Just went to Sea.Hear.Now. in Asbury Park, in which Tim was a partner. Great festival, but hotel stock within walking distance was limited. Ocean City MD, on the other hand, looks to have at least 50 motels/hotels within a mile, which in late September, are probably well under capacity. I like Tim’s taste in lineups, too (Shaky Knees in particular). I think there’d be a good market for a “kids are at school, let’s have some fun” adult-leaning lineup.
That article says it was pitched as a “Lollapalooza type event”. I’m assuming that the comparison is more of a generalization, but if Ocean’s Calling turns out to be a multi-genre fest this could be very interesting. C3 also has Sea.Here.Now the same month so it would make a lot sense for this to be booked differently.
Anybody have suspicions on which venue they would be using for this? Looks like they are planning on using some of the infrastructure from bike week the week prior.
If they’re still “in negotiations” 7 months before the event, I have my doubts about this happening in 2022. It’s competing that weekend with: - Sound on Sound in CT, which has already dropped its lineup, geared towards the “adult alternative” crowd. - Firefly, a little over an hour from Ocean City, is likely attract the younger set. - Bourbon and Beyond, in Louisville, may also be that weekend, and draw away some rock acts and the crowd willing to travel.
I hope I’m wrong- the more choices, the better- but time’s a-wastin’...

In my mind I was thinking Firefly had moved back to June. If they are aiming for the younger multi genre demo I could definitely see that causing issues.
This not being a camping festival (and also at the beach) does offer some contrast though. Plus, with all the active artists it should be possible to book a semi-unique lineup (possibly something like the old Sound on Sound festival in TX?). Time is definitely not on their side though, and if they are truly still "in negotiations" then that's a little concerning.

Damn I hate that this is same weekend as Firefly, which is basically the only other large scale festival in this area. Kinda stupid they both end up on the same weekend.

hol up yea this is a really stupid decision, especially considering theyre only an hour and 20 mins apart from eachother. I might do firefly depending on whether the kept rage though, it being a camping fest and drivable makes it a lot more doable for me

“Tom Perlozzo, the city’s director of tourism and business development, said this week that he hopes to announce the headliners as early as late next month for a Lollapalooza-style music festival that Chicago-based C3 Presents is slated to put on for the weekend of Sept. 23-25.
“The town and C3 are still developing the terms of the contract and hopefully we will have things locked up within 30-45 days,” Perlozzo said in an email Wednesday. “It’s our intention to announce the line-up, etc. sometime later February or early March.””

Very odd they chose to compete with a nearby, well-established festival the same weekend. Also Sound on Sound is that weekend. I can't imagine much crossover with Firefly, seems like a bad business model to have 2 similar festivals 70 miles apart the same weekend. Although Tim has booked Green Day for a bunch of events already this year, so who knows? I would have guessed Foo Fighters since Dave Grohl frequents the local beaches, but they're in Canada that weekend.
Go big or go home: Jack White - LCD Soundsystem - Florence
As a somewhat local (my parents tiny shore house is off the main island towards assateague, as well as my grandmothers regular home) depending on the capacity, getting into the city will be a nightmare unless you walk over the bridge.
Just as an FYI in case you plan on coming for this and don't stay directly in Ocean City. Excited to see what happens with this!
If there's already two rock festivals that weekend and they're promising a "Lollapalooza type event" then that means J Cole is getting paid
i really doubt any fest tim sweetwood is in charge of will ever have J. Cole on a lineup
I have no idea what lane they're trying to put this fest in, but Shaky Beats was loaded with a ton of acts that were way more tasteless than Cole. Any port in a storm.
I know its rarely ever a good idea to do a first year fest, but I’m keeping my eyes on this one
Ya I think itll be whatever the hell this ends up being or no fest for me this year. Hoping for something even just slightly interesting for a weekend with friends.
I started to look into hotels yesterday but figured it's worth waiting for more details since there are hotels everywhere in OC and I likely don't care how shitty where I'm staying is for this.
My friends and I weren't initially happy that it fell on the same weekend as Firefly. However, since it seems like our FF interest has wane lately due to the lineup, we're interested to see what this looks like. Glad that they decided to push this back. Desert Daze is the only festival I can think of that conflicts with these dates, but I don't see much crossover anyways. Since Sea.Hear.Now and this are less than 4 hours away, I can't see them sharing headliners. I'm assuming that we'll probably share at least two headliners and a bunch of undercard acts with ACL.

Doing this during the same weekend as H2O would have been a disaster. Smart to move it back. Has there been any mention on location? Guessing it would be directly on the beach? Not a lot of space to work with down there.
