If someone was trying to persuade me to move to Europe, this would be an excellent way

My favorites that I've seen this year include Kevin Morby, Pond, Ty Segall, Sleep, Eric. B and Rakim, King Gizz, Kurt Vile, Wand.
Got NIN, Metz, and Oh Sees coming up this fall. Maybe Car Seat, BMSR, Windhand, and some others as well. I'm fucking pissed that Jesus Lizard already sold out.
1. Nine Inch Nails (Saenger NOLA Night 3) - About as good as it's going to get
2. Dead and Company (SKC NOLA) - Great show. I'm not a giant Deadhead or anything, but this was good.
3. Alice in Chains (Saenger NOLA)
4. Metallica (ACL)
5. Paul McCartney (ACL)
6. Chon (House of Blues New Orleans) - I finally got a chance to see Chon. The music at this show is probably the best I've seen yet this year. However, they had 4 bands including semi-co-headliner Polyphia. So Chon only played 1 hour which was a disappointment.
7. A Perfect Circle (Voodoo)
8. Deep Purple (MS Coast Coliseum) - Kicked all kinds of ass.
9. Umphrey's McGee (Joy Theater NOLA)
10. David Byrne @ Jazz Fest - Pretty much the same as it ever was at most other performances. But that's good enough.
Bumped 11/25/18 J.E.D.I. (Jazz Electronic Dance Improvisation) - Featuring Aaron Johnston, Marc Brownstein, Borahm Lee, Ryan Zoidis w/ special guests). This is how you do a superjam in jazz-jamtroinca. Every song was different, and it was an excellent show.
Bumped 10/30/18 - Bassnectar at Float Fest in San Marcos, Texas (Best Bassnectar set I've seen)
Bumped 9/19/18 - A Day to Remember (Buku Fest) - Nice to get some metal in an EDM fest. \m/; Isaiah Rashad (Buku Fest) - Great to finally get a chance to see him as well. A nice no bullshit approach to rap.;
HM - Tipper Journey Set, STS9 @ Backwoods (pouring rain and beautiful), RTJ @ FLoat Fest (should be higher but I've seen them so many times even though this was the best yet), Tony Allen with Kumasi Orchestra, The Residents, Tame Impala @ Float Fest, CHVRCHES @ The Joy, Thievery Corporation,

I'm gonna keep this list short
Kendrick Lamar's halftime performance at the CFP was a once in a lifetime opportunity even if it was only 15 mins
Brockhampton was phenomenal
Tyler, the Creator put on such a good show it honestly might be favorite show of all time
Anderson .Paak & the Free Nationals. Wow.
Cage the Elephant (secret show at plaza9) another once in a lifetime opportunity, I was front row for it and it was the most exciting thing at Bonnaroo for me this year imo
Nine Inch Nails took over that one spot that had been occupied by Dead & Company since February. This has been a very rock heavy year for the shows I've liked the best. I only have a couple more to see, and without Day for Night, there's nothing that has a shot of knocking the Nails out though maybe JBT can breach that Top 10. I'll update for posterity at the end of the year.
1. Nine Inch Nails (Saenger NOLA Night 3) 2. Dead and Company (SKC NOLA) 3. Alice in Chains (Saenger NOLA) 4. Metallica (ACL) 5. Paul McCartney (ACL) 6. Chon (House of Blues New Orleans) 7. A Perfect Circle* (Voodoo) 8. Deep Purple (MS Coast Coliseum) 9. Umphrey's McGee (Joy Theater NOLA) 10. David Byrne @ Jazz Fest
* Caveat is although the Tipper closing set was my #1 Voodoo set with APC being #2, I think for the year, the APC show counts.
Running decade count:
2010 Tool @ UNO 2011 Soundgarden @ Voodoo 2012 Pearl Jam @ De Luna 2013 Pearl Jam at Voodoo 2014 Lotus @ Buku 2015 Lotus @ HoB 2016 Neil Young & PotT @ Jazz Fest 2017 STS9 @ The Joy (ATC) 2018 NiN @ Saenger

i feel kind of like a dick for not thinking Byrne was a top 10 for me this year
i mean, i really enjoyed it, but idk.
Didn't get to see him but this is how I feel about the final Paul Simon show. If it hadn't been weighted with that significance it probably wouldn't even make my top 20.
Nine Inch Nails, Fox Theater, Atlanta Janelle Monáe, Tabernacle David Byrne, Shaky Knees Queens of the Stone Age, Shaky Knees The National, Shaky Knees St. Vincent, Tabernacle, Atlanta Gillian Welch, Peace Center, Greenville, SC Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Peace Center, Greenville, SC Sturgill Simpson, PNC Music Pavilion, Charlotte Pixies, Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood, Atlanta Arcade Fire, Sloss Fest Beach Slang, The Earl, Atlanta Deafheaven, 40 Watt Club, Athens, GA Paramore, Heritage Park Amphitheater, Simpsonville, SC Spoon, Buckhead Theatre, Atlanta TORRES, Shaky Knees Circa Survive, Shaky Knees Melvins, Heaven @ The Masquerade, Atlanta Reverend Horton Heat, Gottrocks, Greenville, SC Clutch, Heaven @ The Masquerade, Atlanta

Right now I’d put my favorites this year as 1. Radiohead night one philly 2. Japandroids night one of their run at boot and saddle in philly 3. Deafheaven at union transfer philly
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I'm sure there is something I'm leaving out.
Skipping bigger shows/festivals has been a awesome the past few years. Actually seeing bands I wanna see and still having money to record shop on the weekends. Gonna continue that next year, too.
