I question Portishead ever playing again more than I do Outkast. Both definitely fit under the rules here. While I was thinking about it, someone like Outkast creates a different category. They never broke up but you can’t say they’re active either. They’re still a thing just not active.
Portishead regularly takes long breaks between albums/tours. Also Beth Gibbons/Geoff Barrow are more active with other works than the odd feature here and there like Andre does. There’s also that rumored album but take that for what it’s worth.
They also haven’t disavowed their last tour as a money grab.
this has gotta count as “headliner talent” right? Or did we scrap that rule
Oh, shit, my bad. I’ll make sure in the future to not select any popular artists for the second line of the biggest festival in the United States, which has historically not done that.

I just get the vibe from following Geoff Barrow on Twitter that Portishead is done. I’d love to be wrong. I wouldn’t take anything Andre says as anything solid. He’s definitely a different kind of person than anyone else in any band we could be discussing. He doesn’t rap unless someone asks him too, he was only talked into doing that one tour, but it’s not like he couldn’t decide today to do another album or another tour.

ehh i think there's an argument for both sides here: Lizzo probably would be in the 4-6 range at Coachella if booked for 2022 but also, she *is* considered "headliner talent" and that's the literal wording of the rule.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

I don’t follow Geoff on Twitter so idk what he says so maybe there’s something to that, no idea.
Never say never but I don’t think we can discount what Andre has said about their last reunion and about him not wanting to be rapping when he’s old. Obviously he does the odd feature and that’s rapping but that’s different than a full tour/full album/EP/ etc.

Yeah Coachella and ACL are kinda different animals here.
Especially ACL, which functionally has 6 headliners, not 3.
Shouldn't talent for second lines should be determined somewhat by who the headliners are/the size of your specific festival? There's no way Lizzo would headline over Beyonce, Bjork, and Bruce Springsteen at Coachella. She wasn't chosen during the first three rounds so I think she's fair game.
Plus, Products of Conception has some DEEP pockets.
-I understand the rule says “headliner talent” but there are some very big and very small festivals here and if we wanted to make anything close to resembling a real Coachella we will inevitably have to pick some very popular artists who play large venues. (Glastonbury also is going to run into this issue too, inevitably)
-like, for example, if it ends up being the case that we also have to pick Charli XCX as our number 2 artist because everyone else is “too big :/ and a headliner :///“ that’s, sorry, completely ridiculous.
-If you want to put it to a vote, I can’t stop people from doing that. If our festival ends up looking the same as everyone else’s because there’s only so many approved acts we can pick from so that the parameters remain as tight as possible, I am not going to be happy at all about it.

She’d probably be billed over Bjork at this point.

What I'm saying there is that 4-6 at ACL will have to be acts that would 1-3 at some of these other festivals.
Like, Kacey is big enough to headline Shaky Knees. That's never happening, but she's that size of act. And I'm not changing ACL's physical layout to make that not a thing.
I think Lizzo is unavailable, but that's just my opinion. Tame Impala is another one who is equally questionable since they have headlined other fests.
Both could probably move to a poll. I won't ever request one though for the record.
