Someone has taken that BS White House promo video of Trump crossing over to the church and holding up that book he has never opened in his life and added appropriate audio. I'd post it, but I'm an idiot and can't seem to manage.
Go to the White House twitter feed. Not some place I usually hang out. After the promo video that makes you want to vomit your lunch, there are two that say "fixed it".
I also added my own commentary to the original. But I lack the skills.

One of them was the Russian National Anthem.
Another was the Benny Hill music, which was great.
A third I saw made it like the last scene in an ep of Veep, which was awesome.
primary elections today in dc, indiana, iowa, maryland, montana, new mexico, pennsylvania, rhode island and south dakota. all but dc and rhode island are state primaries in addition to presidential. go vote if you haven't done so by mail already!
Georgia is next week. I'm phonebanking today for it.
Fuck a black square. I'm so annoyed with facebook friends who post a blank image to act like they're doing something. Donate, share content, silence is doing zero good.

God, I loathe slacktivism - and more broadly, people who spend more time posting about a thing than actually doing that thing. It's akin to people who donate to charity just to tell others they donated to charity.
Side note: this may also be why I rarely post on social media anymore. I'm pretty much just on Facebook for the groups these days.
Sorry for multiple posts, but I just got a push notification from the Tennessean that the Republican Party is eyeing Nashville for the upcoming convention and are going to tour our city.
Guess it's time to get my hands dirty once I get mended.

Proformative action will likly save us.
To be clear, voting is great and all but we've been here many times before. Nothing much will change without the people demanding it. Not hoping some politician will just do it for us.
What party do you think approved the budget for the miltarization of cops in a lot of these cities?

edit-Marsha Blackburn thinks it's a great idea.
Between Lee and Blackburn, I should have expected this.
Cops again the agitators in Kansas City last night. Mayor and BLM leaders had a peaceful march around 8:30pm. Ended with a prayer in a usually busy intersection 1 block from my house. Cars stuck on the road were chill and honked in solidarity. 5 mins after the Mayor left around 9pm they declared unlawful protest and fired tear gas. Then they have the audacity to post pictures on twitter of what was thrown at them. To me these cops are "outside agitators" disturbing my neighborhood.

I'm not sure still what I was supposed to find, other than a vomit inducing amount of garbage.
Speaking of "outside agitators", last night dozens of cops and national guardsmen swarmed my neighborhood for over 4 hours based on an alleged """threat""" to the businesses. This action shut down a vital grocery store and CVS that serve an area very close to food deserts. I was in the area monitoring off and on from 6:30pm to 10pm and didn't see any protesters, but saw at least 3 convoys of cop cars and vans in addition to the dozens of officers milling about the square.

Slacktivism is largely why I hate actually, like, posting about stuff. I'd much rather actually do something and not parade it around than post on social media and call it a day.
Though obviously it’s better people actually get involved beyond a post I see this as a largely good thing. It makes *actual* content pop out for one and I don’t think I’ve ever seen something this overwhelming on my social media. It actually seems like in large people agree on something which is good. It normalizes the phrase “Black Lives Matter” which could literally have gotten you called a terrorist in most of MO before lol
Freedom of speech means nothing anymore apparently.
The "silent majority" was a phrase used by nixon to refer to people who weren't protesting the war in Vietnam.
In further nixonian fashion, Trump seems to be enjoying his "southern strategy" - stoking racial tension to divide the electrate to try to win over whites.
As much as I hate people doing this sorta stuff and only doing this sorta stuff when everyone else is doing it (businesses and corporations included), it's also something very powerful. It's a sign to racists that they're still a group of people that are in a extreme minority, will get looked upon when coming forward about their views and deal with the consequences because of it. It's also a sign to the less politically involved people that they should get involved, read up about it and maybe follow along (there's some social psychology in there). It creates the sort of environment where everyone is on the exact same page except for the racist people who are to scared to open up about their views as they damn should be. BUT to me, this is just the first step (like Killer Mike also said) and making sure people vote and vote for the right people is one of the things that comes after awareness.
This is interesting, no curfew or cop lineup tonight in Kansas City. Wonder if the cops will listen? I'm on my way home from work, Mill Creek Park is 2 blocks away from my house.
My family and I are having the "cops are bad" talk right now. I've gathered as much supporting documentation as I can to explain why systemic change is necessary. Fortunately, my immediate family is receptive when presented with evidence but I know that isn't the case for all of us. Regardless, I hope someone else on here finds this useful.
I've only grabbed articles and journal entries with extensive citations within the document. It'd be too crazy to post the most relevant points so I'd encourage everyone to click through so you can pick the evidence you need in any family discussions. And please add on to this with stuff that I missed!

Police Family Violence Fact Sheet Two studies have found that at least 40% of police officer families experience domestic violence, (1, 2) in contrast to 10% of families in the general population.(3) A third study of older and more experienced officers found a rate of 24% (4), indicating that domestic violence is 2-4 times more common among police families than American families in general. womenandpolicing.com/violenceFS.asp#notes

Fuck him. Two of my kids are heading downtown now to protest. I'm pretty proud that they are all as anti-racist as I am. Thing here is that we live in a majority black city with majority black police force. We are surrounded by stick-up-the-ass angry, racist cops. But the NOPD is actually pretty cool. They have enough to worry about usually that they don't just go fucking with people. Black lives indeed matter.

Does anyone have any resources on locating protests in nearby cities? I live in a college town which is much more empty now because of Covid. We have a pretty large peaceful protest/march on Saturday but it's been quiet since then. I'm sure I could just drive to the nearest larger city (~1.5 hours), but I'd be more confident if I knew something was organized

Last night there was a midnight siege on Providence. Local officials figured out there was going to be an attack on the mall and some major streets downtown. 60 something people got arrested, a cop car got burned, and a few cops had minor injuries. There wasn't even an actual protest in Providence yesterday, the whole point was to just wreck stuff and steal.
Then came rumors round two is tonight at a couple other major shopping areas in neighboring Cranston and Warwick, the second and third largest cities in RI. You'd think Trump was in town with this many cops and National Guard patrolling around both. Again, no actual protest in the Providence area today. Black Lives Matter organizers in RI are basically telling people to avoid the area, there's no actual protests until Friday. This seems like a diversion play, but who knows.
We've reached the point where people just want to burn the world down and don't even care under what pretense anymore.
The last couple weeks have had the highest number of people turn out for protests I've seen, except maybe the original Women's marches in 2017. There's people who I've never seen had a shred of interest in activism before and all of a sudden are talking Black Lives Matter and thinking about going to local actions.
