there for these. My head is calling bullshit though and suspecting they'll use the Tennessee during the days.
Also curious as to how much they'll charge. I mean I get why it's separately ticketed (on both accounts) but there was a significant price hike already.
Kinda feel like there's an easier reservation system that having to buy another ticket or two or four.

Honestly from the looks of the New York and Manchester setup, it will be something small. The room at The Shed doesn't look any bigger than OCPAC. I bet each showing doesn't have more than 100 capacity for the Sakamoto. Certainly prepared to be wrong, but it's dependent on the number of augmented reality headsets.

Oh wow. That's gonna be intense if that's the case.

I’m hoping that it’s essentially a token fee that minimizes no-shows but insures most everyone a shot at seeing them. If they make it a free reservation they’ll have 50% attendance at most of the shows.

I think Primavera has done it best so far that I've seen. You paid $10 for the shows that have a capacity and if you showed up to the show it was refunded back to you for drinks at the festival itself. If you didn't use the credit it was fully refunded back to you a few weeks after the festival.
These were club shows vs seated so its a different ballgame, for sure. I just don't like the idea if dropping a lot more money, if that makes sense.

A coworker is a big Led Zeppelin fan and was very jealous when I mentioned John Paul Jones was playing this fest I go to... sent her a link to a Sons of Chipotle performance and I don't think it's what they expected lol

A few takeaways if you don't wanna listen: - JPJ - 2 shows - Rhiannon Giddens - 3 shows - Threadgill Retrospective all weekend - Nonesuch 60th BDay
The biggest though - Probably not going outside for shows
He did state they're working on the community programming now.
Good listen, thanks for catching. He also details what the three Giddens shows are: Touring band Silkroad Ensemble (who seem to mostly be touring this American Railroad project right now, although it also opens up the possibility of Yo Yo Ma?) This trio with Christian McBride and Francesco Turrisi which has only played the one show so far
I'm also excited that there's a JPJ solo set. I appreciate what he's doing with Sons of Chipotle, but if there's any schedule conflict it would probably be a skip for me.

I feel like he kept using the word "intimate" for the ticketed shows, too. Just based off that I suspect you're right with the smaller venues for those.

Herbie will be Saturday per his website. Guessing/hoping for Knoxville Civic for him, such a sterile room but the extra 900 capacity over the Tennessee seems important here.

The lineup (and payment plans on tickets) seem to be going well and I think Herbie has a lot to do with that. He's someone that most people embrace regardless of if they know his music or not. They at least know the name and that's good enough.
They posted today that Premier and Sonic Explorer won't last the weekend. Thats a pretty good indicator to me.
Gonna start my anual plea for Eartheater today. So whoever needs to see this now, the new album slays.

Just noticed Mike Okazaki is playing guitar with Threadgill’s Very Very Circus. He did an excellent CD with Trevor Dunn and Dan Weiss on Tzadik - Hive Mind. Would be a nice addition and will be surprised if Trevor and Mike aren’t in more projects than currently listed. Also, Ikue Mori is playing with Frith. Would expect her to pop up elsewhere too. DNA reunion?

Maybe a revival of The Square Room?
They are under new ownership so maybe! Serious and peculiar question here. I've been dreaming of trying to find a way to get despacio to either Knoxville or Nashville since I experienced it at Coachella this year. The only thing that makes any sense at all is Big Ears. Would that hit? I think it would get a great late night crowd but not sure if it would be worth the hassle. I just want people to be able to experience it. It was so hard to leave even when I had an act I really wanted to see.

I'll never say never but I'd feel like it would be unlikely. The electronic artists they tend to book seem to veer left of the dial by creating soundscapes and noise. Like I could see them booking someone like Merzbow before thinking about Despacio.
That said, I never thought I'd say Big Ears and Digable Planets in the same sentence. So there's always hope.

Any idea what the price tag to put on a despacio show looks like?
