The thing about marching bands is they’re cool when they have the room to walk around and do cool movements but in this set up, I think they take up way too much space and don’t leave any room for better production. Some better visuals would be worth it. Kind of disappointed by this.
I'd argue that the choreography and the use of a large marching band is the visual spectacle. Similar to the completely unique visual effect of the massive brass band coming onto Solange's stage during her shows last year.

I think you and Esteban are missing the point of Beyonce remixing half her set in the style of a HBCU marching band. They exclusively did cool movements in that style.

Also, I love imagine Esteban at Coachella 2006, Daft Punk unveils the light pyramid and puts on what is immediately recognized as a legendary best in class performance, and he’s running around complaining that they’re not doing enough live mixing.

Yeah I got that, but to me it’s just not that interesting after a while. HBCU marching bands are cool because they’re usually either only playing a short set or they play between plays during a game or something. But two hours of it and I just get kind of sick of it.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go on an overnight drunk, and in 10 days I'm going to set out to find the shark that ate my friend and destroy it. Anyone who wants to tag along is more than welcome.

I just watched the replay of Beyonce's performance last night. I must confess I never really understood all the hysteria about her. All I can say is I was wrong - WOW!!!

Lol. I try not to be hypercritical. I did get the point about the marching band parts of the show. I actually was digging all the brass they incorporated in the tracks that were played. Like I said last night, I thought the bars from Do Whatcha Wanna was really cool. Rebirth is one of my favorite bands to see, so Beyoncé showing them some love was a bonus.

I'm not that big of a Beyonce fan and that was absolutely incredible. It's deserving of the praise. My only question is, what will she do weekend two? The same thing would be great, obviously, but I just wonder if it's possible to duplicate such a legendary show without it losing some luster.

tbh I wonder if she'll bring out Nicki Minaj next week
Didn't expect Posty to bring a damn live band with him. Sad to see him performing for a dead ass crowd. I feel like there's litteraly 0% excitement whatsoever for artists. Out of 22 sets (with Post's set, 23) I've seen, the only one where ppl were really hyped was at BROCKHAMPTON's one.

Yeah, looks like the only way to rewind is on computer. I can't believe that many people were at the blackbear show and I've never even heard of em. Starting Jungle now. Also, I bet Sir Sly won over a lot of new fans from that stream.

A lot of artists have been mentioning how hot it is. Do you think maybe that and the fatigue that comes with heat has something to do with it? I’m not trying to argue and feel like you have been making a valid point about crowd participation all weekend. Seems like some of the sets maybe suffered from where they were placed - for instance Vince Staples before The Weeknd. If he had been on a hype-rap or EDM run, it probably would have been wilder. Maybe some of it is just the enormity of Coachella? I don’t so much see it as a place people go to be seen. That’s been a lingering criticism over the years, but I’m sure the majority of people go for the music and quality of production that Coachella must deliver for it to be the biggest deal in music.

Whoa! where was the Rebirth reference? I didn't catch it!

It was the last 20 minutes or so. They/She opened up a song with part of Do What You Wanna, played a few bars and came back to it later in the song.

I feel like there's a clear difference between being to tired because of the heat and standing still as some kind of tree to watch an artist/band or being on your phone even more so when you're at the first row of stages like Mainstage or Outdoor. It's straight up disrespectful to act like that when you're camping for whoever is performing later. Out of 23, I feel like there have been 5 or 6 artists/bands that shouted thet crowd out for acting like that. Vince and Tyler are probably the most clear examples. Crowd participation is a big factor in giving an artist a certain boost performing. I mean, if you're performing for people and the first 10 rows are not even dancing, singing or going crazy on the shit you play. How'd you feel and how would that set turn out. It affects the band and thus the set.
edit: I wonder if it'd make a change if the time between the sub or even the act before that, got bigger. For example, Tyler (6:55-7:45) > HAIM (8:30-9:30) > Beyoncé (11-1). Or..: There was this fest that cleared the whole mainstage for Justin Bieber last year. When the sub finished they'd close the whole stage and put it open half an hour or something before him. Same thing happend for Coldplay a few years ago.

Seeing a lot of people complain about Beyonce campers on the Coachella subreddit. Why doesn't every major festival use Bonnaroo's pit system? It seems like Coachella could really benefit from it. But I've never been to Coachella so I wouldn't really know.

the semi-ironic thing about this is that I saw people today complaining on tumblr that Beyoncé's crowd wasn't hype enough. who will ever be satisfied with kids at coachella?
