do y'all prefer indoor shows or outdoor shows? for years i've always preferred indoor shows. better sound and better lights. but after four days in a smokey sold out arena crammed up against other fans (who were perfectly lovely but still), i think i'm starting to prefer outdoor shows. the sky above you, nice breeze, and typically more space, or at least the venue will have somewhere I can escape to that will provide me more space.

I’m always an outdoor-first person, with the caveat that I much prefer an outdoor show that at least ends in the dark over one that starts and finishes with the sun still up.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
I've had great times at both and agree with your points on the benefits of outdoor shows, but I think the advantages of an indoor show outweigh the the outdoor shows.

Really depends. I would say outdoor but not all acts are better outdoor. It also doesn’t help that the biggest outdoor Atlanta venue happens to be the worst venue in Atlanta
This is a good question. I guess I prefer outdoor? As long as the weather's nice, at least. Outdoor spaces tend to be less cramped, better scenery, etc. If I'm on the lawn somewhere I can go grab a beer without worrying about navigating through a packed concert crowd, which is one of my least favorite things about concerts.

I was definitely an indoor show girl, but due to the pandi I think I am more about outdoor. I will say this, I went to see H.E.R. at Champion Square on Sunday and it decided to go against the weather prediction and drizzled on us for about 20 mins. Just long enough to make everything damp, cause humidity and frizz my hair. But I wasn't worried about being closer to the person next to me. Inside still scares me a little (I am still working through some mental issues that arose after covid first hit so there is that).

Really depends on the act and the venue, though I think outdoor shows have the potential to go beyond indoor shows.
Pre-covid, the local zoo had a nice little amphitheater that I loved to see shows at. One of the most memorable was Feist, I saw a shooting star halfway through her set. I've seen Feist a few times, but nothing is topping that.
Outdoor shows can also be shitshows due to poor logistics, weather, etc, whereas indoor shows you usually know what to expect if you've been to the venue before. I'm not a fan of sitting on the lawn for big amphitheater shows. It's a tough question, I'd probably lean towards indoors but I'll jump at any nice outdoor show.
Outdoor for me pretty much correlates to festivals and if I have to choose between an outdoor show or an indoor one, I'd rather go with the latter. Chances of being surrounded by people who are also fan of the band in question are also much higher. There's only a few outdoor venues who are open during the summer, they're at a nice location but the attendees tend to be noisy, asocial afterwork-type people and not really concert goers.

Lakewood?
But just a little ways north you have Alpharetta which is one of my favorite outdoor venues.

Indoors. Outdoors are great until the thunderstorm rolls in. I'm still salty about missing what might be my only chance to see Volcano Choir due to weather. I've also had better overall sound indoors at local Pittsburgh venues.
I love both and both have their pros and cons, but I hate that feeling of not knowing if a band is going to play through a storm or if we're going to get evacuated and miss out.

UGH I LOVE VOLCANO CHOIR
It was at Boston Calling, and it haunts me til this day. I don't think they've played live since. A good friend of mine and her girlfriend came out for Girl Talk, who was the only other act cancelled for the day.
Edit: Specfically outdoor GA, not sheds or pavillion types of venues. Which unfortunately MA lacks. Thompsons Point is the closest we’ve got aside from Boston Calling.

That is tragic. I lived off of that Girl Talk album for years.

First time I saw Black Keys was in the pouring ass rain at Voodoo (09) and they were throwing down. It was so good.

As I entered my 30's, I found myself going to a lot more outdoor shows, and covid has only increased this. I'm less about being in a sweaty pit now and more about sipping a cocktail under the stars. It definitely helps that here in SoCal, the odds of an outdoor show being ruined by weather are very minimal (though it has happened), and both the Greek and SB Bowl in particular are in very nice neighborhoods.
Granted, there are many more indoor venues in general, and most smaller acts can't fill the outdoor ones anyway, so I'll take whatever I can get most of the time.
EDIT: First time I think I've had "cocktail" censored, but it's pretty funny!

You didnt even mention the best out them all, The Hollywood Bowl. I mean Ive been a subscriber there for 15 years so might have some bias. I hate the Greek, and SB is great when theres a good show there and not on a tuesday.
But yeah, prob leaning towards outdoors cause of having one of the most legendary outdoor venues in the country right in your backyard. And you can BYOB during season shows along with food. But for lease shows you can still bring everything but alcohol. Although theres plenty of ways to sneak in booze there.

How does the LA Greek compare to Berkley? I loved seeing Tame Impala and UMO at the Berkley Greek in 2016.
