I am going to be very surprised if any festival books Kanye again any time soon. Fests make the majority of their money from sponsorships.. I don't think too many sponsors want to be associated with "slavery was a choice." But maybe I am wrong, we'll see.
I think Kanye and Kid Cudi should do their own tour first. If that tour does well, I can see festivals booking him again.

Maybe they are planning it rn and they will start touring in few months. LA will be early so they don't interfere with the radius/time clause

Probably going to be the safety booking. They had said they were touring through 2019, have played Coachella every album cycle, and who cares if they didn't move tickets this tour when your festival sells itself.
If you haven't seen Arcade Fire on this tour then it's kinda your fault, they've been everywhere. Them playing at Coachella wouldn't make much sense imo.

I don’t think anybody thinks they are first choice. I meant they’d be a safety before the killers or rhcp. I don’t know when we started thinking every headliner has to be an exclusive get though. They have a headliner who had been everywhere the year prior on pretty much every lineup since 20014 really.

Timberlake is on a full 12 month world tour.
Gambino is playing two arena dates this fall in LA and headlining ACL and Voodoo (and probably more next spring).
If Arcade Fire is the last headliner - who have played LA in multiple waves this tour (including again next month) and pretty much headlined every festival that would offer them - that would be an extremely lazy set of headliners.
I'm usually defending against "Coachella Headliner Exceptionalism" (e.g. I recognize that Coachella headliners usually have one dud and/or aren't that much special than anyone else's), but it's gotta be better than Timberlake/Gambino/Super Lazy Rock Booking.

If we are already talking about The Killers then we are in super lazy territory. I don’t know what to tell ya. If they can’t get The Smiths, REM, Metallica or some other significant reunion, then you are getting a lazy replacement. Or no rock headliner, which I’m also totally fine with.
45% chance - non-rock headliner (another rapper or pop act or SHM) 35% chance - big rock headliner (reunion, Metallica / Stones / Fleetwood) 15% chance - lazy rock headliner (Muse, Killers, AF) 5% chance - Mumford & Sons (who are neither lazy nor good, but I wouldn't write off it happening)

Who would be the last rapper/pop act?
Kanye, Chance or Frank Ocean(with new albums out), Rihanna, Maybe Minaj if album is big, but seems more like a sub idk y even though her last album numbers did better than Rihanna
I think they need to keep some of these guys for future years, thats why it would make sense to not have 3 pop/rappers imo

I randomly "This Is What You Came For" on the radio today and remembered that I can dig some Calvin Harris. "Flashback" was my jam in high school.
I feel like next year's US headliner plate will be lame and Coachella will once again receive some slight backlash on first drop. Then the rest of the lineups will release and Coachella will once again be one of the best. And thus the cycle repeats itself.

Coachella never has a truly bad undercard, always acts for everyone to see. But we still wan't to be wowed by headliners or some surprise bookings

That's a big challenge for festivals moving forward. There's only so many older, "legendary" acts like Paul McCartney, Roger Waters, Fleetwood Mac, etc. left. Coachella has already enlisted most of the better ones to headline.

They only need 1 legacy act a year imo and there are a bunch left, even though some have already headlined some time ago.
Metallic, Fleetwood, Waters, Paul, Rolling Stones, REM, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, RATM...
I don't think a band like Arctic Monkeys should headline, if its a fringe band, then just go pop/rap/edm for a larger crowd and have that band sub
Has to be a balance of legacy and current popular acts
Can't go through all these popular rappers/pop acts in just a few years
