I'm a straight, white male, born with numerous privileges. And since I have no way of ever truly knowing what it is like to be anything other than a privileged straight white male, the best I can do is to listen to people who are not and try to understand things from their perspective as best as possible. And when I read through a lot of the posts that y'all make on here regarding protest votes or non-voting, or not seeing enough differences between Trump and Biden or Trump and historical GOP, my inclination is to think how outraged I would be if I were a person of color, female, LGBTQ, or any of the other countless groups that have been marginalized and denigrated by Trump and his administration. This all just reeks of privilege.
I'd love to hear the thoughts of anyone out there who isn't a straight white male on how they view the concept of protest votes or not voting in this coming election. Maybe I'm wrong about this, and if so, I'd love to learn more.
Biden might not be my ideal candidate, but there is no way I would skip voting for him in November. Trump has already done so much to hurt the LGBTQ community, and 4 more years could see us losing the right to marry (something Biden was one of the first big supports of).

Yeah, man. None of us have ever went into detail on any of these subjects at all. I've been reading about this stuff for decades but I'm sure it's my white privilege that has me pessimistic about the hell we are heading towards. No way we have informed opinions and a reason to be very pessimistic.
Who exactly do you think is taking the brunt of global warming at this very moment? Do you think the term "environmental racism" has any bearing on the future? How about ecofacism? Who's gonna be disproportionately targeted by those folks? The climate crisis will, of course, effect us all but people of color already our at greater risk globally. It's not white folks dying of floods and heat strokes in central Asia right now. It's not white people getting buried in mudslides in Central America. You wanna get into the continuation of American Imperialism and who it affects?
So when I say it makes no difference it's because propping up the current system won't fix any of the massive problems we have. A "liberal" party that bends over backwards to elect a fucking fossil who's been on the wrong side of most major issues gives me zero encouragement. So on a long enough timeline we are all getting fucked. When we hit authoritarianism it will be people of color getting it the worse. That's not even in question. I feel 100% justified in saying that it makes no difference. That's not the same thing as saying Trump isn't worse or Biden won't make incremental improvements. The latter is obviously preferable. But the courts won't mean anything after society breaks down. At the end of the day, if we aren't making changes to combat the existential problems heading our way those improvements will be minuscule compared to the worldwide pain and suffering that's potentially coming.
On a side note, you obliviously don't know much about the history of the GOP.

Female. And I’m bitterly conflicted by Biden’s past with regards to the my sex. It’s basically which candidate is the lesser of the two pervs. But I despise Trump with every fiber of my being, and in honesty don’t think we can survive four more years. I’ve also done the protest vote with Nader. That didn’t work out too well. That being said, I’m not going to dump on anyone that chooses to skip this one.
And on that note, Trump just commuted Roger Stones sentence. What a piece of shit.

When you consider Biden's record from a lens of racial justice it's actually hilarious to try and pull some white privilege vote shaming on people. Remember when he signed off on a war that killed close to a million Muslims? Crime bill? War on drugs? Can't hold that against him or your privilege will show.
Somebody wanna tell me I must have issues with women if I don't want to support him?
Like I'm cool with people voting for him. I get that it's the best of our shitty options. I'm still going to tell the truth as I see it. It fucking sucks and things aren't going to get better.
the sub should've just given up when the pod shunned them
Unrelated, but I find it fucking hilarious when a request for help with MLA pops up on r/CitationsNeeded
My understanding is none of them even like it. Or they just sit and bitch about it.
How is r/citationsneeded? I feel like I've found my way there once or twice from Google but haven't really read around. Reddit sucks but there are still some good boards there if you look around.

Biden is an opportunist, obv. It took him until 2012 to adopt such a position ? In 1996, he voted for the Defense of Marriage Act, blocking federal recognition of same-sex marriages. It gets worse and worse as you go back from there. Biden supports the LGBTQ community when there is something in it for him. A follower and NOT a leader. Beholden. Expect nothing from him except to be the lesser of two evils. The complicits in the DNC have made a career of it. Sheep in wolves' clothing. A well engrained patsy in the Clinton/Obama syndicate. Expect one step forward, two back.

He might be opportunistic, but by voicing his support, he still helped shift many opinions on the issue. I don’t agree with Biden on most issues, but he’s clearly willing to change his opinion with enough social pressure. That’s more than we could ever hope for from The Cheeto.
Respectfully, I think "bickering" to pressure the agenda of our default choice is the only option short of destroying the DNC post November. Reactionary politics gets us nowhere. Apparently progress has been made on pressuring the Democratic platform by Bernie and Co. We squandered our whole primary season which would have otherwise been used as it was intended, to vett our candidate, pledging to be "blue without a clue" out of the fear of losing. This idea that we should be unified while have a default lame duck corporate stooge complicit puppet shoved down our throat is only beneficial to our overlords. We SHOULD be vocally debating the direction we want this nominee to take. Anyone still on the fence will not be swayed by our quiet allegiance.
But yeah, boo abuse of presidential power and unethical creeps beyond accountability.
edited to clarify that I don't aim to nitpick with seemingly minor semantics, but only wanted to highlight words like bickering and infighting, etc being planted into our dialogue with less than benign long term consequences.

I was just pointing out that I was stepping into an active discussion/debate with some other breaking news. There was nothing at all about telling people not to "pressure the agenda" or that we should all be "unified" or whatever. I've made clear that I supported and am disappointed about Bernie not being the nominee. He's clearly pushed progressive policies further than i've seen in any other time in my life. Biden is what I have to live with.

Check my edit as I reread and anticipated this response. And don't call me Francis !!!!!!
Sorry for the snark about "boo abuse of power". Just hoping to point out that "bickering" at this point, is more useful than reacting to something we can do little about.
Remember when Obama won and W, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Condi, etc. all got prosecuted for lying to the American people, engineering two wars that killed hundreds of thousands, and illegally torturing people?
I can only hope Roger Stone gets the same rude awakening come November. #resist
The MSM really did a number convincing white liberals that anyone who recognizes that there are problems universal to all mankind (we in the socialism biz call this "solidarity") is actually an incorrigible racist. So much so that one white man feels comfortable telling another to check his privilege on behalf of ethic minority people, women, gay people and trans people, some of which are active in the thread and have had these talks with the Privileged Climate Change Acknowledgers for years now.
SupeЯfuЯЯyanimal when you talk about “propping up the current system” to what extent do you mean? Do you mean full out revolution, and forcing in a new government? Or do you mean an extreme shift within the country’s current political system? I know/thought you worked hard to get Bernie nominated, so I figure you had some hope that change can come through our current system. Did you lose it because of what happened in the Primaries?
Also, does Bernie’s unwavering support of Biden and determination to work with him and get him elected have any impact on your feelings? Obviously, I understand it was never about Bernie, but he obviously feels that Biden can be a bridge to the kind of political revolution he ran his campaign on. Do you think Sanders is just being naive?

I just did that too! Hope you voted for Adam Lambert. I've know him for years (since Jr. High) and is good people.
I only voted presidential primary because I wanted to gtfo of there as quickly as possible. Poll workers had some hazmet gowns on and face shields. I triple-masked, brought my own pen to sign the voting book, and they gave me a glove to wear into the booth. But it was indoors with a bunch of other mfers in there. I was willing to risk my health to vote for Bernie, but I otherwise got out as quickly as possible. I'll tell my 2 other family members in Orleans Parish to vote for him though. Was that judge or central committee or what?

. Democratic Central committee.
As always there was only 3 people voting when I went. More workers than voters. All in PPE great from head to toe. And all the voters masks on.

Peak gaslighting. "Trump didn't say mexicans are rapists and thieves" from Fox News. Not surprised but wow.....I just don't get it any more. Easily proven quotes and facts are being completely lied about.

My mom actually posted something political today (she is a teacher and usually center-right politically). It was talking about the mental health of teachers and even referenced the president using teachers as a political pawn. This was not long after Betsy Devos' absolutely unhinged interview on CNN this morning. I wonder if the tide really has turned, similar to how the governor of Kentucky was ousted after pissing off all the teachers.

That's pretty rad. Seems like a great time to casually mention how effective a nationwide teacher's strike would be.
I’m going out to buy me a musket. Where can I get one of those? I need it to protect me from the hordes when they come protesting through my middle class neighborhood out here in the burbs.
