I'd really hate if Trump got re-elected and the US government became a hollowed-out vessel for corporations to use to destroy the entire planet in order to make about 500 people extremely rich. Can you imagine?

yeah but Biden will properly fill out the paperwork when he does it

He will restore dignity to the office of War Criminal.
How does everyone envision the next 24 or so years going? Like....I'm voting for biden but I also sometimes lean towards the way of "it doesn't matter" and "we're fucked either way". Like...is there any hope for a future where this country gets its act together? What can realistically be accomplished and how? I've been so down about so much lately.
Well, by 2045 we’re looking at reaching technological singularity so we’ll be fully fucked if we aren’t already. Otherwise, Ds and Rs will swap back and forth with the continued bullshit, get nothing done, quickly pass expensive new shit for their buddies in crisis, repeat.
Personally, the emergence of a viable 3rd party or several smaller factions to disrupt the two party system. I know we talked about some of this a few months back. I’d also be interested in age limits for federal positions. Cut them off at 65. With the pace of technological advancement, social change, etc. the individuals and parties involved aren’t equipped with the ability / knowledge / age to understand and effectively deal with issues of today and the future.
Re: the earlier comments. I am moderately aware of the bad things Bush did but I think my point is that even though Biden sucks he does not suck anywhere near as bad as Trump who has been blatantly the worst and does absolutely nothing to not flaunt how terrible he is
Now that I can't watch certain episodes of my favorite shows on streaming anymore because a character did black face, regardless of contexts that explicitly portrayed those characters as ignorant or the fact that I'm an adult, someone should release a compilation of the pulled episodes in a boxset. Like Nuggets.
We need to get the gosh dang cheeto out of the white house so we can get someone in office who will run the border internment camps politely, someone who will overthrow south american governments and indiscriminately bomb the middle east politely, causing massive polite refugee crises, someone who will put polite monsters like Larry Summers in charge of the economy, and be advised by polite scumbags like Rahm Emanuel, someone who is brave enough to say that climate change is real but who is refusing to even consider putting fracking on the chopping block
-healthcare, expanding government run plans: public option offered to all Americans on a sliding scale according to income, automatically provided to low-income Americans for free. reduce medicare age from 65 to 60. federal govt to pay full cost of coverage under COBRA for those who lost insurance due to unemployment during COVID.
-criminal justice: eliminate private prisons, eliminating mandatory minimum sentences, federal standard for police dept use of force, end sentences of life without parole for juveniles. no legalization of marijuana at the federal level, but allow states to decide whether to legalize for recreational use.
-climate change: move all electric power off fossil fuels by 2035, carbon neutral in all new buildings by 2030, install 500 million solar panels in the next five years.
-economy, closing racial gaps and creating jobs: baby bonds (possibly), large-scale federal employment program in areas such as infrastructure development (new deal-esque program).
-education: less emphasis on standardized tests, more emphasis on holistic tests of students' skills and "the importance of schools as community centers that provide a broad array of social services, such as health care and meals". triple federal aid for low-income schools, increase funding for students with disabilities. public universities free for families earning under $125k per year, community colleges free for all.
-immigration: protect dreamers from deportations, end trump travel restrictions against 13 countries with substantial muslim populations. increase number of refugees allowed into the US to 125,000 per year from 18,000 per year, cease wall building.

i certainly understand cynicism in american politics, and i also understand that not all of the above items could happen, but i think the fact that they are on the agenda is a testament to the activism of progressives and Biden's willingness to work with them.
i think the above provides clear examples of how america will be a better place for many under a Biden administration as opposed to a Trump administration, specifically the poorest among us.
I think all of us here can agree we are not excited ‘bout a Biden presidency. Hell, most may not even want him as a president. But sure as hell I can’t mentally take another four years under Agent Orange 45. So I will vote Biden, and down ballot I’ll continue to vote as progressive as I can.

The potential to be excited about a Biden Presidency is that the left has been doing better and better in congressional races and they will have a pretty significant role on whatever gets sent for him to rubber stamp

Buy physical media. They can't take the episodes from me

Debating about Biden's position on this stuff feels kind of pointless because he's not going to do anything to actually meaningfully change any of this, but it's impossible to prove it to an extent that most of the people claiming otherwise will accept (because the only proof they'd accept is Biden's administration having already ended and being judged in hindsight, and even then they would require some sort of explicit admission that they had no desire to achieve the things in question). Beyond a certain point, there's not really anything you can say to someone who, regardless of historical precedent, genuinely believes something might happen in the future (and there are a lot of cultural forces encouraging Democrats to assume their politicians are acting in good faith by default).
I'm a straight, white male, born with numerous privileges. And since I have no way of ever truly knowing what it is like to be anything other than a privileged straight white male, the best I can do is to listen to people who are not and try to understand things from their perspective as best as possible. And when I read through a lot of the posts that y'all make on here regarding protest votes or non-voting, or not seeing enough differences between Trump and Biden or Trump and historical GOP, my inclination is to think how outraged I would be if I were a person of color, female, LGBTQ, or any of the other countless groups that have been marginalized and denigrated by Trump and his administration. This all just reeks of privilege.
I'd love to hear the thoughts of anyone out there who isn't a straight white male on how they view the concept of protest votes or not voting in this coming election. Maybe I'm wrong about this, and if so, I'd love to learn more.

Hi straight, male but Asian American who likes to lurk in this thread. I have many reasons to vote for Biden over Trump but one, in particular, is that Biden won't say shit like "Kung Flu" and stoke racism against Asian Americans. I'm not in a swing state but will still be (unhappily) voting for Biden. If you aren't in a swing state I don't care who you vote for.
