Is this the new norm? Are the masses just not wishing to spend their $$$ on multi-day music festivals, coming out of the pandemic???
Give people value plus a little rarity and theyll come. Def wouldve been way diff if they had Bjork for starters. They also got outflanked by the big boys. Why go all the way to Perris and pay all that extra to camp and park when you can see lots of stuff in LA county for less and you can sleep at home.

That's a bummer but also true about rarity. They have some great rare stuff but I'm guessing there aren't that many people making the trek out for bands like Cortex and Kikagaku Moyo (who both have LA shows anyway). I know Iggy has history with the fest but sadly doubt many young music fans care, at least enough to prop up ticket sales.
I would imagine that at least the Tame day is selling well. If it isn't my faith in Tame fans has dropped immensely.
It'll be a shame if this is poorly attended but yeah, the with combo of there being so many fests this year, including a bunch over the next several weeks, plus the lack of big-draw headliners aside from maybe Tame (and the chance King Gizz could cancel due to Stu's health situation), not to mention inflation and recession etc., it makes sense attendance could be down.
It probably also doesn't help that they've increased prices as the festival gets closer, making it a lot cheaper to buy passes on Stubhub. I wonder if they'll announce a Lyte exchange again like last year.
But they'll definitely need to re-think their approach for next year if sales end up being poor.
I think Daze is dead after this unless they get a cash infusion. Theyre just gonna keep raising the cost to try and make up for losses. I mean if they offer $99 tix again theres probably a lot more people which will jump at that price point. And then theyll just say that ticket is good to some small event and thatll be that.

Maybe this will be the last big DD and they'll move to a more 2021-sized fest with a lineup comparable to Levitation. I'm gonna be really sad if this is the last year, never got a chance to attend.
I'll be bummed if this ends up being the last one. Though I'll be glad I got to experience those couple years at the Institute, those two years felt like something special.

I'd still go if they changed venues to somewhere smaller of it was still camping. If they went city fest though I'll try levitation

Levitation seems like a mess to me and way too pricey for the limited number of acts you can catch. I'd definitely stick with DD if they scaled it down and still did camping.
I don't even think we're considering that there's a fairly decent chance we lose 2 of the headliners too. Iggy pop just cancelled 2 tour dates because of his throat (not to mention he's 75) and gizz cancelled the rest of their tour too... This could get interesting
I mean a part of me wondered, just seeing how festivals don't live forever, if Daze would eventually ride off into the sunset for various reasons.
The reasons being that - 1) All the drama with Pappy's, which Phil is involved in, could have him re-thinking how he wants to approach Daze in the future (or if he even has the desire to still do it). Recall that he was already thinking to downscale it, change the format, since he had wanted Daze '21 to be various showcases over a couple weeks at Pappy's; 2) Lack of strong ticket sales/profits, as you're running a bigger & bigger event, could force Daze to link-up with bigger partners, sell the fest, or again change the format/approach; 3) And the biggest reason for my suspicion, was the whole 3-4 months $99 sale for this 10th Anniversary/Edition...In my gut it felt like possibly it was a final gift to us hardcore Daze fans for our years of support, knowing that this would be it?
But again, all just speculation here, and I too hope that it remains for years to come. If it becomes a smaller event, back to 1-2 days, but the lineups are still original/eclectic, I'll take it.
I think the $99 sale may have been to get cash flow to pay deposits for acts in hopes Tame and others would be a big enough draw to make up for it. Total speculation, but I wonder if they did originally have Bjork and cut her loose in favor of Iggy to save money, or if the Bjork thing was nothing more than a rumor.
I couldn't imagine Daze putting on such a high level production as Bjork's last tour, assuming they would get her to do the same production for the Cornucopia tour. I felt that was a strange rumor.

Bjork didnt have a crazy production when she did FYF 5 years ago. Just had an LED screen behind her with visuals. So it couldve been manageable unless Bjorl had wanted to fit a 50 piece band on stage.

Yeah, 2016 was spectacular. Really wish this event was still hosted at that venue.

That was my favorite venue too! It was so unique, mystical, and I think perfectly meshed with the vibe of Daze/Moon Block.
They always said they wanted to return there, but nothing has materialized since they last had the fest there in 2017. And sadly I don't think the Institute holds ANY music events of any kind anymore due to crabby residents who didn't want the noise & traffic in the area.
Staying in one of the onsite bungalows in 2017 was such a great experience. Especially since I ended up getting mono before the fest because I was able to go back to the bungalow and nap each day, not to mention being able to go back and get beers to bring in as often as we wanted. Plus being able to watch the Spiritualized sound check in the morning was super cool. I just checked and that cost $999, a steal compared to the $1,699 stout tents they offer now, even factoring in inflation.

Yeah we were tempted to get a bungalow, but once we won their Super VIP Tix that year, we decided that was good enough haha
Although you can't fit as many people on those grounds, it was just so fucking perfect to see bands like Spiritualized, Black Angels, King Gizz, Deerhunter, Osees, Brian Jonestown, etc. amongst the Joshua Trees and under the desert night sky.
