I was pretty excited for Charlotte and thought the Weekend 1 livestream looked mind blowing. So Weekend 2 I left Blur after Beetlebum and went to see Charlotte. I was bored as hell within 20 minutes; just way too repetitive. Plus the crowd was one of the douchiest I’ve been around at Coachella.

I guess our experiences were different. TBF, we only caught about 30 min of it so maybe it was just the right amount of time.
I know this isn't an accurate source, but the pedi cab guy we took on day 3 said Weekend 2 seemed busier than Weekend 1.
The first two days W2 didn't ever feel empty or even less full at the actual stages, but all the secondary stuff (e.g. merch and food lines) was an absolute breeze. Then suddenly Sunday it felt like it was just as packed as it had ever been. It was still easy to walk to an area with short lines and stuff, but the one slice of pizza I waited like 10 minutes for was more of a wait than all the other lines I'd been in that weekend put together. Perhaps it was the Doja effect or it was just how my schedule placed me that day, but everyone in my group that I talked to about it agreed.

Sunday evening was the one only time during the entire fest that I had to wait for in a line for the restroom.

I caught half of OPN and about 20 minutes of charlotte. My brain was fried by the end of it (in a good way). And then no doubt got me up and going again only to be killed by gess (I’m dead now. I’m a ghost)

W1 wasn't much different went to snag some merch on Sunday was in and out in 15 min and I went with a friend again on Sunday in and out 15 mins. Same with food never was more than a 15 min excursion for myself or when I was with friends.

This is exactly my experience. Grounds felt standard level of crowded after about 2:30, but lines for food even in GA were a breeze. I think part of it is that now that the beer gardens are not necessary, people do not hang around for food. We'd be in and out in minutes where you might usually spend 30-40 minutes in a beer garden, so I imagine those vendors sales were affected the most.
Then Sunday all of the sudden the grounds felt more crowded in general and everything became a lot harder. We waited in a line at the Do-Lab bar for 15 minutes, for example. That probably wouldn't have even raised an eyebrow for prior Coachellas of course, but after short lines the first two days it was a bit of a shock.
The one exception were the womens bathrooms in the Rose Garden VIP were always crazy mobbed, like I'm out in 30 seconds and spend 10-15 minutes waiting for my wife to be done. I am sure the Sahara bathrooms were too based on W1 but we had been advised not to go there so avoided it.
Also believe weekend 2 gets an older crowd overall, more likely to prefer/need a ride by the end of the night ha.
What makes you say this? It seems like most of r/Coachella goes W2 and so many of them seem young and unprepared. I know that's anecdotal though, so just wondering.
I can't compare to W1 but the past two years, this festival crowd has felt significantly older. I am 36 now and when I first started going, it used to be that seeing people in their mid-30s was rarer, now there were people in their mid-30s absolutely everywhere and tons of people in their 40s and 50s. I am sure Gorillaz, Blur, Bjork, No Doubt, all that stuff helped a lot but I also feel like we are getting closer to that Euro model where you see people attend festivals far longer into their lives because they grew up with them.

The ones who post are the unprepared ones. Old folks know to read a damn website and then likely ask somebody else for help/answers before going down a rabbit hole or just scroll down.
I saw Charlotte last year and it was meh all around for my taste. Easily in the bottom half of the Techno shows I saw last year. Wouldn’t recommend her show being prioritized over a ton of other great acts on Saturday!
I have to say this was a miss from you. I'm glad my friend ended up steering us to her set. It was fucking great.
Glad you enjoyed the set! The set I saw didn’t have an elaborate lighting rig so I’m sure that helped create a dope atmosphere. I watched part of the live stream since I didn’t attend this year, and will be the first to admit that the Coachella show was better than the show I caught in Phoenix, however, as far as my personal taste are concerned I still don’t find CDW to be that good of a DJ. However, if you liked the Charlotte set then check out ØTTA! She plays a lot of psy trance and techno and I personally find her to be a better DJ as far as track selections are concerned.
I went to my first Coachella at age 21 at W2 2016 and most of the people I met were 30 somethings and met 40+ people too (maybe because GNR?), though I did feel certain sets that year were clearly younger like Jack U, G-Eazy, etc.
I've gone W1 every year since. But this year I also felt like most people were 30 somethings (I'm 29 now) and I saw way more 45-50+ folks than usual too which was interesting. But with even less younger 20s/teens even at younger artist sets.

I was 19 for my first one in 2005 and don't recall thinking much about other peoples' ages lol. But I agree - the fest has always had a median age in the lower 30s IMO, but I def saw more 40+ folks this year (W1) than I can recall noticing in awhile (and many of us noticed it). I'd guess the 90s rock + overall cost is the biggest thing driving that.
my group age is generally young 30s, at ISOKnock and LE SSERAFIM we felt like the oldest people in the crowd, then we went to Orbital and felt like the youngest folks in the crowd

i’m 25 and I felt like most of the ppl i saw at coachella this year were close to my age, aside from a few exceptions like Vampire Weekend, Justive and No Doubt skewing a bit older. went w1

Haha I was at these shows too - in the guest viewing area everybody was older and I felt good but then I turned around and everybody railing it looked like they were 17

We camped next to some college-aged frat boys this year and we overheard them talking about how they bullied a pack of teenage ken carson fans for being ken carson fans. Talk about youth on youth violence, I guess even 21 is old(er) for some artists.
Just to echo everybody else, Sunday was randomly crowded compared to the first two days. We parked in 2A around 2:15pm - the same time as the previous two days - and there were more cars, the lines to get into the camping area was way longer, and the line to get into the actual venue was way longer. I don't even think there was a line the first two days.
Also, Gobi seemed smaller. It's like they cut the back half off and gave it to Mojave lol.
Weirdly enough, the most "on substances" crowd we encountered was L'Imperatrice. A lot of the people around us were talking openly about how much they were rolling lol.

Way too small for Barry. We got there right at start and were probably forty people back from the back of the tent. I was misled by someone from W1 who told me they got there 5 min before the set and were almost up front. Maybe the crowds were just that different?

I think the livestream/reddit bump was the influence this year for Barry. I was at Two Shell then wandered off to get more water and the terlet, walked back in the Gobi like 15 before and got a solid spot dead center about 10-15ft from the rail.

Was that W1 or W2? I think Barry will be back in a couple years and upgraded to Mojave at least.

Weekend 2 stuff will usually have bigger crowds for the small acts cause everyone watched so they could determine if their choices were justified or not. I got there 5 mins before start on W1 and the tent was loosely full and got slammed 10 mins in. If Barry comes back in a couple years he might just get like Sunset on Outdoor which would have a pretty big crowd cause youll have lots of people in the back just hanging out and vibing.

15 mins before and you were fine. 5 mins before it was really tightly packed, though. And then if you tried to come in halfway through the set you were probably ok, because the more chill first half led some folks to bail (at least W1).
Also I spent way too much time stopping and scrolling through some gobi videos from this year and last. I'm like 99% sure the audience area was about 12% less deep this year; I see 8 panels of depth on each side in an Overmono video (three open at the front, two closed, another open, and two more closed) and at least 7 in a Last Dinner Party video (four open at the front, three closed). The width and stage look to be the same. And closing off the back of the tent definitely makes it feel smaller (the sound booth was at the very back of the tent both years, though).

To the first section, I am getting the sense that BCS was way more crowded W2 then because we got there 30 minutes early, no joke, and the tent was already a third full. It felt full to capacity easily at around 10-15 minutes before and nobody left during the show. We know way more people that were outside the tent than in it.
To the second section, thank you for doing the math.
