Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
just my judgment but i'd think most bands playing festivals assume somewhere from a 50-75 minute timeslot, and prepare a set for that accordingly. so if bonnaroo is going to book a band like tame impala that plays a fixed setlist with little deviation night over night for a two hour timeslot, and make that timeslot a big deal to fans, they should also have explicitly communicated that to the band:
"hey we know you typically play a 75 minute set or whatever but FYI we are giving you two hours if you want to play more. if not let us know and we can change your set length to 75 minutes instead of two hours so that your fans aren't disappointed and arguing about it online for 4 years."
i also don't think kevin parker is online reading about the festivals he is playing at or their schedules or what other artists are playing. you could make an argument that someone within his organization should be doing that, but again i think the impetus to communicate an unusual set length is primarily on bonnaroo.
The idea that they know when to start, but not when to stop, makes no sense to me
Really? How many shows has Tame done in the past 5-6 years? We all love Bonnaroo and go on a message board to confirm that. But Kevin see's Roo as just another festival. He's done 100's of them. City fests like ACL and Osheaga have exact cut off times but a few festivals do not. Unless they paid him extra money for an extended set I could easily see how communication could be lost between multiple parties.
Yeah, as much as we don't wanna I think the wife and I are gonna take the refund. This just sucks.
Yeah it sucks. Bonnaroo will be my 3rd missed festival after Buku and Jazz Fest so far. There was such a good cross appeal of acts that catered to many different people. My kids all go every year, but I've only been 3x so it's not a guarantee I'd go back without a lineup that held enough interest for me.
I'm going to check in sometime in May with the rest of the camping group we had and see what everyone is doing. If the festival is cancelled as expected, they really didn't say what the options would be. To take that to the next step, between Frontgate Tickets and FEVO (group camping I think?) there seem to be 3 options - second wave of refunds after announcement of cancellation, no refunds because the window closed (which I highly doubt they would try to pull that off) or leave your money in and throw in some perks for interest ala Voodoo. Voodoo offered you an upgrade sweepstakes entry, a token credential and a $50.00 merch and food credit so the $99.00 3 day became worth holding onto. And I'd go to that every year anyway. I think from a financial standpoint, and I'd have to get a ruling from postjack to confirm, but getting a 50% return on your money in 18 months, you probably come out ahead for the 18 months plus however long since you bought your ticket before that.
For Bonnaroo (also Live Nation obviously) to follow the same path, they'd have to pony up over $100 in perks, and I'm not sure they'd offer that much. Coupled with me not being sure I'm even going back there in 2021, you and the Mrs. probably have the right idea.
I'm doing the same for now. A few friends are doing the same, a few requested refunds. I'm not thinking it's going to happen this fall but I just don't wanna give up just yet haha. If it does cancel, like many of you probably, I hope the next Roo lineup we see is similar to this one. It was my favorite since I've been going, I knew it was too good to be true lol!
Take this for what it's worth, but I've heard they are gauging interest and refund requests before they cancel/postpone.
Idk if I believe it and I honestly don't think it's happening this year; BUT that's coming from someone higher up in FESS, who does security for Bonnaroo.

Like if they don't get a significant number of refunds they may try harder to make September go?

I guess being in TN they won't have any state order telling them they can't do it. As opposed to how it will probably be in NY, CA, etc.
So if they can make it profitable they'll proceed. Would be wild as fuck if it actually goes on.
I'm betting on 2021 and taking this ticket as an investment. If we have Sept. happen, both Coachella and us are the test dummies. We are taking the risk, and I think people holding on their tickets know that -- but if you're going to start re-opening music festivals, we are either going to see like 3 total or none at all. And they are betting on being that outside festival that tries to do social distancing and safety measures IMO

They probably won't get a state order but even if it is profitable at first (big if), it's a long term PR nightmare that would probably kill the festival.
The only situation I see this happening is if we see an unprecedented drop-off in cases (which tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if we just starting faking numbers to an insane degree) or the Oxford vaccine comes earlier than expected and is produced en masse soon.

Nope. Not happening that early. And the real beauty is they haven’t found a US company that wants to pair up with them to produce the Oxford vaccine. Profits you know. We are going to have to buy it from Astazeneca.

how many artists do you think would take a stand and drop out?

thats another thing. Completely disregarding the moral standpoint for these bands, it’s probably not profitable for them to travel for just one show. Logistically they can’t route a whole tour based around different state laws that will be changed last minute and it’s a risk cause fans might not come out.
I requested a refund because it's not happening this year. Get your money back while you can.
For real. Unless you really don't need the money and know 100% for sure that you are going to go whenever it happens again I'm not sure why you wouldn't get a refund. Of course it's none of my business what someones decides to do with their money but there is no way in hell this is happening.
I'm holding onto mine since I got Tier 2. The money's already spent, and the odds are I'll be going next year. I don't need the money at the moment but if I got a refund I'd spend it and then potentially wouldn't have the money to shell out for a ticket next year, so it's easier to not even put myself in that position.

that's my thought. I'm scraping by right now without the refund, but a year from now there's no way I'll be able to afford tickets unless something goes horribly right
I think I am going to do the refund. I bought 4 tickets to get the free parking pass, so it's kinda a group vote. As much as I wanna see this thing out I don't want to screw one of my friends over... If this thing happens I will look into secondary market tickets because this was going to be my 9th in a row and I was planning on trying for 10.

On this topic, we also bought four tickets at the same time to get the pass deal, but now two of us plan to go and two don’t. Has anyone been able to refund just a part of their order (as in, refunding two tickets on an order of four)? I haven’t tried yet, but plan to before the May 31 deadline.
After taking the survey it looks like they sent them to Ambassadors, I signed up for that program then never used it. If you wanna take it I would just choose Bonnaroo for the first question. It seems like they might be making an effort towards fall Bonnaroo, still not holding my breath though.
