Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
You know we're starved for content when we're substituting Skrillex into the line-up for basically no good reason.
Anyway, pretty stoked that Bonnaroo is the first show of the new tour. I can't help but spoil show details for myself. Can't spoil it if I'm there for the debut.
What?? An artist who signed on to play a festival isn't dropping out of it for completely arbitrary reasons despite what random Internet folks are saying?? WHAT EVEN IS THE LIVE MUSIC INDUSTRY ANYMORE???
scoops economy in shambles. where's our bailout biden?
I mean they seem to be treating this tour like it's own new thing, so I doubt everything will stay the same from the 3 shows they played 15 months ago. And Kevin said in an interview that he's excited to play One More Hour live, which isn't on that setlist. Not saying we necessarily get it, but it shows he's planning on playing other songs.
So...either Tame Impala or Lizzo is going to break a contract to play an event less than three months out from said event because of poster placement despite the fact that the poster has been out in the world for almost three months?
I mean, I guess it's not impossible, but it seems kinda galaxy brain, to me.
Yeah I’m kinda struggling to wrap my head around too. Maybe it has to do with which act gets to close the stage. I haven’t been on the private forums long but you can send tЯist♡n a PM and he should be able to grant access
the reasoning is that Bonnaroo is one of the first festivals back from covid and Lizzo and Tame each want to set the precedent that they’re #1 headliners going forward. I actually think skrillex would be 2 but get to close down the what stage after the headliner which is more appealing to him.

So that's why Tame is coming with an brand new show; it's all a dickwaving contest to upstage Lizzo.

I just hope that Bonnaroo and Firefly get set times equivalent to that of the other Tame shows. Would suck to even miss 2-3 songs that are played elsewhere.
I am curious if the main reason for this whole reschedule is just because Tame wanted Bonnaroo to be the kick off to the tour and debut of a new show. Or if it was mainly just the difficulties of starting a tour a month from now. Either way, it seems odd that they even moved around the dates that were already scheduled after Bonnaroo.

Nailed it. They can't handle her juice, so they're announcing the new show now before Lizzo releases the Darkside joint project.

Right, but...would that case actually be made by dropping out of a big-print festival booking at the last minute? From a PR standpoint, that wouldn't seem to me to be a solid move ("Hey, festivals! I am very bookable as a #1 headliner, as evidenced by me dropping this headliner-level booking less than 90 days out!"), and I'd imagine it'd be tough to explain to fans ("I know you bought non-refundable tickets to this event at least partially to come see me play, but I'm ganking out at near the zero hour because I'm not getting enough respect in the schedule! See you on tour!").
Plus, speaking only as a fan who's followed Tame Impala since the InnerSpeaker days, it'd strike me as an uncharacteristically prima donna flex from Kevin Parker.
I guess anything is possible, and I'm certainly no industry insider, but I dunno, dawg.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount
I'm confused about all this discussion of Skrillex and Lizzo/Tame wanting this or that. Are these not just completely made up scenarios, or am I missing something?

They are completely made up scenarios. It's best to just ignore them completely.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
We should just be debating who's closing the What.
Even though Tame's more "late night" my money's on Lizzo because Bonnaroo has yet to have the #1 on a day not in that spot, and it also seems like the better crowd control move for how I think Gizz and MMJ will be scheduled

Yeah I'm very torn on this. Tame seems like the much better option for that 11-12:30-ish timeslot to kick off the late night, but like you said it would break precedent. But I also see them as sort of 1a and 1b headliners, since Tame was originally headlining last year. And since Tame will likely have the longer show, it could make sense to have them later. Right now I'm sticking with Tame after Lizzo.

I also think Lizzo, partly because of the earlier dark time. Tame can be scheduled from 8:45-10:30 and still play in complete darkness. If it were June, that might be a little different.
I guess Lizzo will get 75 minutes? so 11:15 or 11:30 start time most likely.

I know it may be hard for people to believe since he used to play guitar, but Kevin is a huge diva

Is there evidence of this? I don't think I've ever heard anything that would indicate that.

The dude who records 1000s of vocal takes for one song? From what I know he does have a bit of a diva reputation in a lot of music circles, especially in Australia, although idk how much of that has been voiced publicly. He's branded it as perfectionism but they're the same thing
I absolutely don't think he's cancelling Roo though

For my clashfinder I have Tame 9:15-11 and Lizzo 12-1:15
He records on his own though, I wouldn't really consider what he does on his own in the studio to be diva behavior. The perfectionist tag seems to be something others say, but not really himself. He usually says he doesn't consider himself a perfectionist whenever it's brought up. Not saying I agree with him lol, but it's at least not self-applied.

What if Foo Fighters drop out because they said they're only playing fully-vaccinated shows this year, Tame and Lizzo BOTH drop out due to a fatal miscommunication that leads to them both thinking they've been slighted on the schedule, and Tyler drops out because some of the "Billie Eilish mouths a racial slur in an old video" controversy actually ends up blowing back on the artist who used the slur...and we end up with three straight nights of Skrillex headlining sets???

Who knows, if it's unopposed then maybe Lizzo would prefer something like a 9-10:15 timeslot rather than 11:30-12:45 or something. Would be closer to the headlining times for most other festivals. If there's artist overlap with Tame then Lizzo would still feel like the main headliner of the night.
