I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so mods, feel free to axe it if so, but I didn't see it anywhere else on the site, so...
For those who aren't aware, Frightened Rabbit singer, songwriter, and guitarist Scott Hutchison was confirmed dead today in an apparent suicide after having gone missing a couple of days ago. He'd long battled depression, even having the occasional public meltdown on social media, but always seemed to bounce back...until, I guess, he didn't. A lot of his music was about sadness and disappointment, and the challenge and absurdity of dealing with all that, and I can say without question that it helped me - and I know I'm not alone, here - through some really rough shit in my life. It's one of those things in which you hope that the person who's putting these thoughts and emotions out there in their art gets some sort of catharsis from the realization that what they have to say connects with what a lot of other people are thinking, feeling, and going through. I guess one of the real bastard parts of depression is that it doesn't care about that shit or discriminate between those who get the chance to see that effect they're having on the audience with whom they share in their work, and those who don't.
Anyway. I hope that, in death, Scott has found some of the peace he apparently couldn't find in life, even if those of us who were touched by what he put out into the world are left with a hole to fill. And, hey, listen, if you are dealing with mental health issues, please know that you are not alone and that there is help out there, and don't be afraid to seek it out. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, for Americans, is 1-800-273-8255.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
