I am sure we probably have a thread for this from long ago, but if we do, we haven't posted in it in so long that I refuse to dig anymore. If we have one from recently, please shut my ass down.
The plan is to have one song per week, nominated by our colleagues. We each share what WE think the song means/what it means to us. The preferance here is to not look up what the artist says it mean and to not look up how other's interpret it. I realize that some of us have already read about songs because we wanted to know, but try your best to release yourself from what you have read and let no bias affect your own thoughts and feelings. Sound good?
I have a number of songs that I love explaining and would rather discuss. But I am going to start with one that most of us know. Choosing this one since it sparked a late night drunken hotel discussion after Bourbon and Beyond and most of us know it. I am going to express my interpretation before I read what Eddie says it is about. Once again, I encourage not reading what the song is about before you review it on your own.
I seem to recognize your face Haunting, familiar yet I can't seem to place it Cannot find the candle of thought to light your name Lifetimes are catching up with me
All these changes taking place I wish I'd seen the place But no one's ever taken me
Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away
I swear, I recognize your breath Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising Me, you wouldn't recall for I'm not my former It's hard when you're stuck upon the shelf
I changed by not changing at all Small town predicts my fate Perhaps that's what no one wants to see I just want to scream hello
My God it's been so long Never dreamed you'd return But now here you are and here I am
Hearts and thoughts they fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade, fade away Hearts and thoughts they fade
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

Our life experiences truly affect how we see music. I have read Eddie's explanation over the last years, but when I first heard this song, this is what I heard. And it is now still what I hear. A song about reincarnation. Meeting someone who you have known before.
"I seem to recognize your face. Haunting, familiar. I can't seem to place it..... lifetimes are catching up with me" Like we have been with/known one another before.
"I swear, I recognize your breath Memories like fingerprints are slowly raising Me, you wouldn't recall for I'm not my former"
"I just want to scream hello My God it's been so long Never dreamed you'd return But now here you are and here I am
