In 2018 a lot of people thought for sure Anderson was going to sub at Coachella 2019 and he ended up being on the third line his day. I think if he plays he’ll be billed very high, but even with Silk Sonic I don’t think he’ll headline; I also think that 98% of the reason “Leave the Door Open” has been so successful is 98% because people really fucking love Bruno Mars and 2% because they know who Anderson Paak is.
Huh, I guess he did, though he was billed 4th on his day. I still think he’ll sub at this point.

Yeah I think he probably needs a popular solo album but I was curious how much people think the Silk Sonic thing could impact his popularity. I do think if the Silk Sonic album ends up being like... as big as Lizzo’s album they would make him a headliner

I was thinking about this earlier, and I really think with Bruno Mars being half of it that they will be a headliner. Except they seem more like the headliner Coachella grabs instead of Bonnaroo.
Rage is almost certainly still playing Coachella next year, but Roo has shared a headliner with Coachella 3 of the last 4 years, so that shouldn't hurt our chances. Rage and The White Stripes are my top 2 bucket list bands I want to see live, and the latter probably won't ever happen.

Rage's tour next year in April and May has all 2-3 day gaps, besides a 20-day gap from April 6 in AZ to April 26 in CA. Coachella would fall on the weekends of either the 8th and 15th or 15th and 22nd. Either way, a perfect fit.
Could Silk Sonic elevate Anderson Paak to a headliner?

Something about the vibe of the project screams pre-HL to me but I think if they incorporate Bruno and Anderson songs into their set it could work as a headliner. Given Bruno’s presence I obviously wouldn’t be surprised if they were

Yeah I'm torn, could still definitely see them being pre-HL. It'd be an exciting booking though for sure. Even Anderson by himself felt like a headliner-caliber show at Roo in '18. I was surprised as a casual fan of how good it was even from the back.
Gonna take a moment to appreciate the serious undercard potential for next year. Hoping a good chunk of this big list makes it onto the 2022 lineup
