I'm not hoping - I'm just predicting. Can't say there's a more obvious rock headliner than them and would find it hard to believe PT would go two straight years without a rock headliner.
Personally I have a much bigger problem with those undercard acts you’re tossing out than Green Day.
-The 1975 are releasing two albums including the second right before Coachella, have teased a big world tour next year, got a Best New Track on Pitchfork essentially easing them into "indie credibility status" - it's probably going to happen, guys
-Dua Lipa is a "top 9 pop female placeholder", which we've had every year for the last few
-Vampire Weekend is looking likely - lot of GV shows, not playing a lot of new material so will probably start the new album tour around Coachella next year.
-Disclosure is a "top 9 electronic/EDM" placeholder
-Alabama Shakes and Aphex are good right?
-I haven't got any inside info this year so am running on the Childish/JT assumption for now with a "rock headliner"
Where is it looking like there's potential for a much better top 9 right now?

Just because it's realistic doesn't mean it's not lame. also I don't think anyone in 2018/2019 is getting excited about Alabama Shakes subbing at a festival.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

Oh. I thought by "I have a problem with it" he meant it was wrong/unrealistic. I'd like to get more optimistic!
Also, Robyn I think would be 4th or 5th on her day, not top 9.
I've had enough Bama Shakes to last me the rest of my life. They do absolutely nothing for me and they keep moving higher and higher on lineups. I hate it.

It’s hard to say with Robyn because she’s just not that active, but she sold out a bunch of smaller sheds on her last tour and is putting out her first album in 8 years. I think there’s a rarity factor that would actually help her.
I guess my argument for Robyn basically boils down to “she’s bigger than Jamiroquai”
She was billed third on her day at Gov Ball 2016, as was Chvrches.
Chvrches was sixth on their day at Coachella that same year, so she was roughly the equivalent of a sixth billed at Coachella.
I think she'd get a slight rarity and "moving up" bump to get to 4th or 5th. I wouldn't go to the mat to argue with you, just saying she's probably not bigger than Jamiorquai making their first U.S. appearance in nearly 15 years.
So with Justin Timberlake most likely the only guarantee. I could easily see some misinformation similar to last year. Chainsmokers was foolishly debated and believed to be a headliner or sub-headliner. Sounds like the same scenario this time around with Childish Gambino.
I understand he is a headliner at ACL, but Chella headliners mostly dwarf other festivals. For instance, Halsey headlining at GOV Ball! She would be a second line name for sure at chella!
Usually they do a good job at keeping some secrets underwraps.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Rihanna coming back into the limelight for a Friday performance, followed by Justin Timberlake Saturday, and someone like Kanye West Sunday night.
I get there is no major rock headliners, but after radiohead and the non-rock headliners last year there doesn't seem to be momentum in that direction.

Gambino has been confirmed by multiple sources, IIRC. I believe Chainsmokers mainly came up from that random guy on Reddit.
