Idk. I feel like every movie left is worthy of winning on its own merits. Last year I watched Evil Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street on halloween weekend so can vouch that they are both perfect spooky season movies. I watched The Exorcist the year before the day before Halloween. Going to vote Scream here. Its merits are mostly that the Ghostface mask is one of the most popular halloween masks ever, at least when I was growing up. I just think Halloween should be in instead, as it is the film that actually popularized the slasher genre. And its called Halloween, duh.

I wish Halloween was in there as well. I was not voting for it the round it got eliminated. I really love that Halloween was so low budget that even though it is scary AF, there is so little blood and gore throughout the whole movie.
With Scream I disagree just because I love how it was set in general. You start with Drew Barrymoore, who one would assume is the star, and she immediately gets killed within the first 15 mins of the movie. It just pulls you right in. Plus, it created a whole spin-off goof series, Scary Movie. And yes, that spoofed all scary movies, but it happened because of Scream.
I am personally on Exorcist, I have stated my top three from what was left earlier.
Scream is also the only movie that's been in this list that could happen for real. everything else is supernatural to some degree.
I dunno. My Catholic upbringing still has me convinced that I am more likely to be possessed by a demon on any given day over being hunted down by two high school serial killers.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.
